Normally we'd have been out and bought all 3 of our kids new sets of uniform each, but we've had to take a different approach this year due to H being made redundant and my own business income dropping to zero. We've gone from financially ok to broke overnight.
Youngest DD starts high school this term, none of her p-school uniform is suitable for taking forward as that was polo shirts and trousers and shes starting same school as her older siblings with blazers/shirts/skirts. Thankfully we were organised and ordered/paid for all her uniform from the supplier months ago. It came to almost £300 for everything including the PE kit, and its a cost we would have struggled to cover now. Its all arrived and fits her perfectly and shes so excited to be going to the high school, practising tieing her tie and everything.
With the older two we got them to try on their uniforms last weekend to see how they fitted seeing as they've not worn them in months. DS goes into 2nd year, and other than new shoes, will get away with dropping the hem on trousers, and his shirts are more or less ok (collars a bit tight), and the wool v-neck is ok too as he's didnt get a full years wear out of them. His blazers ok too as it was really big for him last year.
DD's going into 4th year (thankfully not 5th or it would have been blazer changes and everything for the senior years), but hers is ok. New shoes, her skirts will do her for now (ok they're way shorter than i'd prefer but i can't see her complaining), and her shirts are just about ok too. Fine in the arms and body, its just the collar that's too tight to fasten.
Overall we've agreed with them that they'll wear what they have at the moment and we'll replace things later in the year once we're earning again. Both DS and DD will go to school with their collar undone and tie a bit loose, but I'm not too bothered. Was half expecting a fight with them anyway since they've not worn it in months and with everything else that we're dealing with at the moment its not a high priority. Just need to make do for the moment until things are a bit more normal.
