Piles - how to get rid of them

pinky987 · 10/07/2020 22:44

I’ve had piles playing up now for a couple of weeks, they are feeling sore and keeping me awake at night etc.

When I have had them before they have just gone away on their own but they are not this time.

Any advice on how to get rid, which is the best cream etc?

Anusol cream
drink plenty of fluids and take pain killers if very painful.

Mischance · 10/07/2020 22:52

Never get constipated!!

soasnottoappeargreedy · 10/07/2020 22:56

The suppositaries work well.

waiting4arainbow · 10/07/2020 22:59

Ice helps them shrink and numbs them for a while to give you some relief

TheMurk · 10/07/2020 22:59

The anusol suppositories and the cream... the combo worked for me.

Sammysquiz · 10/07/2020 23:04

You have my sympathies, I’m prone to them too. Got them when I was pregnant (9 years ago!) and they still keep reappearing. I find Anusol cream is the best one. Do everything you can to avoid constipation - drink loads of water, and eat lots of fruit & veg.

TheLovelyOtherDinosaur · 10/07/2020 23:09

The only thing that settled my piles down was to use a stool (like a children’s bathroom stool) to put my feet on when using the toilet- particularly to pass a stool. I know it sounds daft and like it couldn’t possibly work but it did. I had had piles before which went on their own but they just weren’t going this last time. It was really getting me down. I was in so much pain and using suppositories/ creams/ painkillers just weren’t working. I even went to the GP as it was bothering me so much. She just said that they would settle down eventually but it had been over 3 weeks in constant pain. Anyway I looked on the internet for advice and they only thing I hadn’t tried was the stool thing so I gave it a go. Within a few days the pain had settled down dramatically and although I get a bit of soreness now and then, they’ve not come back since and so I continue to use the stool daily

pinky987 · 10/07/2020 23:17

Thanks for all the tips.

I’m not constipated at all I am the opposite. I have ibs and I think what brought them on was from having to go to the toilet so often but they are really uncomfortable now.

@TheLovelyOtherDinosaur Thanks, I’ve not heard of a stool. I have a little step stool so I will see if that is the right height but it may be to high.

Witch hazel, ice

FredaFox · 11/07/2020 05:26

Reading with interest as just got them for the second time this year
I’ll try the stool trick

HighInTheHills · 11/07/2020 07:59

Re the putting your feet on a stool trick, you want your knees as high as possible really, so your body is as near to the shape/position it would be if you were squatting on the ground to go to the loo.

This position 'straightens' the 'bend' in your rectum that sitting on a western toilet creates. Biologically humans are designed to defecate whilst squatting.

Have a google for a "squatty potty" if you want something exactly, but a children's step stool or one of those cheap folding plastic step stools you can buy in supermarket/b&m does the trick.

Am currently 36wks pg with dc3 and it's the only way I can go to the loo without pain, baby is putting far too much pressure on my pelvic floor otherwise!

pinky987 · 11/07/2020 20:39

@FredaFox I’d you don’t mind me asking. Can you feel yours constantly throughout the day as I can and it makes me permanently feel like I need a toilet and it’s driving me crazy.

I really would urge you to see your GP. You may need them banded or some other treatment - why suffer?
If you're feeling embarrassed, please remember they won't bat an eyelid.

pinky987 · 11/07/2020 20:59

@mineofuselessinformation thank you but I went to the gp on Wednesday and he just said to use wet wipes and that was it.

mineofuselessinformation · 11/07/2020 22:05

Did the doctor examine you?
Either way, I'd make an appointment to see another GP and say how badly it's impacting your life.
Wet wipes - ffs! That's not going to help resolve the problem is it?
Feeling exasperated on your behalf.

Sorry for double post. Internet always plays up when I am in the garden!

This is sound advice. People in third world countries squat to go to the loo and there is a good reason for this. When you use a stool you are in a better position to push the stools out without having to strain too much
Postmanbear · 11/07/2020 22:12

I had terrible piles when pregnant. Go back to your GP and ask for stronger prescription drugs. They work so much better.

Postmanbear · 11/07/2020 22:14

I had Scheriproct and when I had some that were thrombosed (pain like you want to die) I got even stronger suppositories

Centaurpede · 11/07/2020 22:15

Get the creams or suppositories with steroids in them!

Longdistance · 11/07/2020 22:17

I had clusters after of. They were throbbing. I was advised creams, high fibre diet etc. The best treatment was ice to shrink the piles. Put ice in a small sandwich bag and leave until unbearable, then rest, back again and so forth. I also found The anti inflammatory diclofenac really helpful, it seemed to shrink them.
They’re horrid. Hope they go soon.

pinky987 · 11/07/2020 22:35

Thanks all, I’ll try these tips and call the gp again. @mineofuselessinformation no the gp didn’t examine me and dismissed them quite quickly with the wet wipe comment.

Bumping this as I have got one after a few medical procedures! Can anything be done to totally remove it and make it go away?
