Stupid question - but how do you iron bedding?

Yes I know - am almost 49 and have never in my life ironed a sheet, duvet cover etc. In general I don’t iron at all.
However at the moment washing line is broken and have been stuffing the bedding into the drier and it’s coming out particularly wrinkled.
So - is there a magic way of ironing bedding easily?

Are you taking them out straight away? If you leave things to sit in the dryer they will crease. If you let the duke end naturally (which should have a bit of a cool down at the end) they should have less creases than line dried stuff.

The whole reason I use my dryer all year round is to save ironing Grin

My bedding never needs an iron Blush

I have no idea why!

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 21/06/2020 09:15

Sheets and duvet covers don't iron.

Pillow cases are the easiest thing ever to iron. So iron those to break up the monotony of ironing other stuff

I used to use bannisters but our house now doesn’t have them (hard to explain but there’s basically a wall there instead). But I do have an old clothes rail in the spare room so may use that!

I've always ironed bedding.

vodkaredbullgirl · 21/06/2020 09:23

Ironing whats that lol, not ironed for years.

AlovelybitofsquirrelJackie · 21/06/2020 09:23

I don't iron my bedding as it doesn't need it but a million years ago when I was a chambermaid we put the duvet cover on the duvet and ironed it on the bed itself

MyEnormousTurnip · 21/06/2020 09:24

I always iron bedding too. Not sheets though. I fold the duvet cover in half and do each side.

The way I see it is what’s the point of decorating your bedroom nicely and having it the way you like only to have wrinkled bedding?

TimeWastingButFun · 21/06/2020 09:24

My husband irons the bedding although if it's a nice day and I can line dry it and save him the job. He usually folds into 4 then irons it that way, turning the folds around to get all the sides.

Pinkblueberry · 21/06/2020 09:26

I also don’t iron bedding. I fold it Marie Kondo style after being washed so it’s not too creased in the cupboard and then find the creases disappear after a day of making the bed anyway.

HotCrossBungle · 21/06/2020 09:26

No!

Baaaahhhhh · 21/06/2020 09:29

Blimey. I've obviously wasted my life. I iron pretty much everything.

I can't imagine not ironing bedding. Perhaps because I only have 100% cotton or linen, but it just can't not be ironed. It would look awful. Hanging it on the washing line makes less creases but even then it still needs a quick iron on maximum heat with lots of steam.

AuntieMarys · 21/06/2020 09:29

You pay someone. Thats what I do.

Life is too short. Ours go to laundry.

justforthecake · 21/06/2020 09:33

Life is too short for ironing bedding

crosser62 · 21/06/2020 09:33

Nope.
Just nope.
Fix your washing line as a matter of emergency ! Smile

CountFosco · 21/06/2020 09:33

I ironed DD1's school shirts at the beginning of lockdown and took a ceremonial photo to record I wasn't going to do any ironing for 6 months so I may be the wrong person to comment.

I have not ironed sheets since I left home. My Mum always irons them. It is lovely getting into a bed with ironed sheets. As PPs said it's easy, you just fold and iron, same as you do with tablecloths. I do iron tablecloths but I only use them when wehave guests at Christmas. And since they are linen they maintain certain crinkled style even after ironing.

bumblingbovine49 · 21/06/2020 09:34

I've tried ironing duvets and fitted sheets buy it seems.to take ages. King size duvets folded in half are still enormous. I find they early look any better after I've ironed them than when I started anyway so I've given up. I don't even iron pillowcases any more though I did used to sometimes. Just can't be arsed any more for some reason

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 21/06/2020 09:34

pillowcases only here, and then only if i am really looking for something to do ...or we have Class 1 visitors. (DM/DMIL/Stranger) :o

Immigrantsong · 21/06/2020 09:34

I let the steam do the work. And tend to buy non iron bed sheets from now on.

AriettyHomily · 21/06/2020 09:35

I take it for a service wash and they do it.

FurbabyLife · 21/06/2020 09:39

My housekeeper does it! 😂

The80sweregreat · 21/06/2020 09:40

If it's a cotton duvet I tend to put it on the bed then iron it on a low setting ! I can do this in my bedroom as the plug for the iron is close to the bed and then unplug it for the areas it doesn't reach! It's not perfect but better than trying to feed the duvet cover over the ironing board.
Be careful doing it this way and cotton ones tend to come up looking ok.

SunshinePeekingThrough · 21/06/2020 09:42

I fold my sheets (note they are flat sheets) in half and then half again so that I can for the width on the ironing board. I then iron both sides fold again and iron again both sides. I love ironed sheets

chipsandpeas · 21/06/2020 09:42

i rarely iron bedding, and if i do i make the bed up and iron then
