As in stripping off into her underwear and trying the dress on, looking at her reflection in the window, then sending her friend in to get a different size Shock

This is not normal behaviour is it? Has COVID stretched the boundaries of what is considered acceptable to this extent? (I’m assuming her reason was something to do with COVID)

I didn’t put this in AIBU because I’m definitely not BU.

Anyone else seen shocking behaviour recently that wouldn’t have happened pre-pandemic?

If she's got the confidence to do it, why not? You'd see at least as much skin on a public beach. And when it was nice last week I saw a lot of topless men wandering happily around and no one seemed upset by that!

Itsacakebaby · 30/06/2020 14:44

Some people have no inhibitions Confused

saraclara · 30/06/2020 14:45

With changing rooms and public toilets closed, if you live far away or are reliant on someone else's transport to get to the shops, buying something that turns out not to fit is a bit of a disaster.

CountessFrog · 30/06/2020 14:45

It’s ridiculous. The changing rooms should be open with some sanitation measures.

forrandomposts · 30/06/2020 14:45

I was told to do this yesterday by staff in a shop. They said I couldn't try something on I store but could take it outside to try on. No idea what the rational is!

frog22 · 30/06/2020 14:48

The poor staff having to deal with that!

janetmendoza · 30/06/2020 14:49

Good for her! This is exactly the sort of thing I would do. Buy dress, try on outside maybe over vest or crop top, whoosh off trousers under dress, look at self in shop window and return straight away if no good.

LightenUpSummer · 30/06/2020 14:50

Excellent! Wish I had the sheer barefaced cheek(s) to do something like that

Kasparovski · 30/06/2020 14:51

Just ew. ☹️

JaniceWebster · 30/06/2020 14:51

What's wrong with that? Not something that I would do, but Primark (especially) used to be full of people trying things in the aisles when the changing rooms were packed.

That sounds efficient and not hurting anyone, so hey ho. A bit word, but not indecent or anything shocking.

JaniceWebster · 30/06/2020 14:52

they are not allowed to let you try things on in store, but nothing stops you from putting things on in the street, it makes sense in a way.

Other customers will complain about seeing underwear in the store / you might complain about the cctv cameras later have a recording of your underwear.

If you choose to do it in the street, whilst just as legal, the risk to the store is different..

Didyousaynutella · 30/06/2020 14:54

I am impressed at her ingenuity. Definitely must have bought and didn’t want a return trip. It is a pain in the bum having to return things. What is the point of having shops If you can’t try things on. Might as well order online.
I hadn’t realised and tried a jacket on in the mirror the other day ( first time in a shop apart from supermarket) . I got approached by a member of staff to say she need the garment now to quarantine. I wanted to buy anyway so she let me keep hold of itBlush

GinnyStrupac · 30/06/2020 14:54

We live in a National Park, so of course we've seen all shades of shocking from visitors since Boris got rid of the rules around travel for exercise and leisure. Outdoor toileting, including in residents' gardens, places of beauty turned into rubbish tips, dangerous parking on bends and narrow lanes, fights, abusing village shop staff and selfishly emptying shelves, you name it. I wouldn't do it, but this woman trying on a dress al fresco wasn't hurting anything or anyone at least. It will make interesting CCTV footage - how long before it appears online?!

MerryInthechelseahotel · 30/06/2020 14:56

I remember going to one of those factory shops oliversmum It was selling Laura Ashley stuff and there were no inhibitions there at all Grin

GinnyStrupac · 30/06/2020 15:01

And much prefer this to all the topless men in public - ye gods.

BombyliusMajor · 30/06/2020 15:01

Why not just buy the dress online, try it on at home, and return by post if it doesn’t fit?

1forAll74 · 30/06/2020 15:02

I bet she was filmed on someones camera phone, so she will be famous now.

SockYarn · 30/06/2020 15:04

@Eminybob

Are fitting rooms not open in clothes shops?
No. I was out shopping with DD this morning, in large shops like H&M, Zara, River Island, Next, New Look.

No fitting rooms open at all.

So I'm guessing that this woman was told the same thing?

Not sure I would do it, but also can't see why people are so "ew" about it either!

Moonmelodies · 30/06/2020 15:09

When her friend takes it back in, do they just shake the viruses off it, and then hang it back out on the rail in the shop?

CountessFrog · 30/06/2020 15:13

Another example of pointless rules

incognitomum · 30/06/2020 15:13

Dh tried some trousers on in craghoppers the other day in just his short briefs.

Can't imagine doing this though?

earthyfire · 30/06/2020 15:13

I'm not that desperate for a dress that I need to give people a free peep show.

BogRollBOGOF · 30/06/2020 15:14

It's a Covid-Safe thing to do and that's the only moral value of 2020 Wink
