Moving to Shropshire?

Hi,we have found a house in CleeHill Village.Shropshire.
Anyone could tell me how the living is over there?
We have 2 cars,so this not an issue.Seen primary and secondary nearby but can't find any after school clubs.
My boys 4&11yo are very sporty.
Any Rugby, football, kick boxing, swimming for kids close by?
I did find some in bigger cities but travelling 40min to 1h is bit too long for a club...
Also can't find cinema/theatre..
Please shine some light if you can...
Any opinion/advise is highly appreciated.
Eva

Ludlow has a leisure centre and is probably the closest for clubs. There is a cinema at Ludlow and in Tenbury Wells. Due to the height there it often has snow on the ground when there is nothing 10-20 minutes away, be prepared for getting snowed in and scary driving!

Your nearest big towns would be Shrewsbury. Ludlow is beautiful but a market town. The cinema is a small cinema I.e doesn't show blockbusters.

Shropshire is a large and rural county. Before we moved here we too would have said no to driving 40mins - 1 hour for clubs etc but now I class 30 mins as a short journey and 40 mins - 1hour as standard for things like clothes shopping and cinema trips.

Thank you.This is very helpful.
Yeah...there is no place to have it all:(
ATM we have all amenities just few steps away but we crave for village life and some space finally...

Also, what do you think about Birmingham?
Is it as unsafe place as people say?
Surely safer than London or am I wrong?

Birmingham isn't unsafe, at least no more than any big city. It's very different to Clee Hill though!!!!!

ginsparkles · 05/07/2020 19:24

Shropshire is a lovely county. I couldn't say enough positive things about it.

AdoptedBumpkin · 05/07/2020 19:26

A friend of mine moved to Ellesmere and mostly likes it, but says there is a lot of driving, as the public transport is not very good, especially at night.

mingymoo · 05/07/2020 21:08

Are you tied to Shropshire for work? There are some nice villages near Worcester that would give you the rural life with leisure facilities nearby.

theluckiest · 05/07/2020 21:28

Clee village is beautiful. But the 4x4 would be a must I'd imagine. There's an enormous hill to climb to get to Clee or out of it!! If I could get a job around that area, I'd seriously consider moving there as it's stunning.

However, it will take you a lot longer than you think to get anywhere. There aren't many motorways or fast roads once you're in Shropshire & away from the main towns like Telford or Shrewsbury. Very rural.

And as a Brummie born and bred, I can assure you that Birmingham is exactly like other cities - some bits good, some bits not so good but I'm sad that you think it's unsafe!!! Some parts of Brum are absolutely lovely. Honest. And we don't bite...Grin

Sorry - no idea why my MN app keeps posting things twice!

1hamwich4 · 05/07/2020 21:43

Shrewsbury sounds more your thing. Or Telford & surrounds.

Shropshire is lovely but very very white and a bit Brexity.

evkah · 05/07/2020 22:46

:)glad to hear that.
It is not my opinion just what I have heard really.
I lived in London for several years so I guess I get along in Birmingham if needs too:)
Yes,we have 4x4(guess will need newer version soon lol)
I like what I have seen in Shropshire,so hopefully, fingers crossed all will work out with the house and all.

What about Newport. It's a lovely town. Great schools and close to larger towns of Shrewsbury and Telford. Also close to the motorway. Newport has a great rugby club and a good cycling club.

keiratwiceknightly · 05/07/2020 23:44

I'd suggest looking towards Kidderminster. Cleobury Mortimer is close to Clee
Hill but far less remote, and a 15 min trip to Kidderminster which is unexciting And provincial but has all the facilities/clubs etc of a mid sized town. Ludlow etc in the other direction are beautiful but increasingly rural.

YourVagesty · 05/07/2020 23:49

There's a big multiplex in Shrewsbury if cinema is your thing. Birmingham is close by if you like going to the theatre etc. And it's really convenient for flights. Ludlow is a very 'foody' place and the whole county has a reputation for being upmarket. Well most of it. Not so much in the east of the county (Telford is a bit rougher than the rest of the county) , but Shrewsbury, Ludlow etc. All known as mostly 'naice', and Clee is part of that for sure. My DH has loads of clients in Clee and they are mostly bankers or landed gentry with gigantic country piles. My poshest friend is also from Clee Grin So if you've ever yearned to go on a pheasant shoot or invest in pair of labradors, now's your chance Grin

copperoliver · 06/07/2020 00:01

It's lovely there I'd move to Ludlow tomorrow if I could. X

Countrysidelife54 · 06/07/2020 00:02

I agree with previous poster about Newport.
It is well connected to Telford which is great, People love to put Telford down especially people who have never even been there its really odd, before I moved here I was expecting Telford to be terrible from what the Internet told me, I am from the south East and was shocked at how lovely it was, great countryside on your doorstep has a fabulous Big Modern Shopping Centre lovely restaurants, bowling and IceRink, soft play, fabulous large play park attached with multiple play areas walks lakes and golf and water spray play area, there is barely any traffic you can get to anywhere so quickly its amazing! You can also get to Shrewsbury fairly easily.
Shifnal is also a lovely market town with great connections.

copperoliver · 06/07/2020 00:03

Don't go to Birmingham. Go to Ludlow. Much better for you and your family. X
