How is your school operating?

Curious as to how different schools are operating at the moment for the years allowed to go back and what’s ‘normal’?

My DC’s school are open to years reception, 1 and 6 and each bubble is in 2 days a week for 5 hours.

Scotland here. P1 and P4 children, they will be going in two days a week in August. Although their teachers think it likely it'll be back to normal by then - I hope so!

BangingOn · 22/06/2020 20:49

R, Y1, Y6 and KW are in 5 days a week in bubbles of 10 with places for all those who wanted one. A full online timetable with live teaching for all those not returning. No wraparound is operating but holiday club will be if there is enough demand.

Children outside of these year groups will each come in for one day before the end of term to meet their teacher for next year.

EYFS, yr1 and yr6 plus keyworker children in all day every day. Staggered start and finish, member of staff meeting and greeting to check on general health. PE weekly. KS2 daily work set through a learning platform, feedback given within a day or two. Tasks differentiated and most of the curriculum is being covered. KS1 and EYFS learning set through Tapestry, activities encouraging learning through play and practical work. Comments made in response to work sent in by parents. Groups capped at 9.

Yr10- in school 1 day in 4, covers all subjects over 3 dats in school- more time in maths and English. Groups of about 7. Work has been set throughout, with google hangouts used.

We are in wales so headlines are ‘all kids going back to school on 29th June’
In reality by secondary age year 7 and 8 year olds are each going back for 2.5 hours once a week and year 5 primary DS is going back 5 hours once a week.

Drivingdownthe101 · 22/06/2020 20:57

Yr R, 1, 5 and 6 full time. Y2 starting back full time next week. Yr 3 and 4 will be in for the last week of term.

hiredandsqueak · 22/06/2020 21:21

Independent specialist so classes of four students is the norm anyway Students in their own classes with their usual staff in the most part. They are starting half an hour later and finishing half an hour earlier so that students not attending can be contacted.
Lessons have been largely unaltered other than the one day each week usually spent on the school farm isn't happening because of travel arrangements.

happypotamus · 22/06/2020 22:05

Reception started back last week, year 1 and 6 the week before, in bubbles of 8 for 1 day a week each. I don't know what work they are doing in their 1 day a week or what percentage returned, as my Reception aged child is in a seperate keyworker bubble so doesn't get to see her friends. I think, from what my DC tell me, there are 3 keyworker bubbles split by age now but there were a lot less earlier in lockdown.

scissy · 22/06/2020 22:13

DD's primary has all year groups in now pt in year group bubbles plus additional KW bubbles. Each group (apart from KW) gets 2 days a week, plus work being set online every 2 weeks on various platforms (E.g.
Mymaths)

Jazzmin · 22/06/2020 22:23

Independent prep school in England, all children back this week, full time, until the end of term. Plenty of space and extra teachers to ensure bubbles of 15. Other prep schools in area have been back several weeks now.

Flipflopsaga · 22/06/2020 23:10

We have a maximum of 12 children per class. We have 2 members of staff in each class. We now have 2 classes of reception children, 2 classes of year 1, one class of year 6, a class of early years and reception children and two classes of the children of key workers. I love being back at work. So lovely to see the children and staff again. What a lovely atmosphere in the school! I watched the children coming into school this morning and they were honestly skipping and running in. Due to Government guidelines, many hadn’t attended in months. All the staff were so happy to see the children and we are terribly fortunate that the good weather lets us all spend a lot of time outside!

Flipflopsaga · 22/06/2020 23:11

Sorry, meant to say that this is 5 days a week, normal school hours.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 22/06/2020 23:19

Wales here.

It's a really mixed bag between different schools.

We are having 1/4 of the class back a day on a set day each week for the next 3 weeks - was supposed to be 4 weeks but the gov have had to step back from wanting schools to stay open for the additional week due to union issues (not just school unions). Each child will get 18 hours in school.

My friend's child's school had decided to have the kids in for half a day, for four days in one week. Then the next week it was a different group of children in for the 4 days. This was great until they cancelled the 4th week so I suspect they will now be deciding how to accommodate the 4th group within the 3 weeks without disappointing some of them. Tricky when we have to work with social distancing rules, which means I can get 7 children in my class. Each child will get 12 hours in school across their 4 days, then be off again until Sept.

My DD's high school is offering one half a day to each year group. With staggered starts and finishes. She's doing ok with the online stuff so she's not going back for the sake of 3 x 3hours of school time.

2pinkginsplease · 22/06/2020 23:19

High school in Scotland here and are working on morning or afternoon sessions, for the first 3 weeks back in August and then they will review it,

Dd is 6th year and she is in :
week 1, 3 mornings to help with its year transitions
Week 2, 3 afternoon sessions
Week 3, 2 afternoon sessions.

So basically in school 4 full days across 3 weeks which doesn’t seem very much at all.

The rest home learning,

Thanosatemthamster · 22/06/2020 23:27

Scottish primary, one day a week from August with two days every third week.

Lickyicelollies · 23/06/2020 06:45

In Scotland so schools "open" in August and my DD will be in P4 two days a week. My other DD was in full time council nursery and we still haven't been told when that will open.

I am so so angry about my children being denied a proper education. I've emailed MSPs and joined the Us for Them campaign but still feel powerless and consumed with fury right now.

Chrisinthemorning · 23/06/2020 07:08

Independent prep school.
Nursery, reception, Y1 and Y6 back 8th June, full time.
Y2 and Y5 back 15th
Y3 and Y4 back yesterday
4 days a week, staggered start and finish, packed lunches
Some classes are 15 or less anyway, some are split- using Science room, computer room, gym etc.

yomellamoHelly · 23/06/2020 07:19

Primary: Y1 and Y6 back. (Plus keyworkers dc in their own bubbles). Max bubble = 11 (classrooms all quite small). All classrooms being used. All teachers bar 3 "teaching". Staggered everything. Shut Wednesdays for a deep clean.
DD gets told to wash her hands x5 a day and says the work is like "school lite" and is enjoying the skive. Was never going to be doing much once the SATS were over though anyway. Stuff set for home-schooling was pretty poor and stressful, so its a relief for both of us in that respect.

Angelonia · 23/06/2020 07:21

Primary - all years in for two days a week
Secondary - none in at all

BarbedBloom · 23/06/2020 07:25

Ours is still closed as far as I know, though they are hoping to open at some point soon. We are in Wales. They have a few staff shielding or with shielding family members, some who still have no childcare and two who have gone off on maternity - the supply teachers have dropped out. They couldn't even offer keyworker kids a place and they had to go to local hubs.

As far as I know they are trying to source supply now, but there is a general recruitment issue in my area and has been for a while. I don't have any kids of my own but my sibling's children probably won't be going back before the summer holidays by the look of it - school is tiny.

LooksLikeImStuckHere · 23/06/2020 07:27

UK Primary, mainstream.

All years back in on part time basis, classes split in half. Home learning provided for those who haven’t returned.

It’s working very well so far.

PotteringAlong · 23/06/2020 07:27

In my children’s school - Reception, year 1 and year 6 back full time. 2 Key worker bubbles.

In my school - year 10 and year 12 back 2 days a fortnight (year group split into 4) with years 9 / 8 / 7 back 2 days a fortnight from next week.

Chrisinthemorning · 23/06/2020 07:41

DS says he washed his hands 11 times yesterday- some of those at home though! I am hand creaming him before bed.
We found out this week we’re getting a discount off next term (no discount as yet) and feeling pretty lucky.
