Is There Anyone Else That Wont Be Celebrating Tonight?

There is a lockdown party over the road ... think loud music , whoops , cheering etc . People obviously very happy and i don't begrudge them that at all.

Sadly we have little to celebrate as lockdown has been very traumatic for us , with my mum becoming hospitalised with pneumonia. She then contracted Covid in hospital which was terrifying ( 2 months in hospital) and now she needs cancer treatment which is being delayed because of Covid . Again extremely frightening and my mind is preoccupied with this every minute of the day .

We have also , and will continue to suffer financially.

Is there anyone else that doesn't feel part of the excitement tonight ?

Herd immunity isn't guaranteed with corona virus', normally only lasts for a short amount of time

Plus you get it via a vaccine, not in letting everyone get it

I don't see anything to celebrate here. The virus is still there. People are being dicks acting like everything is normal.
Did anyone else see that tory politician on the news yesterday saying everyone should do their patriotic duty now and go to the pub?? What an idiot. Gareth someone or other.

SomewhereEast · 24/06/2020 17:12

I genuinely don't know a single person IRL who is "celebrating". Parent friends are pleased about playgrounds & one friend is relieved that her particular business now has a chance of not going under, but thats it.

For me my one concern is pubs opening up indoors, because many people will drop even the most basic precautions once they've had a few. I would've preferred the Gov to delay it a bit & offer the industry more support to tide them over.

MaudesMum · 24/06/2020 17:22

I won't be celebrating until theatre and other live performance venues are back, safely. My worry is that by the time this is possible and allowed, there won't be many of them left.

Alsohuman · 24/06/2020 17:26

It’s as if the government has just got bored with it now and decided it’s time to move on.

onlinelinda · 24/06/2020 18:14

One of things I notice is the amount of businesses lining up to complain they shouldn't be excluded, and to dispute the science, every time there is an update. It's gyms and pools today. Often that is followed by a U turn. I don't have a lot of confidence at the moment in the surefootedness of the decision making.

Bl3ss3dm0m · 24/06/2020 22:43

@Sandybval, I am not sure why you are sounding slightly argumentative and/or condescending, as all I said to the OP was that I didn't know that there was something to celebrate, which I still stand by. I didn't once say, or think, that the economy should not get going, of course it should, indeed must, but this will inevitably cost lives, maybe many, maybe not - we just don't know, after all this is new territory for all of us, including Governments all around the world (although I do sort of wish that we were all governed by New Zealand at the moment!). So I was just answering OP's question by saying that no, I am not celebrating, and if we care about all members of our community, I don't understand how anyone can think that there is anything worth celebrating. When the country's finances are back to their normal rubbish levels, when all our workers are back at work, and when there is either an effective vaccine or treatment for this vile virus, that will be the time to celebrate VOC19 Day. Then eveyone bring out the bunting, get drunk (if that is what makes you happy), hug strangers, pile on to the beaches, do whatever legal activity you want to do, and I will celebrate too.

Dicotyledon · 25/06/2020 00:08

I went into a nearby town today. More than half the shops are still closed, the open ones have hardly any custom. I see nothing to celebrate.

AdoptedBumpkin · 25/06/2020 00:24

I'm not excited at all, more fearful of what night happen when the cold weather returns.

Bluesheep8 · 25/06/2020 10:50

I walked past one of my village pubs early evening yesterday to see what must've been 100 people playing loud music from cars, drinking, hugging, dancing and shrieking.
They let fireworks off from 8 til about 10pm as the party continued.
I am furious Hmm

Bluesheep8 · 25/06/2020 10:52

Im just left asking WTF has been the point?

Dicotyledon · 25/06/2020 13:11

Testing how much we can be controlled, perhaps?

Bluesheep8 · 25/06/2020 15:14

Could well be

ssd · 25/06/2020 16:18

Have you seen Bournemouth beaches in the news? Jesus!!!

Bluesheep8 · 26/06/2020 07:20

Yes. This is just the start. Gatherings and parties all the way now, social distancing won't be observed. The government have given us SOME of our freedoms back and when there's an increase in cases, will post pictures of things like Bournemouth beach on the news and say "there you go, it's all your fault" Shifting the blame for all the mistakes THEY'VE made.
This virus hasn't gone away Hmm

Is There Anyone Else That Wont Be Celebrating Tonight?

Man United fans

BikeRunSki · 26/06/2020 07:32

I don't feel it because I'm apprehensive about how it will play out.

I totally agree

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 26/06/2020 07:33

i dont understand the question
what have i missed
what are we supposed to be celebrating specifically?

rodentfeet · 26/06/2020 07:38

second wave coming, dr hilary has said, people dont care but they will... when we are all locked down again... i dont know what celebration you are talking about op.. all this lifting is way too quick.. recently hearing 1 meter distance if you are somewhere you really cant do 2 meters... but otherwise its 2 meters.. but what others have heard is its 1 meter now.. and i can tell by how close people get in the grocery shops etc, i dont know what boris is playing at, is he secretly trying to get herd immunity idk but its too soon

ssd · 26/06/2020 10:57

Dr Hilary talks a lot of sense. I wish people would listen.

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 26/06/2020 11:08
