Not bothering with a bra during lockdown

There's a fashion piece in the Guardian about a decline in bra wearing during lockdown.

I'm interested to know thoughts on this! Has anyone stopped wearing their bra and found it a revelation?

I always feel sloppy and undressed without a bra, and don't find it very comfortable with quite large boobs (E cup). I'm breastfeeding at the moment and wear nursing bras with pads to handle leaks.

I don't know if I would ever feel comfortable going braless regularly (breastfeeding aside) but how much is that because of societal expectations I wonder? I very rarely shave my legs or underarms because I don't like using my free time doing that, and I am not much bothered any more about what others think of that. Maybe similar in terms of choices.

H cup and rarely wear one now. I do for running and other exercise. But I find that underwired ones in particular are uncomfortable and dig in or even comfortable ones are annoying after a few hours.

How is a 30FF not big?!

I'm a 32 DD but feel uncomfortable without one even just slobbing around in pjs.

They do sometimes feel uncomfy by the end of the day tho and then I'll ping it off.

Am sure the answer is bras which are more comfortable!

i also find they cause shoulder pain, I'm about a C cup depending on who made the bra. (Older ones labelled B still fit fine). So only if I'm leaving the house in a top where it would show that I am doing an Ingrid Fletcher. (guess what I've been watching on the iplayer?)

choice is very limited as I won't wear itchy skanky lace, colours (bras should be white, beige or black depending on what is going over them), revolting bows, mucky frills, underwires and narrow shoulder straps. There aren't many bras made that don't have at least one of those problems, and I bought out Sainsbury's stock last time so I'm good for years now.

Good thread, OP. I am in a similar situation though my breastfeeding is down to morning and evening only now. Still wearing my nursing bras which do nothing for me at all. No longer need to wear pads nor a bra for bed which I felt like would never happen, and that feels good! Don't think I have ever worn the right sized bra. I've recently joined a couple of groups on fb eg boob or bust and find a bra that fits, or something, as I am desperate for something that's comfortable and flattering. I could never go without a bra during the day. They're like jelly and hang so low my clothes wouldn't actually fit! Think I just need to wait til my baby stops feeding, also want to lose some weight then I will try bravissimo or even somewhere like Rigby and peller and treat it as an investment.

I've switched to bralettes under lock down but I have a 26" back which means that even if I managed to find a 30" back bra the underwires were always too big and either poking me in the arm or boob. Fortunately I've got small boobs so I don't need the support from a bra.

I have huge boobs and currently can't get my HRT so they hurt like hell. I could never go bra less

Bra? The knickers have become very much an optional extra in lock down!

I don’t find bras uncomfy. Even in lockdown, l usually wear a bra unless it is really warm, then l don’t. But I don’t wear a bra in very warm weather outside of lockdown either. That is with the exception of when at work; I always wear one for work.

My GGs have been roaming free during lockdown and I don't care. Grin

@StarlightLady ooh la la 😉

Interesting to read all these experiences. I'd never heard of bra or bust so might find out about that.

@NemesiaPinkLagoon - With summer dresses it’s so easy and practical.
