If you were due to fly to Italy in a couple of weeks and your flight isn’t cancelled would you go ?

Yes or no ?

Even theme parks are open, swimming pools open, restaurants open. In two weeks it will be busy but not as bad as the two middle weeks of August when everyone in Italy is on an enforced holiday.

DappledThings · 13/07/2020 13:36

If things are nearly all back to normal so I could have a proper holiday and visit all the museums and restaurants I want to with ease then yes. If places are still restricted to the number of people in them or reduced hours or I'd have to faff about with social distancing and face masks then no, that wouldn't be any fun.

I think you have to wear masks just about everywhere in Europe @dappledthings! (Love the username!)

Aposterhasnoname · 13/07/2020 13:44

I’d go in a heartbeat. We’ll be booking a holiday for the last week in July this weekend.

safariboot · 13/07/2020 13:45

I would not fly.

If it was safe to sit in a plane for several hours crammed in like sardines, we wouldn't still need social distancing in shops, cafes, cinemas, and so on. But we do. So I conclude that flying is not safe, and the only reason planes don't have social distancing is the airlines cried that they couldn't make money from mostly empty planes.

If the value of the accommodation or whatever was high enough, I would consider driving or perhaps taking a train.

LongPauseNoReply · 13/07/2020 13:47

Yes. Was there 2 weeks ago and everything is back to normal. Everyone is wearing masks and social distancing is being adhered to ( which is a miracle in Italy!!)

Go and enjoy your holiday.

TimeForLunch · 13/07/2020 13:52

Yes. I flew out to Portugal a few days ago and it's been lovely. The airport and flight were quieter than usual although not deserted by any means. I think the situation here is similar to Italy in that masks are worn in indoor spaces but not once seated at a table in a restaurant.

Forgetaboutme · 14/07/2020 08:35

When I flew (family of four) we had a row to ourselves so two sat on one side and two the other so we were away from aisles. We had people behind us on one side but not the other. No one in front. Certainly didn't feel trapped in like sardines.

Why would a train be safer than a plane? Could still end up beside people and the air filters are much better on planes.

If you decide to fly try prebooking your seats and pick them last moment and you can get a good idea of where is free to sit with less people around.

sonjadog · 14/07/2020 10:26

I think it depends on where you are going and what you are planning to do. I wouldn't write it off completely, but I think staying somewhere rural and pottering about the local area would be more tempting than traveling around visiting urban areas right now.

Awrite · 14/07/2020 10:29

Yes, I would.

My daughter's friend is there right now having a great time.

Spied · 14/07/2020 10:32

I'd not be going.

SebandAlice · 14/07/2020 10:33

Yes I would

StarlightLady · 14/07/2020 11:34

I would keep an eye on what transpires and decide nearer the time.

noraclavicle · 15/07/2020 23:33

@GreyGardens88 will raise a glass to you on Como! Off next Thursday, dementors be damned Wine

Margotshypotheticaldog · 15/07/2020 23:40

I wouldn't go. The virus has not gone away, but there is space for you in ICU should you need it. For now.

carovna · 16/07/2020 03:07

I'd go...not prepared to put my life on hold for god knows how long. It might go on for years at this rate.

Life's too short!

whereistherum · 16/07/2020 03:58

My issue would be the flight not the place

HathorX · 16/07/2020 04:02

No

MrsTerryPratchett · 16/07/2020 04:12

dementors be damned

This kind of childish, reductive name-calling really annoys me. I've just admitted to myself that I won't be seeing my parents for probably a year. I've also just cancelled my holiday. Because I believe it's irresponsible to travel from areas of high infection rates to low and vice versa. It's not because I'm a joy-sucking unhuman being, but because I'm nice.

UK to Italy is probably fine because of similar infection rates. But calling people who assess their risk differently 'dementors' is a dick move.

I hoped we'd moved on and learned our lesson from Brexit, reducing people to stereotypes. Clearly not.

chaoticisatroll55 · 16/07/2020 05:11

Nah. Don't fancy coming into contact with tons of people at an airport and on a plane. You can't assume a mask will offer protection if some guy is coughing a way for hours. Even in hospital masks get changed frequently and the masks we wear aren't as good.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 16/07/2020 05:16

Yes I would

Literallynoidea · 16/07/2020 05:36

Yes

Anotherdayanothernight · 16/07/2020 06:01

Piggywaspushed · 16/07/2020 06:08
