What’s everyone doing about school uniform??

Normally by now I would have ordered the logo’d stuff, and start picking up the other stuff when the offered on on - school shirts etc
But with no certainty that school will be back as normal in September and with them currently not wearing uniform due to hygiene reasons (can’t wash a blazer etc daily) I’m not sure what todo?
I don’t want to buy it all and them not have to wear it for 6 months and have grown out of it!!
What’s everyone else doing?

My son starts in September, what I found strange is uniforms are 3-4 then 5-6. What about 4-5 (his actual size). I was also baffled by all the logo stuff like varsity jackets. Its gonna cost hundreds for his uniformShock

Secondary have sent letters home reminding us to order early, I have a feeling end of July is the usual cut off to guarantee having stuff by September. They are expecting everyone to be in full uniform. Its polo shirt and sweatshirt so at least easy to wash but they do insist on trousers/skirts from the specific supplier (logoed).

No uniform needed for 6th form though, so although we might need to get a couple more pairs of jeans DD is good to go.

No information yet from DSs school, although I did pick up a few more polo shirts for hi as hes grown out of the currentmones. Plain so he'll wear them either way.

Normally we'd have been out and bought all 3 of our kids new sets of uniform each, but we've had to take a different approach this year due to H being made redundant and my own business income dropping to zero. We've gone from financially ok to broke overnight.

Youngest DD starts high school this term, none of her p-school uniform is suitable for taking forward as that was polo shirts and trousers and shes starting same school as her older siblings with blazers/shirts/skirts. Thankfully we were organised and ordered/paid for all her uniform from the supplier months ago. It came to almost £300 for everything including the PE kit, and its a cost we would have struggled to cover now. Its all arrived and fits her perfectly and shes so excited to be going to the high school, practising tieing her tie and everything.

With the older two we got them to try on their uniforms last weekend to see how they fitted seeing as they've not worn them in months. DS goes into 2nd year, and other than new shoes, will get away with dropping the hem on trousers, and his shirts are more or less ok (collars a bit tight), and the wool v-neck is ok too as he's didnt get a full years wear out of them. His blazers ok too as it was really big for him last year.

DD's going into 4th year (thankfully not 5th or it would have been blazer changes and everything for the senior years), but hers is ok. New shoes, her skirts will do her for now (ok they're way shorter than i'd prefer but i can't see her complaining), and her shirts are just about ok too. Fine in the arms and body, its just the collar that's too tight to fasten.

Overall we've agreed with them that they'll wear what they have at the moment and we'll replace things later in the year once we're earning again. Both DS and DD will go to school with their collar undone and tie a bit loose, but I'm not too bothered. Was half expecting a fight with them anyway since they've not worn it in months and with everything else that we're dealing with at the moment its not a high priority. Just need to make do for the moment until things are a bit more normal.

Thankfully DS and DD's HT has seen real sense and has emailed all parents to say that uniform from September - January will be black trousers or skirt, white polo shirt and black jumper or cardi if wanted. She's advised people to buy supermarket so they can have a change each day as it's likely they'll be insisiting on that

Apparently the usual uniform supply shop is absolutely furious

My DC school had been wearing own clothes last term, but have requested full uniform on return in September. So I will be buying it later on in August as normal.

Aaargghh!
Just over a week left to sort. Am in a quandry - the polos still fit but look tired as do the sweatshirts. Skirts and trousers still good.
That said, after only a few washes the sweats faded a bit. Feeling obliged to buy new as fresh start etc and maybe alternate with older stuff so could in theory have five lots but also trying to keep costs down, esp if there are closures later. I know of one mum whose child has just left but it feels a bit wrong to text out the blue offering to buy hers.
Are you lot all kitted out?

well the kids have been back to school here in scotland for a couple of weeks now. no issues so far (c19 wise), no tantrums (kids wise). Dropped the youngest off on 1st day, they were in by themselves first for 2 days before the rest, all looked so smart all in their wee uniforms, looked great. Couldnt quite say the same for the older kids when i dropped the older ones off on their first day back, they fitted right in with their slightly open collars - so yeah a success so far. long may it continue!
