Stupid question - but how do you iron bedding?

Yes I know - am almost 49 and have never in my life ironed a sheet, duvet cover etc. In general I don’t iron at all.
However at the moment washing line is broken and have been stuffing the bedding into the drier and it’s coming out particularly wrinkled.
So - is there a magic way of ironing bedding easily?

...you don't.

Not helpful, but I don't, and wouldn't do it no matter how wrinkly 😁. Unless you have guests sleeping over.

I tried one and gave up

Say what? Ironing bedding is a thing?

Itsmemaggie · 21/06/2020 08:50

I’m not really an ironer but I do love sleeping on ironed sheets. It’s an added bonus that they go into the drawers more easily when they’re ironed too.

I fold the duvet into quarters and then each quarter in turn. With the fitted sheets I tuck the corners into each other and then iron the middle but only.

TigerDroveAgain · 21/06/2020 08:50

I use an ironing service for this very reason!

Smellbellina · 21/06/2020 08:53

I knew someone who put it on the bed and then ironed, seems like it could be genius? I just use the tumble dryer, take it out immediately flick it about and put it straight back on the bed. Not quite ironed but good as.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 21/06/2020 08:55

People who iron bedding have too much time on their hands 😀

Goingtogetflamed · 21/06/2020 08:55

It sounds like you’re putting too much in your dryer at once and maybe over-drying it. Could you split the load into 2 and then dry it until it is almost dry (like 95%) and air it over something for the last bit?
I’d do anything to avoid ironing bedding!!

DDiva · 21/06/2020 08:57

Lifescto shirt to iron bedding. But then I only get the iron out for weddings and funerals......

DDiva · 21/06/2020 08:58

Lifes to short !

Carolbaskinstiger · 21/06/2020 08:59

@Smellbellina it could be genius or it could be the path to a huge hole in the sheet.., am wondering if putting it on the bed and wafting the steam mop near it would do the trick! Grin

Only if I'm having visitors to stay. Otherwise, no. Life is too short.

Carolbaskinstiger · 21/06/2020 09:02

@Itsmemaggie so do you mean like folded over each other? So you’re essentially ironing all 4 quarters at once?

OP posts:
Topseyt · 21/06/2020 09:02

You just don't bother.

I don't iron anything.

megletthesecond · 21/06/2020 09:05

You never iron bedding.

CormoranStrike · 21/06/2020 09:05

I’ve never tried!

user1498572889 · 21/06/2020 09:06

Every time it’s washed. I know I know. I like ironing 🤣

Barbthebuilder · 21/06/2020 09:07

Fold in half lengthways. Iron one half, turn over and iron other. So you only iron one side, if you see what I mean? If your iron is reasonable you don't need to unfold, refold and iron the other side. My mum does that but she's hardcore. Takes 2 minutes and is soooooo much nicer than non-ironed sheets.

Carolbaskinstiger · 21/06/2020 09:09

@Barbthebuilder that is perfect advice - thank you!

PiggyPlumPie · 21/06/2020 09:10

Don't bother but I have huge banisters so I just hang them over that to dry, fold and then straight in the airing cupboard.

After you've slept in the bed one night, you don't notice.

TedsFederationRep · 21/06/2020 09:11

I iron the pillowcases but not the duvet cover or fitted sheet. Line drying is best but I realise your washing line is broken, OP, so here is my winter/rainy days method.

Don't overload the tumble dryer.
Take the duvet cover and bottom sheet out of the dryer when they are nearly dry but not completely.
Fold in half or in four long lines.
Hang over the top banister or any similar rail (if you have one) till the next day. I sometimes use the middle bit of the curtain pole too.

They will look reasonably (but not perfectly) ironed.

okiedokieme · 21/06/2020 09:11

Never iron sheets, tumble dry and put on bed, who cares about creases

TedsFederationRep · 21/06/2020 09:13

Cross-posted with PiggyPlumPie!

I've been using this system for years. Even guests think I iron everything Grin
