How do you wake up full of energy and ready for the day?

If you're one of those people who wake up full of energy, how do you do it? What's your secret?
I've had a good nights sleep, but I've no energy to get up and I swear every bone in my body aches.

Who knows what the answer is? When I have 5 hours sleep (average) I wake up feeling shitty, tired and achey.
When I've had 8 hours sleep (rare, but last last night slept from 10pm to 5.30am) and I still woke up feeling shitty, tired and achey. Just with puffy eyes too!

Couldn't tell you the last time I woke up and felt ready to take on the world!

Watching with interest!!

Could be your mattress

This. I hobble around for the first 30 mins of getting up, the mattress is far too soft and isn't supporting my body.

16/8 and a low sugar diet. Drink plenty of water get the right mattress and always sleep with a window open

I used to be a ‘snooze button’ person. Pressing snooze until the very last moment that I needed to get up, waking up still exhausted.

The thing that changed it for me weirdly was diet. I cleaned up my diet a few years ago, so no junk at all, no processed food, no refined sugar or carbohydrates.

The change to my sleep was almost instant. I had a week of intense dreams, really full on dream stuff. Then ever since then, I have refreshing sleep and wake up before the alsrm and feel actually refreshed.

I’d never thought what I eat could make such a difference but hearing other people talk, it seems a very common result of cutting out the crap.

Could be mattress, or could be screens before bed.

I sleep on a crap mattress but I've noticed that when I put the screens away a few hours before bed than I feel refreshed waking up the next morning.

Window open, comfortable pillow and duvet not too thick or thin, a shower and reading for half an hour before I go to sleep works for me.

I never do I have sleep apnoea and covid put paid to getting a CPAP machine which I really need. I wake up repeatedly sorting and struggling to breath - good think I live alone.
I never eat my main meal late that will keep me awake all night.
I have breakfast on my way to work in the car (not cereal obviously) then my main meal at lunchtime and never eat after 5.
i have a gastric band and eating after 5 means pain all night as well as the snoring.

Not drinking changed this for me. Also HRT. I can't unpick which of them was the key to this because I made both changes at more or less the same time.

You can’t totally ‘give up carbohydrate’ as they are naturally in vegetables. But yes, I don’t eat refined carbohydrates, so refined flour is included in that.

I don’t see it as ‘giving up’ as that implies it was offering something valuable to my life. I see it as ‘cutting out’ something that didn’t add value to my life, including my sleep

I need a lot of sleep. I often struggle to get back to sleep in the morning if I wake early. The days I feel good are when I've gone to bed early for a few nights and slept 9.30-6.30. Also I spring out of bed quicker if I have something interesting planned.

The information about the diet is interesting. I rarely drink anything, as more than half a glass in the evening impacts on my sleep. We eat our evening meal early well before bed. If we have takeaway the salt makes me thirsty and if I drink too much I need the loo more in the night. I could do with cutting down refined sugar but that's my big vice!

Very recently I've gone on HRT and feel so much more alert in the mornings. I wouldn't say I was sleeping badly before, but I definitely feel more energetic. Also all those little nagging aches and pains on getting up have gone. I swear hormones affect everything, not just the obvious stuff!
I also do 16:8 and try not to eat too much crap as I'd get really bad food hangovers.

half an hour on the balkony - starring into space holding my cuppa.

after that I am ready for anything!

but other than that, go to bed at a decent time (I need at least 7 hours in bed to be well), no caffeine after lunch time. dinner at least a couple of hour before bed.

Before I had kids (they’re still young so waking in the night currently) I used to go to bed at 10/10.30, eat a a mainly healthy diet with some treats and exercise at least 3 times a week and I used to wake up at 6.30am full of energy.
Stress was the biggest impact on that for me at the time; when I was unhappy at work or stressed I used to wake up tired even after a good nights sleep.

I need some quiet time like reading in bed for an hour before bed.
I also need to go to bed early. I ll never feel refreshed if I go to bad after 11pm

For me, it totally depends on when I'm woken up in my sleep cycle. I can have 4 hours sleep and be woken up at the right stage and feel ready to go and full of energy. I can also have 8 hours sleep, be woken up at the wrong time and feel like I'm wading through treacle. Unfortunately my baby does not respect my sleep cycles hugely!

For me, this is what works:

Dark, cool bedroom - ideally with an open window and door, plus the fan going for white noise.
No caffeine after about 4pm. Just things like water, non-caffeinated soft drinks or green tea.
Following a routine before bed - feed cats, let dog out, wash any remaining dishes, tidy around downstairs, wash face, brush teeth, upto bed.
Get up when the alarm goes. Lying around in bed always makes me feel ten times worse.
Set coffee machine so that I come downstairs to hot coffee and just have to pour it into the mug 😂

Magnesium and vitamin D. A low sugar diet with little processed food. Intermittent fasting 16:8. Full of energy all day now.

When it was ridiculously hot the other week I left the fan on and slept so well. I found the noise very soothing!

Could be lack of certain vitamins that you're body is low on do you take any vitamin supplements? Have you had your iron levels checked? I was always low on energy and lethargic and it was because my iron levels were low as well as vitamin D.

I'm not so bad now still feel tired but that could be due to having two toddlers to run round after 😂

A decent amount of sleep (at least 8 hours)

Get up as soon as the alarm goes off and straight in the shower. At most I allow myself one "snooze"

A daily Berocca tablet. Lots of people deride it as quackery but it genuinely makes a difference to me.

It helps so much! It also works to help drown out DH's snoring Grin
