Hi,we have found a house in CleeHill Village.Shropshire.
Anyone could tell me how the living is over there?
We have 2 cars,so this not an issue.Seen primary and secondary nearby but can't find any after school clubs.
My boys 4&11yo are very sporty.
Any Rugby, football, kick boxing, swimming for kids close by?
I did find some in bigger cities but travelling 40min to 1h is bit too long for a club...
Also can't find cinema/theatre..
Please shine some light if you can...
Any opinion/advise is highly appreciated.
Eva

Shropshire is beautiful, but some areas are pretty remote, and I think when your boys are teenagers it could present a few challenges, unless you are prepared to offer a 24 hour taxi service! Grin

Yeah,I know what you mean.
For now I would be driving them around anyway, when older, there is a bus and possibility of passing driving license test;-)
I looked far ahead and wondered how far it is to University but then my hubby woke me up...Firstly ,we have no idea what he will want to do with his life after college, second he probably will not want to live with pops anyway:-)
So,now looking for the next few years only lol.luckily, job allows me for a bit of flexibility

Birmingham, Aberystwyth, Chester, Bristol, Swansea and Cardiff Unis are close enough OP. There are probably others I missed off.

I grew up in rural Shropshire and while my childhood was idyllic the teenage years were a right pain in the arse to be honest. For my parents and me.

I would definitely look at Newport. Close to Telford and the amenities there, a nice little high street and good schools. The only downside is the Harper’s students getting too pissed on a night out.

Shropshire is lovely but very very white and a bit Brexity.

What a strange comment. What’s wrong with somewhere being ‘very very white’. You wouldn’t say somewhere was ‘very very black’ as a negative point. Like many rural areas across the country, Shropshire’s towns and villages aren’t very ethnically diverse but I’ve always found everyone to be lovely.

I grew up in Oswestry, and love Shropshire. I don't know Clee Hill though. I always prefer North Shropshire, to me it's less remote. If I had lots of money I might look at Clive or Grinshall (Hadnall area).

1hamwich4 · 06/07/2020 19:59

Scion if you chose to interpret that comment as a negative comment, that says far more about you than anything else.

Scion286 · 06/07/2020 20:15

Can you explain to me why it’s a positive thing to say then? I just don’t know why someone would need to point it out.

1hamwich4 · 06/07/2020 20:38

You seem determined to have an argument about something you think I meant, without any evidence for it. I don’t want to argue so will not be commenting further on this, beyond:

It’s simply a comment on what Shropshire is like. If you are used to more diverse places, say, you could be surprised/pleased/discomfited/horrified/whatever depending on your personal feelings on these things. I would not presume to think I know how the OP might feel about ethnicity or Brexit, but thought they might find such a comment illustrative of an aspect of Shropshire, as they asked about moving there.

Scion286 · 06/07/2020 20:49

I’m not determined to have an argument at all.

It seemed to me to be a very odd statement to make ‘Shropshire is lovely but it’s very very white’. The ‘but’ implies that it’s a negative thing. If you want to tell someone about the ethnicity of the people who live somewhere then by all means do so, just think about the way you phrase it.

Shropshire is a beautiful county, the people are friendly, welcoming and inclusive to all.
