Do you have a guilty pleasures playlist? What's the most embarrassing song?

I'm on my own in the house and I've been singing along to the playlist that I can only play out loud when alone. Only the dog knows the depths of cheese of this playlist (and now potentially millions of MN users, but you're imaginary whereas the dog is real and quite judgemental). Grin

I guess objectively the most embarrassing is Come on Eileen, but personally I am appalled that I have Nickleback, How You Remind Me, on the list. Nickleback is worse even than Mambo No 5 and Rock Me Amadeus (American version). Grin

I think the one the kids find most embarrassing is Rose Garden Lynn Anderson. I did manage to get the cat addicted to Lionel Richie's Hello as well Blush but now DD plays that to her as well.

I have several playlists of extremely embarrassing songs 😁. Some of the biggest "gems" include:

Summer Holiday, Cliff Richard
River of Dreams, Billy Joel
The Power of Love, Jennifer Rush
Love Is All Around, Wet Wet Wet
She Moves In Her Own Way, The Kooks
Back For Good, Take That
Kung Fu Fighting, Carl Douglas

I Was Made for Lovi' You by KISS.
Forever and Ever, Amen, by Randy Travis
Paper Roses by Marie Osmond

Starmaker kids from fame
Remember that?

Oh my god I did not think there was another single person in the world who still listed to this.

Starmaker and Hi-Fidelity feature at least once a week on my playlist Grin

Yesterday once more by the carpenters

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 15/07/2020 09:24

I'm feeling better about my song choices now, while I sing along to the orangutan song from the Jungle Book I can comfort myself that at least it isn't some of these other ones. Grin

I particularly dislike Wasn't Me by Shaggy and it has weirdly appeared on the radio playlists here, I've heard it at least 4 or 5 times in the last few months and DD has started singing along to it. Of all the songs to resurrect from the past, why that one.

I'm surprised that The Chicken Song has made a few lists, it's very catchy but once it's in your head it stays for days and days until you nearly go insane from the ear worm.

Probably The Wombles classic 'Remember You're A Womble', not ashamed at all!
I add Wombling Merry Christmas in December as well. Grin

I’m quite partial to the High School Musical soundtrack!

dudsville · 15/07/2020 12:18

I've just been bobbing along to "Black & Gold" by Sam Sparro. I have a lot of songs that are just catchy pop tunes that aren't cool according to my tribe.

Didyousaynutella · 15/07/2020 12:20

A Disney accapella group called Dcappella. Love it! The also do some Christmas numbers such as last Christmas and all I want for Christmas.

Didyousaynutella · 15/07/2020 12:22

Also partial to noughties pop groups such as the sugarbabes

Toilenstripes · 15/07/2020 12:26

You haven’t heard cringe until you’ve heard the 1977 song ‘I’ve Never Been to Me’ by Charlene.

“I’ve been undressed by kings
And I’ve seen some things
That a woman ain’t s’posed to see....”

It’s almost worth a hate listen!

TheDogsMother · 15/07/2020 12:35

Hips don't Lie - Shakira. Or Wherever, whenever (with it's particularly profound lyrics) Grin

I'm old enough to have sung along to that when it was in the charts. Grin

Lots of Steps, Aqua, Vengaboys, Britney Spears and Nsync.

The late 90’s fo early 00s was the golden age of guilty pleasures!

userabcname · 15/07/2020 13:04

I have all of these on my playlist and gems such as We Are The Cheeky Girls and Blue (dabadee). No shame here!

BogRollBOGOF · 15/07/2020 13:10

Joe Dulce was keeping Ultrabox off the top off the charts the week I was born. I have no musical shame...

Star Trekkin'
Happy Talk
Video Killed the Radio Star
Ghostbusters
Wonderwall (Mike Flowers Pops)

All rubbing side by side the The Beatles, The Progidy, Take That, The Disturbed, Blur, Simple Minds, Weird Al...

I'm not discerning Grin
I flatter myself that I am eclectic.

Toilenstripes · 15/07/2020 14:06

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar 😆 Me too, and I hate that it’s an occasional ear worm when I can’t get to sleep.

reepicheepsconscience · 15/07/2020 14:14

Takes notes - I love a cheesy song.

AuntyPasta · 15/07/2020 14:29

Some perfectly good songs become cringeworthy when I’m singing them in the kitchen (with dance moves).

Whenwillow · 15/07/2020 14:34

ABBA Honey Honey

Whenwillow · 15/07/2020 14:36

Lol @BogRollBOGOF

SheWranglesRugRats · 15/07/2020 16:41
