Are you loud or quiet?

I'm a relatively quiet person at home. I can walk up the stairs without stomping, I can make a drink without banging and clanging everything in sight. I can also watch TV at a volume under 1000 decibels. My partner, however, cannot. It's getting to me more and more. Do others have this issue?

Yes. I’m quiet.
DH can’t sit without puffing, eat without clanging cutlery or even breathe quietly. There have been times at the dinner table I’ve wanted to stab him with a fork.
Sometimes, if I’m tired and grumpy, I snap and tell him to stfu. Mostly I just grit my teeth and roll my eyes. DS takes after his father.

It’s probably getting to you more as you’ve been cooped up together more and not getting the breaks apart you normally get if you go out separately with friends or whatever.

DollyMixtureLulus · 15/07/2020 19:40

Very quiet. I can even sneeze silently which causes much hilarity at work.

However I'm also very very single!

iklboo · 15/07/2020 19:43

I'm quiet. I can enter a room and scare the bejesus out of DH as he won't have heard me coming. He has the TV & radio at 'the neighbours on Alpha Centauri have complained about the noise' level. Bangs the cupboards, clatters the pans. Some days it takes all my strength...

purrswhileheeats · 15/07/2020 19:43

Oh I'm quiet. Hate clattering, banging doors, stamping feet, loud voices and blaring TVs. Unnecessary noise stresses me out

TwoZeroTwoZero · 15/07/2020 19:44

I don't feel like I'm loud but dh says I am when I'm coming upstairs to bed. I talk quietly though, if I'm not angry, and don't make much noise watching TV or eating etc.

Does your dh need a hearing test?

Bubblingresentment · 15/07/2020 19:50

He might need his ears tested, good point. He does use machinery which probably doesn't help. It's getting to the point where I can't hear the TV as it is too loud if that makes sense.

Thinking about it the noise stresses me out too and makes me tense.

It's the same with my dad. If I go into his house his radio is up on top volume and I can't hear myself talk over it! He used to work as a welder in engineering factories and has 50% hearing loss. He gets hearing aids on Friday.

FireUnderpants · 15/07/2020 20:01

I’m quiet. All of my family are.

DH isn’t. He bangs and stomps, needs to be constantly listening to music. He is one of those annoying arseholes who has calls over speakerphone for no reason.

His family are all loud. They yell and shriek and talk louder and louder to be able to hear over each other. His mum and sister laugh like hyenas.

DC have unfortunately taken after his side.

EatsShootsAndRuns · 15/07/2020 20:07

Tv up on 100 all the time - there's no point in listening to music on normal levels. Hmm

Washing up so much banging and crashing and cupboard doors slamming I'm amazed the crockery makes it out in one piece.

EatsShootsAndRuns · 15/07/2020 20:09

I can and do frequently make him jump by noiselessly appearing in front of him because I move like a normal human being.

Oh and the turning over in bed and diving back down like a humpback whale.

Livpool · 15/07/2020 20:13

I'm the noisy one here 🤦🏼‍♀️

Bubblingresentment · 15/07/2020 20:14

The yawning, moaning and groaning too. He actually disturbs our baby who is upstairs sometimes. It. Drives. Me. Mad!

DHs family are all very quiet. Mine are the opposite, we're all far too noisy. DD is quiet and DS is like a bloody steam train.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 15/07/2020 20:18

I’m averagely quiet in my actions but I have a loud voice.

LouiseSP82 · 15/07/2020 20:19

I can be noisy but I dont mean to be. was likened by old housemate as 'baby elephaht' when on the stairs and landing, and am told I talk loudly..I dont mean to though, I am actually quite shy!

Witchend · 15/07/2020 20:21

I'm quiet.
Dh is the quietest in a noisy family. You should hear him on a Zoom call. I sometimes think he'd be quieter stood on top of the house with a megaphone.

Vinorosso74 · 15/07/2020 20:28

I'm quiet but have a loud sneeze!

betteliefsen · 15/07/2020 20:29

I'm quiet except when listening to music/watching tv as I'm partially deaf.

Toilenstripes · 15/07/2020 20:30

DH is so noisy. Banging, clanging, scares the crap out of the poor cat with his heavy walking, Snoring for England. He jumps out of his skin when I make a noiseless appearance behind him, or anywhere really.

Tinamou · 15/07/2020 20:31

We went on holiday with another family a few years ago. I couldn't believe how noisy they were to live with - mainly the dad and the eldest DC. Their voices seemed to be on a different volume control to the rest of us!

BestOption · 15/07/2020 20:34

I'm quiet (except when I snore Blush

DP is physically quite quiet too (light on his feet, ok with dishes:pans etc) and can be quietly spoken when he's being sweet, but he finds his job and life quite stressful and can be loud in his frustration/worry. He can also speak quite aggressively. But never AT me, but when talking about stuff.. and I find it quite draining & it makes me quite tense (not because I'm scared of him, not a bit) just because it's loud and shouty.

Let's just say his DC (moving between houses & going to school and I'm pretty much shielding) is only one reason we chose to lock down separately. At least on the phone I can turn the volume down! 🤣

I am missing him though. (Although we are 'allowed' to see each other, I'm still 'staying home' & pretty much shielding)

& yes, his whole family is loud. Does. My. Head. In.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 15/07/2020 20:36

My volume is quite loud, but when it comes to doing things around the house, I'm very quite. I don't try to be quite, I just am. My partner is also really loud. He couldn't make anymore noise if he tried. Even at 6.30 when he's getting ready for work. He pees in the toilet and I swear the neighbours must hear it. I don't know how a pee can make so much noise!

brakethree · 15/07/2020 20:37

I'm loud, very loud. I talk and walk loudly. I don't mean to and I do try to not do it as I don't like it :-(

Newbiehere123 · 15/07/2020 20:38

I'm quiet as well and will tip-toe and would use my phone light at night not to wake anyone up but DH on the other hand, is like a tornado when he enters. He is destructive. We have argued so many times because of this as we wakes up DS as soon as he enters the house. He will watch videos from Instagram stories where it literally screeches and makes me jump he also needs to have the TV on loud too. I'm really sensitive to sound and enjoy silence but DH doesn't. We are polar opposites and wondering what I did wrong to be attracted to him.

labyrinthloafer · 15/07/2020 20:39

I am an utter hypocrite as I am quite noisy but still moan at the rest of them about their noise Blush
