Places to walk Lancashire Preston way!

Hi everyone could anyone recommend nice places to go with a child and pram for walks & picnic within an hours drive of Preston? 😄 preferably with postcode 😆

Don't mind going a bit further if its really nice 👍🏻

OP posts:

Along the coast at lytham or Fleetwood, beacon fell, brock bottoms, Nicky nook, Rivington pike. You could also have a look at the Tolkien Trail near Clitheroe, our favourite place is Bolton Abbey but that's a bit further afield.

thatcarolebaskinbitch · 21/06/2020 19:32

You could also look at silverdale/arnside/grange over sands.

AuntyFungal · 21/06/2020 19:36

I was going to suggest Rivington but it looks like it’s shut to drivers - ok though if you’re local and can get there on foot. Perhaps in the future OP. You’ll never get a pushchair up the terraced gardens...

Liverbird77 · 21/06/2020 19:51

What about Brockholes?

Tuesday40 · 21/06/2020 20:04

St Anne’s prom, Nicky nook, hesketh out marsh, a section of the guild wheel (20+ miles in total), some one above suggested Tolkien trail which is a gorgeous walk, Mere Sands Woods, Tockholes.

northender · 21/06/2020 20:06

Lytham/St Annes is good with a pram as is Brockholes. Brock Bottoms, Beacon Fell & Nicky Nook would all be difficult unless it's an all terrain pushchair.
I'll see if I can think of any other ideas.

northender · 21/06/2020 20:08

Tolkein Trail is lovely, but again not with a pram
Tarn Hows in the Lake district is probably about an hour away and is definitely pram friendly.

northender · 21/06/2020 20:12

This gives some short accessible walks round Silverdale & Arnside which is lovely & about a 40 min drive. Leighton Moss is an RSPB centre at Silverdale & is good for walks & picnics.

PheasantPlucker1 · 21/06/2020 20:18

Rivingtons still open, you can park up by rivington barn

Theres also Worden Park and Astley Park which have wooded walks round.

winterisstillcoming · 21/06/2020 20:22

Are ingleton falls open?

thatcarolebaskinbitch · 21/06/2020 20:27

Also Formby beach

homemadecommunistrussia · 21/06/2020 20:28

Aren't Ingleton and Bolton Abbey in North York's? rather far from Preston.
Waddington is rather lovely, with the little stream. Or Slaidburn?

Ginfilledcats · 21/06/2020 20:29

The Fairy Glen bear Appley Bridge but you'd need an off road buggy.

Ingleton waterfalls is great but absolutely not buggy friendly!!! Kid in backpack maybe but I personally wouldn't risk it - steep steps and wet!

WokeJokeOpus · 21/06/2020 20:33

Bolton Abbey ticketed at the moment, I think.
Cuerden Valley Park is just outside Preston. Small, but good paths and a picnic area.
Astley Park
Jumbles Reservoir (not got a picnic area, just a couple of benches outside the cafe).

thatcarolebaskinbitch · 21/06/2020 20:39

Bolton Abbey is only just passed skipton so definitely not 'north' York's! Exactly an hour from Preston according to google maps.

thatcarolebaskinbitch · 21/06/2020 20:39

Oops past*!

Tuesday40 · 21/06/2020 20:50

Just thought of another - glasson dock- dead flat, loads of picnic benches and you can even walk to Lancaster if you like.

Devlesko · 21/06/2020 20:53

Pendle Hill - Lancaster if you really want a walk Grin
Not sure what is open but the hills have lots of history with the witches.
Friend of mine found out her ancestor was a pendle witch.

PaperMonster · 21/06/2020 20:53

Brockholes, Ingleborough trail at Clapham N Yorks, Bolton Abbey - think you have to book first at the mo.

PaperMonster · 21/06/2020 20:54

Actually, I think Skipton Woods is ok with a pram.

astiwilldo · 21/06/2020 20:59

Don’t go to Lytham. Thousands of people on the green. Horrible.

Ilikefresias · 22/06/2020 07:13

Crosby beach is lovely, iron man statues there

Shanghaisue · 22/06/2020 07:38

Hardcastle craggs at hebden bridge Skipton woods defo have to book for bolton abbey but it is worth it as not too busy even on a lovely day Tatton park Lyme park and Dunham massey

GuyFawkesDay · 22/06/2020 07:41

Wycoller
Beacon Fell (though tends to be a high twat quotient up there)
Rivington Pike/Angkezarke but not sure how pushchair friendly this is other than up by the barns.
Formby (has been super busy though)

Or more locally, Brockholes.
Brickcroft nature reserve, Longton (go to the bakery over the road too for treats)

ErrolTheDragon · 22/06/2020 08:18

Not forgetting Miller and Avenham parks plus the miles of paths through the local nature reserve on the other side of the river.

Quite a few of the places mentioned aren't at all suitable for prams and/or have very limited parking - I really wouldn't recommend trying to go to Nicky nook with a pramConfused but do keep them in mind for when your DC is a bit older!

We had some 'walks with children' books when DD was small, I don't think there was one for Lancashire but it might be worth looking at
