Can you recommend a cook book?

Lockdown has meant that I’ve worked my way through my repertoire of recipes and can’t find any more inspiration in the cook books I have

Can you recommend any new ones for me? Prefer ones that don’t have a gazillion ingredients in each recipe. Any cuisine. Thanks

Dishoom - it's a travel/history book, cook book and work of art all at once. Can't wait to be able to entertain again so I can try some of the recipes out (single parent and kids wouldn't appreciate half the stuff in there despite being quite diverse eaters)

vampirethriller · 21/06/2020 16:16

Hairy Bikers are good. I like Lalita Ahmed Indian Cooking too, it's old but you can get it on eBay for a couple of quid.

BernardoTeashop · 21/06/2020 16:28

Thanks for those suggestions. Love Indian food - off to check out eBay

I swear by Nigella's Express. Quick and easy and taste good!

I’m definitely interested In Nigellas express. I’ve got her How to Cook but it’s all a bit fancy for every day. What’s your favourite recipes from it?

Anything by Meera Sodha or Anna Jones.

If you like Indian food - definitely Fresh India.

Nacreous · 21/06/2020 18:37

I like "from the oven to the table" by I think Diana Henry. Quite a lot of ingredients but mainly shove it in the oven recipes so I don't mind that.

I also like nigella express actually, I often do the mirin glazed salmon, and the lazy loaf goes down well, but also keeps well. Also like the potato and mushroom gratin and the cheese fondue, as well as quite a few other things.

RumpyTurman · 21/06/2020 18:39

Another vote for Dishoom!

Pashazade · 21/06/2020 18:57

I love Nigella's stuff. Also just bought the Pleesecakes cheesecake recipe book, pure indulgence!

Easy meals by Rachel Allen. Does what it says on the cover.

Mumteedum · 21/06/2020 19:06

Not a pretty book but best one I've ever had. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0752519182/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Uf67EbBQ34X9T?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

the cook's companion by Stephanie Alexander ( Oz chef )
Its laid out A-Z by ingredient ie A for Apple starts with a history of the fruit then few pages of recipes where its the star.
Not cooked from it ,yet .[shock
Also has everything cross-ref.
Pages are white paper with odd page photo - no silly brown on purple fonts everywhere .

Otherwise Monet's Table -the cooking jounals of Claude Monet ( the painter ) lots of very french food, i would love to cook but many need chervil, crayfish butter etc - which you can not easily buy.
But nice photos of posh tablewear .

exexpat · 21/06/2020 22:00

Any of the roasting tin books by Rukmini Iyer.

I have the veggie ('green') one, and I gave my BiL the quick one for Christmas. They are lots of creative suggestions for really quick and easy chuck-everything-in-one-tin-and-roast-it recipes.

HDready · 21/06/2020 22:01

Another vote for Fresh India. The roasting tin books are good too - particularly the vegetarian one

brakethree · 21/06/2020 22:02

ottelenghi simple
I had seen lots of recommendations for this on mumsnet and received it has a christmas gift. It really is full of deliciously simple recipes.

Boopear · 21/06/2020 22:03

The roasting tin books are really great. Just throw things in a roasting tin and you get a delicious meal. The veggie (green book) ones are amazing.
