Should I get highlights?

I'm considering getting highlights when the salon open, but I think I'm too old now tbh.
What colours do people have?
Are they acceptable in a professional job?
Do they still look good when your hair is in a ponytail?

Too old? Confused My mum's 80 and still has highlights...

Laurathesupermum · 20/06/2020 19:56

@titchy

Oh ok, perhaps I'm not too old at 32 then.

Are you talking about blonde highlights?

Are they acceptable in a professional job? My companys policy only says no "extreme hairstyles".

OP posts:
MobLife · 20/06/2020 20:15

Op, highlights aren't an 'extreme' hairstyle!

Laurathesupermum · 20/06/2020 20:15

@MobLife

Good.

What is your profession? Surely there are other women with highlights in a similar role? They are very popular.

formerbabe · 20/06/2020 20:19

It's never occurred to me that you could be too old for highlights...my nearly 80 year old aunt still gets them.

dementedpixie · 20/06/2020 20:20

I have highlights and I'm 46 Hmm. I actually get highlights and some lowlights. Is there an age limit I wasn't aware of?

Laurathesupermum · 20/06/2020 20:21

@Cuddling57

I work in an in-house legal team for a major UK company.

Love, half the women you work with have highlights. They're hardly extreme, unless you have fluorescent pink ones. Hmm

winterisstillcoming · 20/06/2020 20:23

In the nicest possible way, just look around you at people at work to see what's acceptable?

Laurathesupermum · 20/06/2020 20:28

@titchy

Well I'm not having pink ones anyway.

OP posts:
Laurathesupermum · 20/06/2020 20:29

@winterisstillcoming

In my department one person has highlights and another has lowlights.

OP posts:
titchy · 20/06/2020 20:33

So you know they're acceptable then...

Laurathesupermum · 20/06/2020 20:34

@titchy

Senior management do tend to frown about it sometimes though. In external meetings.

Very acceptable. If you want to wear a ponytail ask your hairdresser to put some foils at the back of your hair on the neckline. You can have a full head of highlights if you like plaiting your hair as these are spread throughout the whole head.

Burpalot · 20/06/2020 20:38

Do you have eyes op? If so, you could use them and LOOK around you

Laurathesupermum · 20/06/2020 20:39

@bluewavescrashing

Yes, I always wear my hair in a ponytail at work.
What is the difference between full head and half or partial?
Sorry I don't know anything about highlights.

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 20/06/2020 20:41

Full head means highlights distributed throughout all of the hair. Half head leaves the underneath unhighlighted - highlights taken down to about ear level. T Bar is parting and fringe

dementedpixie · 20/06/2020 20:42

I normally alternate between full head and Tbar with some foils put in at the hairline at the sides and back as I wear my hair up for the gym
