For me, it Would depend on the reason for the trip.

Holiday. No.

Visit to dying parent. Yes.

Work trip that not going would be career suicide. Yes.

Confusedbutheyho · 13/07/2020 09:35

DS currently in Italy having a fab time in a private villa in Italy.

ginsparkles · 13/07/2020 09:35

Not a chance

We've got same dilemma. In-laws are Italian and we're due to go and stay with them mid-August. I keep changing my mind about whether to go. It sounds as if everything pretty much back to normal but I'm worried about my return flight getting cancelled or getting stuck if there's another outbreak.

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 13/07/2020 10:05

For a holiday, no. Not because of risk especially- let’s face it, we are in the U.K. where the risk is pretty high and if anything I’d imagine that the Italians don’t want us to visit them- but because I don’t trust this government to not turn on a sixpence and suddenly close the borders with no warning or say everyone who comes back needs to quarantine for three months in a designated compound in West Sussex. Unlikely yes, but they don’t know what the fuck they’re doing and aren’t likely to start knowing soon. I’d take the risk to see a dying relative but not just for a jolly.

Forgetaboutme · 13/07/2020 10:15

I flew last week to a different country but also staying with family. The airport was easy to social distance and our flight was half empty and therefore also no issues on that. I was extremely nervous before hand but I'm here now and glad I went for it.

Lardlizard · 13/07/2020 12:47

Forget about me good to hear from someone that’s done it, i bet it feels good to a hev got out the U.K. for a bit

lifestooshort123 · 13/07/2020 12:52

Yes.

oakwood13 · 13/07/2020 13:07

Yes I would. More risk of Covid 19 here now.

nancy75 · 13/07/2020 13:12

We were supposed to be going to Florence, Rome & Venice in a couple of weeks time - we have cancelled. I’m not so worried about catching the virus, more that we didn’t know if everything we want to see would be open & I don’t want to be walking round museums all day in a mask & worrying about social distancing.

Lardlizard · 13/07/2020 13:18

Nancy who were you booked with ? Was it a package deal or just flights?

OP posts:
timeforawine · 13/07/2020 13:21

Yep

totallyyesno · 13/07/2020 13:22

Where are you going? I've just been on holiday in Italy but without air travel. Are you worried about the flight or the destination?

okiedokieme · 13/07/2020 13:24

I would but I'm pretty laid back about it all having had c19 in March (my hay fever is far worse) if I had a preexisting condition or vulnerable relatives I might think differently

Lardlizard · 13/07/2020 13:24

South Italy, well it more we just don’t know what’s going on really it’s hard to keep up with it all and what you read online or in the news how my bid it sensationalised etc

OP posts:
Lardlizard · 13/07/2020 13:24

Much of it

nancy75 · 13/07/2020 13:26

It was easyjet flights & hotels/ Airbnb that we’d booked ourself. I’ve changed the flights & luckily all of the accommodation was able to be cancelled.

totallyyesno · 13/07/2020 13:26

Is it a beach holiday? In general you don't have to wear a mask outside, only indoors.

BoogleMcGroogle · 13/07/2020 13:28

I'd absolutely go. We are off to France soon and I can't wait.

FuckyNel · 13/07/2020 13:29

Yep I’m off to Rome mid August

Pluckedpencil · 13/07/2020 13:30

I live in Italy and I say come over. Things are almost back to normal here, which feels great. The only thing you'll note is masks inside and in crowded outdoor places like markets. No masks in the beach except in bars. I'd be very much wearing my mask carefully on the plane, maybe even two and washing hands and not eating. The border closure will be a non issue. You have a return flight that they won't cancel as it will be repatriation.

BarkandCheese · 13/07/2020 13:30

I probably would. I’m not overly concerned about catching covid and I’m not clinically vulnerable so the travel part of it wouldn’t bother me. I’d be more concerned about what would actually be open when I got there and the risk of having to quarantine when I got back.
