There must be nice, practical shoes that aren't heels, ballet pumps or trainers!

Coming to the point where pairs of shoes I own need replacing or repairing.

I want nice, practical, comfy shoes to wear that aren't "fashionable trainers", ballet slippers that dissolve or heels that make you hobble along.

What is this mythical shoe, please?! Is there one?

Yes, I have boots - but I guess in my head they are more for when its cold winter weather.

Brogues,

Loafers?

nancybotwinbloom · 04/07/2020 14:13

Summer if I'm in the house or running the shop I live in Nike flip flops.

Winter I wear uggs.

I actually have 75 pairs of shoes and boots but these are for nice places or work. Not Asda or the school run.

Loafers

Brogues. I love brogues.

In summer I don't go open backed shoes or flip flops much because my heels get bad so quickly.

There are plenty of what I would call robust ballet slippers out there. I don't know what they are really called but they are enclosed on toe and heel and open on top like a ballet slipper but robust in the sole and heel like a normal shoe. Will find links to ones I got...

OP - at the mo i live in FitFlop Tia sandals.

I've got them in 3 colours and i cannot express how comfy they are. I can put them on brand new out of the box and wear them all day. My oldest pair is in the middle of it's 3rd spring/summer and is going strong. They have been worn for days and days on end, used on two beach holidays and worn through clambouring around on ground works and getting in and out of the digger while doing the foundations of our house last year. Plus all the school runs. (We walk)

For Autumn and winter? - god knows i'm lost too Grin

Thank you everyone! I will spend a happy few hours looking through this lot.

For the one i linked to - they do half sizes, but if your size isn't in stock go up, not down.

mencken · 04/07/2020 15:05

ballet flats not only produce a comical waddling walk, but are really bad for your feet. And provide no protection against hard surfaces, stones etc.

I always wear bloke trainers - I have very little choice as women's shoes are not now available in my size. Older size 8s still fit but shoes seem to have been downsized. You also can't get any heel that isn't 3 inches high. Fortunately I have the one pair of ankle boots I need for funerals and no longer have to go to an office. Would be nice to have some vaguely smart summer evening shoes but no such thing now.

MikeUniformMike · 04/07/2020 15:07

Ballet flats are hideous.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/07/2020 15:13

Siebal are lovely, but too narrow for me.

I am trying Fly London, a posh brand it seems. I bought boots last year in an Amazon sale. FitFlop ish, very comfortable and properly nice to look at

SeagoingSexpot · 04/07/2020 15:15

What have you got against trainers? There are about a billion trainers out there in every style imaginable and plenty of then are very comfortable. Do you care about style at all, or is it just comfort? Actual athletic trainers can easily tick both boxes, or you can go for a fitflop, Skechers or similar style - untrendy, but very comfy. I tend to wear out a pair of Skechers for casual slopping about every summer.

Fit flop ballerinas or many of their ranges are your friend!

I work in PR and am on my feet a lot for work.

Trainers won't cut it when I have corporate events.

Fit flop have great styles that are office friendly and like walking on air!

HaudMaDug · 04/07/2020 15:24

Doc Martens do some fab shoes and sandals in a range with a less bulky sole than the original airwear soles.

NeedToKnow101 · 04/07/2020 15:27

I agree about trainers actually. There are so many styles, colours and types. What's not to like?. I live in trainers.

BogRollBOGOF · 04/07/2020 15:31

I've never worked out shoes. If I had a shoe size I think it would be about a 1J?

I wear ladies 4s for width so need styles forgiving of a spare inch, absolutely not slip off on, as they stay put when I attempt to walk off, a secure narrow heel with enough width at the toe and height in the arch. I have never been able to move in a ballet pump/ court shoe.

I live in trainers, boots and birkenstocks.
It puts me off wearing dresses as between muscular calves, half my foot being ankle and a shoe being securely attached to my foot, they just look clunky.
I save low Hotter Heels for best. Hotter is my feet's attempt at glamour.

If my feet dare to give me bunions after the decades of crime against style that my fussy awkward feet have inflicted on me, there will be baaad vibes in the world!

Juo · 04/07/2020 15:41

I've got lots of this kind of thing.
Got them in sparkly greens and pinks as well as black

Pascha · 04/07/2020 15:44

I like Toms

amusedbush · 04/07/2020 16:28

Proper sturdy loafers are nice and look good with work clothes and casual.
