How can DC have a sick bug??!

With all the hand washing and distancing going on?! DC1 threw up Wednesday eve. Put down to anxiety (ongoing and reasonable explanation). DC3 has just woken with explosive diarrhea and now feels sick and dizzy

I’m baffled

How old are they - could it be something they've eaten? My toddler was very sick a few months ago with no obvious cause, it turned out he'd eaten some nice shiny berries off a bush in our new garden (we'd just moved house and I hadn't spotted them).

SephrinaX · 19/06/2020 23:31

I would guess something he's eaten then.

Camomila · 19/06/2020 23:32

If you are still going out for walks they might have accidentally touched something germy like rabbit poo etc?
Or they've eaten something off and the effects have taken longer to show up for one DC.

Could be something they ate. D&V is also very contagious so unless your DC are being scrupulous about hand hygiene then it could float about. Some bugs can be generated by toilet flushing with the seat up.
I don't know what age your DC are OP, but mine are primary school age and I consider their hand hygiene questionable despite all the hand washing.

Timeforanotherusername · 19/06/2020 23:33

we've had more sick in Lockdown that the previous couple of years.

It has mainly been due to allowing them to over indulge. Our fault completely but maybe the homemade rich foods were a bit too much

Timeforanotherusername · 19/06/2020 23:34

and i think I read that Norovirus can last on surfaces for months.

HeyAllYouCoolCatsNKittens · 19/06/2020 23:35

My DD got slapped cheek syndrome from one trip to Tesco! It's bewildering isn't it?

AnaisAna · 19/06/2020 23:44

Oldest not in school, youngest two are.

Oldest was in the river on Tuesday, sick on the Weds. could that be the cause?

Or touching their bum, then their mouth, like children do............

AnaisAna · 19/06/2020 23:47

He’s 9 so pretty good at hygiene

Megan2018 · 19/06/2020 23:48

A river could definitely do it.There’s lots of potential nasties in water.
But we got Noro (2 adults) in self isolation so who knows.

AnaisAna · 19/06/2020 23:48

And then that could pass to another child?

I was ill for three weeks with stomach pains & the runs, having been absolutely nowhere. Totally baffling!

AnaisAna · 19/06/2020 23:54

I don’t need to be running to get a Covid test then ... obvs 48hrs but should we isolate longer?

AnaisAna · 19/06/2020 23:54

So obsessed with Covid every other illness has been long forgotten Blush

Sittinonthefloor · 19/06/2020 23:56

We’ve had colds from somewhere - hadn’t been anywhere for two weeks at the time.

Applesandpears23 · 19/06/2020 23:58

Covid test is a good idea just to rule it out.

TotalEclipseOfTheHeartAndSoul · 19/06/2020 23:58

My 10 year old had a high temperature and vomiting this week. DH and I have recently felt unwell with symptoms but not a high temperature or cough. I'm still going to work. There are definitely still things out there that are not covid.

Fatted · 19/06/2020 23:58

OP, talk about a major drip feed. Of course it's from going into the river! There's all sorts of nasty little bugs and germs swarming in there!!

Myneighboursnorlax · 20/06/2020 00:00

I’d be blaming the river

ComDummings · 20/06/2020 00:00

I’d say from the river, yes.

AnaisAna · 20/06/2020 00:03

I didn’t consider the river as DC1 been feeling sick most days due to anxiety and Wednesday was a particularly stressful day. Also DC3 didn’t go to the river.

I should get a test then? Is it awful? DC3 hopeless with anything medical and can’t imagine he will let anyone near him with a swab. Is it too late for DC1?

WildImaginings · 20/06/2020 00:05

I've been absolutely nowhere (and I mean nowhere) for months.
Yesterday I had all the symptoms of a stomach bug. I also don't eat meat and had eaten some fairly innocuous food on the day/the day before, so no idea where it came from Confused

thaegumathteth · 20/06/2020 00:07

@TotalEclipseOfTheHeartAndSoul whilst I agree not everything is Covid (evidences by tests done versus positive results) have you had your ds tested and all of you isolated in the meantime? because you should have due to his temperature.

GreenPlum · 20/06/2020 00:12

My niece and her friend were really sick after swimming in the river a couple of weeks ago.
