Saucepans you love

I have had a set of Salter non-stick saucepans for about ten years, and honestly they're dreadful. The non-stick lining is peeling off and I worry about how safe they are.

I am thinking about replacing the lot, possibly with something that is stainless steel as we don't really need non-stick.

It MUST go in the dishwasher, whatever we get. It must last, especially if it's an expensive set. I don't want to be replacing again in another couple of years.

Any recommendations please?

I needed induction suitable pans, and ended up with a Le Creuset non stick set from JL (still on sale). They were very expensive (I had some vouchers to put towards them which lessened the pain), but I've had them now 5/6 years with no sign of wear. They're quite heavy, something to consider.

They can go in the dishwasher, but I don't, they take up too much space, I don't want to accelerate any damage and am happy hand washing them.

We got some “Green Oan”

We got some “Green Pan” pans from John Lewis last year and they are amazing. Ceramic nonstick, sticky stuff just lifts out!

We’ve got Judge Vista ones perfect. Measure marks inside too

ExtremelyBoldSquirrels · 07/07/2020 13:33

I have lots of stainless steel Ikea pans. They’re really good. And not especially expensive either.

Some of them are nearly 20 years old and look like they’re new.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 07/07/2020 13:58

We got Stellar stainless steel pans
Love them, if you burn anything, soak with soapy water overnight and it comes off. I've only had stainless steel pans for the last 25 years. Hate non stick.

summerfish · 07/07/2020 14:34

Thanks all - I hadn't considered Ikea - that might be a good shout.

The Stellar ones - do the handles get really hot? I'm always wary of steel handles.

I have a Green Pan frying pan (not from John Lewis to be fair) and after a year or so the non-stickness has worn, so they're not at all non-stick anymore.

Another vote for IKEA. Fantastic quality and looks lovely.

summerfish · 07/07/2020 15:00

I was looking at these but wondered if they were a bit small?

Which IKEA ones do people recommend? A lot of theirs don't seem to have handles, which I think I'd find a faff.

One of the things I wish I had known was that cheap pans are the dearest. For the planet, obviously, but also for the buyer. Non stick give off carcinogenic fumes, so that's nice. A le creuset cast iron enamel doesn't stick or need scrubbing, even without a nonstick coating, and will last forever, so do the Judge, which survive being boiled dry.

summerfish · 07/07/2020 17:19

I have heard that Le Creuset are very heavy. Despite that, I really couldn't justify the cost - I mean, they might last forever, but wow!

Judge look good on Amazon - I haven't heard of those ones.

I'm keen to get ones where the handles don't get too hot, and which have actual sticky out handles (if that makes sense) rather than grab side handles that require two hands.

I have had quite a few sets over the years, personally I think stainless steel are longer lasting, I am not a fan of non stick coatings. M&S set were good, procook seemed sturdy but had a problem with the most used saucepan, replaced with a Judge one that seems good so far. Definitely worth paying a bit more for a quality set.

LadyofMisrule · 07/07/2020 17:29

I have Le Creuset, Sainsbury's, Staub and Aldi cast iron casserole dishes and use those as pans - I don't buy heavy pans that only have one handle. Le Creuest is certainly better than the others - the enamelling is finer and you get much cleaner edges that are less prone to rusting.

My Ikea frying pan has been great for years. My Lidl ceramic frying pans were initially amazing but the non-stickness was lost fairly quickly.

I have other Ikea pans but they aren't perfect - water gets trapped between the body of the pan and the base. I had Meyer professional before that, and they looked beautiful until I put them in the dishwasher, whereupon the base reacted with the aluminium and they always looked tatty.

TheMandalorian · 07/07/2020 17:33

I have a stainless steel set which is great for being able to put in the dishwasher. However, the handles on the lids have come apart so check how they are affixed before purchase.

I can fully recommend Mauviel,I started my collection a couple of years ago, great pans and look good too. I've also invested in the kettle. We visited the factory in France where they make them so managed to get a slight discount.

Not sure if I've put the link on here properly.

I got mine from Tesco, generic stainless steel, still look great, all the handles are intact. I recall we bought one every week or so, so probably not particularly cheap. But it meant we got what we needed, rather than a 'set'.
They're over 25 years old now.

Bluegrasstrail · 07/07/2020 19:03

I've got a set of Brabantia pans that were on a good deal on groupon or something. They don't stick, go in the dishwasher and oven, work on induction and so far have been pretty unbreakable and hard to scratch. I'd buy them again.

Gulsink · 07/07/2020 19:05

We have Analon ones which are starting to lose their coating after about 10 years of mis-treatment.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 07/07/2020 19:07

I've got Tower pans. They are pink and pretty Grin. I've only had them for a year or so though so can't comment on how long they might last.

anxietrist · 07/07/2020 19:12

Eaziglide are really good, we got ours from John Lewis. Remember you shouldn't use olive oil in pans though it leaves a coating and eventually ruins them.

xanthippe8 · 07/07/2020 19:15

I've used a Stellar set for 20 odd years now, still as good as new and the handles don't get hot, if they needed replacing (which they won't!) I'd buy them again.

Ifailed · 07/07/2020 19:17

Try looking at on-line catering suppliers, I find the stuff there is far more durable and price-wise match most high st places.

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 07/07/2020 19:19

I have a fabulous Pyrex one. It has a clever lid that lets you drain through it, so no need for a colander.
