Slight tweak to the suggestion, but here it is.

Bubble I hope you get to see your friend

Willow2017 · 05/07/2020 13:03

Bubble thats awful i am so sorry you cant see your friend. Hopefully you can find a way to get a message to her. Maybe call the ward and ask the staff?

Glorious sunshine here but wind blowing hard enough to knock you off your feet! Was howling around the house earlier. So I am still lodged on the sofa thinking I should move my ass and do dishes and house work. No bloody motivation at all.

PickAChew · 05/07/2020 13:04

@BubbleIsNotAFuckingVerb

I'm sorry that was a bit me me me especially when so many of us are struggling. It's the thought of my friend alone and that I can't see her. The voice recording is a good idea and I thought photos especially old ones of us would help. But I can't see her, only her H can see her, from what she has told me recently I don't think he will do anything like that. The saddest thing is I also know from what she has told me they don't even love each other any more yet he is there and I can't be with her. She can't see anyone that loves her. How can this be fair, to treat people in the absolutely worst and vulnerable moments of their lives like this.
That's heartbreaking, bubble and so sad for her that she's not able to be comforted by those who really do care for her.
PickAChew · 05/07/2020 13:06

The wind is annoying me, too. The sun is shining and making the house hot but I can't fling all the windows open to let some air through because everything elds up slamming.

HairyFloppins · 05/07/2020 13:07

Sorry to hear about your friend Bubbles. Hope you are able to talk to her some how.

Lickyicelollies · 05/07/2020 13:08

@BubbleIsNotAFuckingVerb so sorry to hear about your friend - I really hope you can get to see her. Surely the visiting restrictions should be lifted now as others have said...?

A good friend of mine lost her Mum in April (to cancer, not covid related) after a few weeks in hospital. The visiting restrictions and lack of communication from the ward was appalling and, I would argue, inhumane. My friend's sister is going to have therapy for probable PTSD after it.

Mascotte · 05/07/2020 13:10

@Lickyicelollies yes, this is inhumane. It's bizarre how our supposedly fundamental values and kindness have been unceremoniously ditched.

Orangeblossom78 · 05/07/2020 13:17

It is not very healthy for us to avoid all germs

Some studies have shown e.g. childhood leukaemia is linked to ultra clean environments. www.nhs.uk/news/cancer/child-leukaemia-linked-reduced-exposure-germs/

Nihiloxica · 05/07/2020 13:19

I'm so sorry about your friend, Bubble. She sounds wonderful and it's not right that you can't see her.

It is probably worth checking because the rules seem to vary, particularly in end of life situations.

Please don't worry about being "Me, me, me". We are here to support each other through the tribulations of lockdown, from not being able to visit a dear friend in hospital to wondering about how soft porn is signed Smile

I really hope you can make contact. Xxx

Allflightscancelled · 05/07/2020 13:20

Indeed, Orange but obviously all bets are off when we're talking a bout Covid. HmmBecause there is nothing that matters more than Covid.

Allflightscancelled · 05/07/2020 13:24

Sorry too, Bubble.

Dds gone to work in her supermarket today. She's been working throughout lockdown without PPE (her own preference, it is available) but now all of a sudden she's GOT to wear the full visor. And possibly a mask also but this is to be confirmed. Randomly, working on a checkout is fine, but working on a checkout in a cafe is way more risky Hmm

Allflightscancelled · 05/07/2020 13:25

Oh and she is also behind a Perspex screen.

Teateaandmoretea · 05/07/2020 13:28

It is not very healthy for us to avoid all germs

Bringing it directly back to covid the theory is that people who have been exposed to certain cold strains may have some immunity already to covid. So there would have been a lot more sadly deaths potentially if we hadn’t been exposed to germs.

Mascotte · 05/07/2020 13:29

@Nihiloxica yes, it is a wide ranging thread 😂

psychomath · 05/07/2020 13:38

Orangeblossom your morning sounds lovely!

LivinLaVidaLoki · 05/07/2020 13:43

@mascotte
Sadly deaths this last 7 days total 685 average 97.8
7 before that total 768 average 109
7 before that total 927 average 132

Infections
Last 7 days total 4978 average 711
7 before that total 6719 average 959
7 before that total 8823 average 1260

Sorry if that's not the question you were asking x

Spudlet · 05/07/2020 13:45

The opticians that I use for DS are lovely but my god, the getup they have them all in. Masks (fair enough), visors (I guess it involves a fair bit of getting close to people’s faces, so ditto), gloves (but are they changing them with every customer) and disposable aprons?! The kind that nurses and HCAs use to clean patients up after an accident?! What the hell are they planning on doing to those glasses back there?! And they even wear uniforms, so could change their clothes and do the whole hot wash thing anyway!

Some of it makes total sense, but the aprons... it’s like they’re about to perform surgery on you, not help you pick out some frames Blush

SpnBaby1967 · 05/07/2020 13:45

I'm so sorry @BubbleIsNotAFuckingVerb that's proper shit.

Fb is full of "someone I know works in A&E and they said yesterday it was full with drunken idiots with all broken bones". I swear our local A&E must employ 100 nurses/doctors on a saturday night!!

ssd · 05/07/2020 13:46

So sorry bubbles, that's awful Flowers

For everyone talking about food shopping deliveries, don't forget Iceland, they gave loads if in frozen stuff and I always get a delivery the next day.. And free over £35

ssd · 05/07/2020 13:47

They have loads of unfrozen CHRIST

LivinLaVidaLoki · 05/07/2020 13:54

@SpnBaby1967
The same on mine....with some I have commented "you realise we know the same people, right"
There is one friend who is constantly saying that her friend who works at the hospital says we are having a spike or some such nonsense. The hospital put stats out every week, there are 3 people across 2 hospitals in hospital that have tested positive for covid (note...not in hospital because of covid) and there have been 2 new cases this week.
But she is just "but my friend says we should close the beaches as its awful", "but my friend says we should have a local lockdown", "but, but, the R rate" ad infinitum.
I used to really like this friend but this is fucking exhausting. The fact she wont let her child get within 2m of another child (seriously we went on a playdate to a country park and anytime the kids got within 2m she would shout "2m!!!!") and sends them into school with their own hand gel (hidden in a pocket as kids have to minimise what they bring in). Its beyond fucking exhausting.
If our kids weren't friends I'd have sacked her off by now. Which is a shame cos she used to be a LOT of fun.

glotterbug · 05/07/2020 13:55

Checking in, lost you all for a while

PickAChew · 05/07/2020 13:56

I think Iceland is often overlooked @ssd. I couldn't do a full week's shop on their but the quality is pretty decent for the price point. I used it a lot, back in the day, when there was one convenient and still pop in, occasionally.

PickAChew · 05/07/2020 13:57

In there. Stupid phone.

torydeathdrug · 05/07/2020 13:58

@BubbleIsNotAFuckingVerb much sympathy, it is inhumane, I’m really sorry :(

@Teateaandmoretea the cross reactivity of antibodies from other corona viruses is one reason they think children are less affected - they get 12 colds a year on average! Adults get just a couple.

@Allflightscancelled dd is in a visor and optional mask. She was reflecting last night that the weekend before shutdown she worked an event with 500 (mostly elderly) guests in one room, no covid mitigations apart from extra staff hand washing. That room is now ‘covid secure’ with a maximum of 44 (!!!) guests in the same space. No one got ill from the March event, at a time of the maximum community transmission. We (this country) need to get a collective grip.
