Anyone know anywhere we could get away with wild camping near Bournemouth ?

Just me and the kids one night, I do think I could pitch up our small tent somewhere around the new forest, but I’m worried we could get trampled on by cows !!

It's illegal in England and Wales if you don't have permission from the landowner.
There's some advice in here on the practicalities.

I know, that’s why I’m wondering where we could go we won’t even get noticed would get there past midnight and leave before 6 and we won’t be having any campfires and it will be left as it was when we arrived

Please don't, there are arseholes doing this all over. I'm sure you think you won't get noticed but you will. And you will do damage regardless of how careful you are. People like you are the reason the roads to Durdle Door has to be closed this week, as you all think it's ok to be the only one doing it!

If you do please don't use any disposable BBQs, we have been inundated with heath fires in Dorset due to people camping and leaving them behind Sad

Lardlizard · 25/06/2020 09:39

What’s happened to the Dursley’s door road then ? They’ve closed it to stop people going down there ?
We certainly won’t be havjgn any bbq or leaving any litter or anything

As everyone else has said, please don't. The emergency services have enough to deal with. I know you say you won't have a BBQ and won't leave litter, fair enough, but others will. You can't have one rule for you and one for everyone else.

Where will you pee, where will you poo? People have had to clear human excrement from Durdle door beach. Volunteers.

30 tents at shell bay this morning. It's a sssi and an extremely vulnerable habitat.

Just don't do it.

1point21gigawatts · 25/06/2020 09:59

And don't got to the new forest either.

mencken · 25/06/2020 10:10

it is illegal without permission. So get permission. What makes you above the law?

remember to take a trowel to bury human waste deep and a bag to remove all litter including toilet paper.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/06/2020 10:11

'just me and the kids' multiplied by 'number of people who don't think the law applies to them' (normal law, not CV 'rules') == lots of human shit, either left or inadequately buried (or worse, left in poop bags to last all the longer).

captainprincess · 25/06/2020 10:22

Please don't. I live in the New Forest and this sort of thing causes so many problems.
Please wait until a campsite is open and do it legally.

Levrierssontmeilleurs · 25/06/2020 10:25

Please don’t. Every body thinks “it’s just us 4 it won’t matter” but when everyone does that It causes havoc

WinstonWolf · 25/06/2020 10:27

Why not just wait until official campsites re-open?

heartsonacake · 25/06/2020 10:36

You know it’s illegal, yet you’re happy to ahead and do it anyway?

Why do you think the law doesn’t apply to you?

Obviouspretzel · 25/06/2020 10:40

No point asking on here OP, complete waste of time. You've clearly explained why it's hurting no one, but everyone here is obsessed with rules.

Wild camping shouldn't even be illegal in the first place. Ridiculous to be illegal to lay your head on the land you live in.

Mummylin · 25/06/2020 10:43

Please don't come. The area has been taken over by inconsiderate people. Bournemouth beaches were completely over run by tourists yesterday. Social distancing was not observed and the amount of rubbish left is disgusting. Durdle Door was closed off yesterday as it was impossible to manage. There are people just parking wherever they like. Wait until the whole situation improves, don't add to the problem. If you must camp do it in your garden !

CoveredInBeeeees · 25/06/2020 10:44

You've clearly explained why it's hurting no one

And several others have explained why it’s ‘hurting’ the land and environment Confused

Ridiculous to be illegal to lay your head on the land you live in and don’t own or care for

Fixed it for you 👍

foamrolling · 25/06/2020 10:46

What's the point if you get there past midnight and leave before 6? How could there be any enjoyment in that?

CoveredInBeeeees · 25/06/2020 10:46

OP, I’m not being funny but this is about the hundredth thread I’ve seen from you over lockdown about overnight stays or holidays that either go against rules and laws, go against official guidance or just won’t be possible for any sensible person. On every thread you get why that day’s particular scenario isn’t a great idea explained to you several times. Accept that we are in exceptional circumstances this year and you won’t be able to do everything you want.

Devlesko · 25/06/2020 10:49

It's illegal, even for those who have a right by race, even those who used to call such areas home.
We have our vehicles which are also our homes taken away now, thanks to pritti racist patel.
It's disgusting, but don't chance losing your vehicle.

Obviouspretzel · 25/06/2020 10:49

No they haven't explained why it is hurting anyone. They have explained how some people have hurt the environment by behaving irresponsibly. Not the same thing.

Lardlizard · 25/06/2020 11:08

Obvious I’ll have to have a look on some wild camping forums as not going to get an sense in here ! It’s not illegal to go to the seaside for the day
And it’s not causing any harm whatsoever pitching up a camp for about 6 hours in the middle of the night
In fact it’s so hot could just sleep on a air bed outside tbh !

OP posts:
arapunzel · 25/06/2020 11:17

Going to the seaside for a day trip is different to camping illegally, on potentially someone else’s land.

heartsonacake · 25/06/2020 11:22

It’s not illegal to go to the seaside for the day

You know perfectly well nobody is saying it is. Don’t be disingenuous; it’s embarrassing.

Wild camping is illegal. You know this, yet are happy to teach your kids it’s okay to break the law?

StripeyBananas · 25/06/2020 11:28

You will only get about five hours sleep anyway. Why not just put your tent up on a beach or park (where the toilets are open) early one morning and spend the day there?

TelephoneTroubles · 25/06/2020 11:28

How old are your children? Are they going to get any enjoyment out of arriving somewhere after midnight (in complete darkness) and then leaving at 6? Confused
