How is your school operating?

Curious as to how different schools are operating at the moment for the years allowed to go back and what’s ‘normal’?

My DC’s school are open to years reception, 1 and 6 and each bubble is in 2 days a week for 5 hours.

Reception, year 1 and year 6 do mon-Thu, 9am-3pm and Friday half day. Apparently there are only about 8 kids in each class.

RedskyAtnight · 22/06/2020 13:30

Year 10, 1 day a week (25% of year group) for 4 weeks, taught all subjects, in groups of about 12-15

Year 12, 3 days a week (1 day per option) for 4 weeks

Keyworkers' and vulnerable children in Y7-Y9 have supervised online work (they've had this throughout)

Y7-Y9 will get half an hour in small groups with personal tutor before the summer holiday.

Anecdotally, this is better provision than many secondary schools.

Appuskidu · 22/06/2020 13:31

YR and KW only. 4 days, in bubbles of 10 and one day off for deep cleaning.

y10. Those who wanted to return split into 3 and get a week each starting this week, plus an extra day. Divided into subgroups. 4 days of just Maths, English, Science, 2 shorter days of 'options' so 2hrs on each of 4 subjects.

Expecting 2m social distancing wherever possible, sanitiser on entering classroom, large squares marked out for each subgroup for breaks.

Yr R,1,6 plus KW/Vunerable... Full time, but staggered start/finish times. Early finish on Friday for planning time. Classes of up to 15.

Yr2-5... An email with 3-4hrs work on it once a week.

theneverendinglaundry · 22/06/2020 14:18

Our school (a junior school) has year 5, year 6 and key worker children 8:30 - 3, 5 days a week.

theneverendinglaundry · 22/06/2020 14:19

Forgot to add. Years 3 and 4, and the children that have opted to stay at home, get work set for them daily on a website that we log in to. Theres always maths, english and topic work. Sometimes extras like PE and music.

SandieCheeks · 22/06/2020 14:20

Infant school so only usually has Nursery-Y2 but only took R & Y1 back.
Keyworkers are in 6 hours a day 5 days a week.
R & Y1 are in either Mon/Tues or Thurs/Fri - 2 groups in each year at the beginning of the week, two at the end with up to 10 in each group.

starfish4 · 22/06/2020 14:25

Years 1 and 6, four days a week in bubbles of up to 15, plus KW/Vulnerable five days a week for longer hours than usual school day. Next month reception and Year 1 will swap so the younger ones can come in. School aiming to have some school time available for Year 2 as well before breaking up.

InDubiousBattle · 22/06/2020 14:29

My dc's school is open for nursery, reception and years 1&6 (plus the key worker and vulnerable dc it's been open to throughout). All years are full time but with staggered starts and finishes so from 8.45-9.25 in the mornings until 2.45-3.25 . They are in 'bubbles' of no more than 12 but most seem to be fewer than 10, with a teacher and a TA in each bubble. It's a big school with quite large grounds so they're getting them outside as much as possible. It's varying a great deal between school in our area from the full 3 years back full time like ours to key worker dc only and no other dc back at all at some schools.

Pipandmum · 22/06/2020 14:47

40 key worker kids since lockdown, including throughout Easter break. R, Y1 and 6 back every day since June 1, I think most of the kids came back. Y10 back from June 15, divided in to three clusters of 20, each cluster in one day a week for more hands on classes like art and science. Y12 all back one day a week. All other junior school years back from today. Aim is to get all senior school year groups in at least part time before summer (term extended by two weeks).
When not in school all kids get full schedule of online lessons including clubs where possible.
It is a private school with space. They have organised a staggered entry, temperature taking, hand washing stations. Each group is assigned an outside space for lunch and breaks. Younger years are not distancing, older years are inside but only no contact outside. It has taken an enormous effort to set the school up to take the kids back while keeping to the guidelines. The online lessons started before lockdown. The kids have done exams and have tons of homework. All the teachers have done a great job in dealing with remote learning, some more creatively than others for sure. The head has been outstanding - constant communication, webinars for different year groups, a video of how the new entry system and classrooms look like etc. Surveys...I guess I'm getting what I pay for. (25% reduction in fees this term too).

spiderlight · 22/06/2020 16:07

We're in Wales so ours don't open until next week, but they're having one year-group in per day (Y12 and 13 together), in groups of nine students for 90 minutes with staggered starts, and 30 minutes between each group to clean the classrooms. DS is in Y8 and has been offered three 90-minute check-in sessions, purely for well-being with no academic work being done - that's all still online. They're not compulsory and his form tutor told me that the main purpose of them for kids who've engaged with the work online is to show them what the new rules and arrangements will be for September. He found out this afternoon that he's in the same group as his best friend, so he desperately wants to go, but if that hadn't been the case we would probably have just sent him once to see the set-up for next year.

AlpineSnow · 22/06/2020 16:10

Year 10 split into 4, each with a day a week. Year 12 one day a week

icebearforpresident · 22/06/2020 16:19

I’m in Scotland so schools aren’t back until August.

Both kids are in primary school, going into P3 & P1. School has been split into 2 groups made up of kids from all classes (so siblings can be in on the same days). Each group is in 2 days with the kids who need extra support going in on a Friday. Home learning on the days they aren’t in school.

Scottish government is getting a lot of pressure to be back to full time education in August as long as the situation doesn’t worsen. Our summer holidays start this week so I don’t think anyone expected they would be back before the summer but personally I was hoping schools would go back in July to try and make up some of the missed time.

GoneFishingAgain · 22/06/2020 16:21

I'm in Scotland so schools finish this week for summer. We've been told they'll go back a week earlier than planned in mod August, 2 days per week.

wendz86 · 22/06/2020 16:24

From today nursery - year 2 and years 5 and 6 in (only years not in are 3 and 4). 2 days a week for all years full days.

897654321abcvrufhfgg · 22/06/2020 16:28

Nursery, R,1&6 full time Monday to Friday plus my yesrc12 has 3 hours once a week

seenbeensbean · 22/06/2020 16:47

High School - years 10 and 12 in for lessons in all subjects they are taking plus key worker children.
Primary - Reception, Yr 1, Yr 6 plus key worker children in all day every day with staggered collection and drop off times.

Pippapotomus · 22/06/2020 16:50

Our school usually has 2 classes of 32 for all of the year groups.

School offered a Monday and a Tuesday. Uptake to come back at the start of June was very low, there was 1 bubble for each year, none of which were full. Keyworker children stayed in their mixed year bubbles.

Gradually the bubbles all filled, and the school is unable to create more. Yr1 WhatsApp is currently a riot, it went from 'my children aren't guinea pigs' and 'I actually like spending time with my kids' to 'they won't take them back' and 'they're being denied an education'.

We've been blessed with tropical weather each Monday and Tuesday this month. Each day has been a picnic lunch outside, work outside under a gazebo and PE afternoons. The younger years have been doing lots of mental health positivity. My Yr 1&6 DC are much happier being back.

ElephantGlove · 22/06/2020 17:28

Primary been back full classes (Except for the first 2 days) all years for 6 weeks now.
Staggered break times, no PE indoors. Staircase has an up and a down side. Pupils asked to keep 2m from teacher if possible. Clearly not in the UK Grin

Greylife · 22/06/2020 20:31

Seems like a really mixed bag then!

Vulnerable and keyworker in full time no wrap around care.
Nursery reception year 1 and year 6 in four days a week no wrap around care.
Inviting year 5 from next week for four days also.

High school offering year 10 one day a week

Hibbetyhob · 22/06/2020 20:36

3 key worker bubbles. R back full time (2 bubbles), yr1 full time (1 bubble), y6 back 3 days per week, 2 bubbles so each bubble only in once a fortnight.

They’ve done the absolute best they can with the space & resources available to them. Still very good provision of online / paper work for those at home and feedback provided for everything, daily contact from usual teachers as well.

mamaduckbone · 22/06/2020 20:40

My school - YR, Y1, Y6 in 4 days a week from June 1st - Friday closed for deep cleaning and setting work / contact with online learners.

My ds's school - YR, Y1, Y6 all now back full time but it's been a staggered start so Y6 only started back today.

The main difference is the size of the school - Ds's is 4 times the size of mine so much more to sort out logistically, but also more staff to manage it all.

In both, key worker and vulnerable children have been in all the way through, including holidays.

SillyBub · 22/06/2020 20:43

R, 1 & 6 - all of these year groups are allowed back, currently about 60% attending and open 4½ days a week. Friday pm is for planning. Also 4 x keyworker bubbles for 5 full days, maximum of 60 kids, averaging 45/50 attending each day. It's a big 4 form entry primary school.
