Saucepans you love

I have had a set of Salter non-stick saucepans for about ten years, and honestly they're dreadful. The non-stick lining is peeling off and I worry about how safe they are.

I am thinking about replacing the lot, possibly with something that is stainless steel as we don't really need non-stick.

It MUST go in the dishwasher, whatever we get. It must last, especially if it's an expensive set. I don't want to be replacing again in another couple of years.

Any recommendations please?

Have a look at Procook. I have a non stick set from there I like (fairly new so can’t comment on the non stick coating durability). They seem to be very good value for the quality.

Any stainless steel pan is going to last far better than any non stick option, as there is no coating to wear off. But, you will need to get used to pre soaking any stuck on bits before dishwashing, and also to food sticking more while cooking.

Another vote for the Judge Vista range, nice and tall and beautifully shiny.

We have Le Creuset stainless steel saucepans. They aren’t particularly heavy and can go in the dishwasher. I wouldn’t bother with non- stick.

I got a set of stainless steel from John Lewis about a decade ago with handles to match - no plastic (£70 ish in the sale from memory) and they get used every day, go in the dishwasher and look as good as new!

Shmithecat2 · 07/07/2020 20:05

Analon are fantastic.

Shmithecat2 · 07/07/2020 20:08

Although, I picked up a roasting tray and frying pan in Asda the other day, a brand called NeverStick. They're so great, I'm considering buy the pan set.

KenzoBaby · 07/07/2020 20:37

I absolutely love my Lakeland lidded woks!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/07/2020 20:42

I have these, plus one smaller, matching saucepan from the Pro Cook range - far and away the best pans I've ever used: www.procook.co.uk/product/gourmet-steel-saucepans-set-of-3

For frying I prefer a non stick pan, so buy something cheaper and chuck them - the coating never lasts, so I find little point in getting anything better

Another vote for Judge Vista, they are excellent.

Our set of 4 Circulon saucepans + wok have been going strong for 21 years so far and are still in excellent condition.

I was coming here to say these too! Cheap, but sturdy and brilliant.

My Circulon are approaching 30 years and despite initially cringing at the cost of them, they have really lasted

I reckon I'll die before they do!

Shmithecat2 · 07/07/2020 21:12

@Juiceey I've just moved house and was shopping for a roast dinner when I realised I didn't have a roasting dish, so grabbed one off the shelf not thinking too much about it other than 'if its crap, I'll just bin it afterwards'. They're so good! I still cook with fat/oils though 😂

H1978 · 07/07/2020 21:13

I’ve read mixed reviews on Scouville Pans but I got a few pans recently on sale in Asda and they’re amazing and live up to the non stick claim. Not dishwasher safe but really easy to wash.

Also have a pan from ikea, the one with the glass lid, and it’s brilliant, dishwasher safe and oven proof too.

Shmithecat2 · 07/07/2020 21:16

@H1978 the Scoville NeverStick are 100% dishwasher safe.

JOhn Lewis classic Stainless steel. Almost 27 years on and still look really good. www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-classic-stainless-steel-lidded-saucepan/p63868

Hmm - so it looks like it's a toss up between Judge and Stellar - thank you for those recommendations as I hadn't heard of either.

I was tempted by the Asda cookware (not least because I've got a delivery booked for tomorrow!) but was a bit put off by the non-stick element as in my experience it always ends up peeling, and I'm worried about the chemicals that go into the food. (Also, selfishly, I see a lot of people bought it at 50% off so I'm loathe to pay full price!)

So Judge Vista or Stellar then - off to do some research!

I also have Stellar stainless steel pans, they have been going strong for over 20 years and are brilliant pans. They have the odd dent and one or two have been boiled dry but they still look good. I have the set with stainless steel lids and handles and the handles don't get particularly hot, I can lift them with bare hands

Popjam · 08/07/2020 00:12

Stellar definitely. Go in the dishwasher every day here and still perfect after 15 years.

The saucepan handles don't get hot but the lid handles do...I have a silicone mitt to lift the lids with. Plastic lids don't keep or aren't dishwasher proof in this house but stellar lids do, worth the inconvenience of the mit

Peckhampalace · 08/07/2020 00:25

Tefal ingenio with detachable handles are great for the dishwasher/fridge/fitting in cupboards. We have a wok+ set of pans. A year old and not a mark on them yet.

safariboot · 08/07/2020 00:46

Another to say stainless steel lasts way better than non-stick. The coating can't peel off if there's no coating to peel off! We got a Prestige set two or three decades ago and they're still going strong, though they're showing signs of pitting on the edge of the base which I think is caused by the dishwasher. But inside where the food goes is good as new. I think they're not induction compatible, but nowadays I bet most good stainless pans are.

We have a non-stick milk pan and frying pan too for the recipes that want it.

Nat6999 · 08/07/2020 00:56

I'm currently buying the hard anodized pans one by one. They are non stick inside & out, I have done scrambled eggs in one & it only needed rinsing under the tap to come completely clean. They are a bit heavier than ordinary pans, but look brand new without scrubbing, I'm buying mine from Morrison's.

Belindabelle · 08/07/2020 03:57

Stellar 7000. I got mine from Scott’s of Stow. Handles don’t get hot.

Belindabelle · 08/07/2020 04:12

Sorry it was Harts of Stur I got them from.

summerfish · 08/07/2020 11:03

I have ordered the Stellar 7000 pans! I will keep you posted.
