Help!! It’s my nieces 30th birthday today. What can I buy at such short notice?

I didn’t realise it was her thirtieth birthday. I thought she was twenty nine.
I’d got her a normal birthday card, (not realising obviously) and have some money (she can transfer the money into her bank account), but I need something else.
Flowers were another option, but dh thinks it’ll look like a ‘oops I’d forgotten’ present.
We were (are) planning to see her later, but no concrete plans were/have been made.
I could kill my sister for not warning us in advance, but we should have realised ourselves.
So, please please please help me.

Do you have a printer at home? If so i would look on those experience type websites.

keiratwiceknightly · 12/07/2020 08:39

Cocktail making experience?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 12/07/2020 08:40

A beautiful bunch of flowers- not from a supermarket but a florist with a bottle of champagne ?

Voucher for something that is reopening now - nails, or bar/restaurant?

itisntfriday1223555 · 12/07/2020 08:40

I’d go for a bottle of champers and a card with £ in. And give more than you’d normally give as it’s a special birthday. I would have been v happy with that when i turned 30!

Camomila · 12/07/2020 08:40

30 tiny things! As long as it's actual useful stuff and not tat.
I did this for my best mate. Lip balms, nice socks, tea bags, favourite snacks.
All could be gotten from a large supermarket.

30 tiny things! As long as it's actual useful stuff and not tat nice idea but 30 things on short notice
Is a lot

BikeRunSki · 12/07/2020 08:44

Red letter day type experience.

Mrsjayy · 12/07/2020 08:45

Some cash and a bottle of fizz will probably go down well

wowfudge · 12/07/2020 08:45

If you're giving her money then flowers or a bottle of champagne would be great.

CarnageAtTheGardenCentre · 12/07/2020 08:46

Thanks for the ideas, yes, champagne is a great idea.

A trip to Tesco is my first port of call.

Are nail places open yet?

Sourcing 30 things today without resourcing to impersonal tat is quite an ask! I'd definitely go for some nice flowers and a bottle of good champagne.

CarnageAtTheGardenCentre · 12/07/2020 08:55

Yes, I think I’ll struggle with finding thirty things at short notice, but the thought was there. At least I’ll have plenty of time to do that for her fortieth 😂. Good idea though, thank you @Camomila.

Mrsjayy · 12/07/2020 08:59

Depends where you live if nail places are opened !

Bumpinthenight · 12/07/2020 09:11

Nail places can open in England from tomorrow, but it does depend on the individual place as to whether they are opening or not.

Areyouactuallyseriousrightnow · 12/07/2020 09:12

Depends on budget, if you can get to a department store then perfume, earrings, floaty scarf, designer purse or cool handbag/clutch would all be lovely special 30th gifts imo.

GreyishDays · 12/07/2020 09:14

I don’t think flowers suggest you’d forgotten?

CarnageAtTheGardenCentre · 12/07/2020 09:15

Hi, just checked and they are open from tomorrow.
I think that idea is out as her birthday is today anyway.
Still champagne and money it is.

Maybe chocolates depending on price of champagne, or Prosecco.

Do Tesco sell those helium balloons?

@GreyishDays, that was from Dh about the flowers looking like a ‘forgotten‘ gift, but that’s men for you 😁😁.

He obviously never forgets me then, because he doesn’t buy me any 😂.

If she's got her own place then a plant for her garden is thoughtful and a bit more permanent than flowers. I bought my MIL a beautiful rose bush for her 60th which she loved and still enjoys every summer when it flowers.

sashh · 12/07/2020 09:27

3 bottles of 10 year old whisky, or similar, wines that up to 30.

istheresomethingwrongwithme · 12/07/2020 09:30

Honestly don't panic, if my aunt gave me some money in a card and a really nice bottle or champagne and/or a really nice bunch of flowers, I'd be delighted with that and wouldn't at all have thought she'd forgotten!

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 12/07/2020 09:33

My 30th was the day after the London bombings so absolutely nothing happened!! I survived and just put it down to life! My
Mums 70th Birthday was this April and again nothing could happen so we are postponing it to next year.

To be honest some money and a card would be a better option than something that might have to be cancelled.

CarnageAtTheGardenCentre · 12/07/2020 10:02

I wasn’t panicking until I realised she was thirty 😁😁.

I would have given her a card and money on a normal birthday,
but she is a single parent with a very lively two year old and has had a difficult time of late, so some extra things will be nice for her 🙂.
A rose plant sounds a good idea.
