I hope this unimaginative thread title doesn't put off all the amazing posters from this group!

As we transition into this new phase things could get interesting....

The categories would be such a good idea. I would definitely be in the highest andbi think that makes a difference. I have friends shielding becuase if other reasons and they aren't too worried, gone back to work etc. If I was then I don't think I would be worried either. I just feel vulnerable.
Yes I am going to speak to my consultant. I am just going to wait a week or so Asbi suspect they will get a lot of phone calls today. She did a conference call last week and basically said that it wouldn't be safe for us until we had a vaccine and if we worked in schools or hospitals we should seriously re think that if there is no vaccine. And that was just last week, and the government seem to be saying it's fine! I really want to go to my job in Sept but I just can't see how it is safe.

Madhairday · 23/06/2020 13:46

I got my letter too this morning setting out the next steps, also says I remain on the shielding list and must stick to guidelines rigorously as much as possible. I wonder if anyone is getting letters saying they won't be on the list anymore?

Lol at the guardian letter 😂

Onmyown1 · 23/06/2020 14:37

Just received my letter too. The part where it says you should remain cautious as you are still at risk of severe illness if you catch coronavirus, so the advice is to stay at home where possible and if you do go out follow strict social distancing.
That’s not worded as we are safe to go out.

finished31 · 23/06/2020 14:38

@IrisJoy it states in the letter to still strictly social distance. I'm not sure how you can do that. I've also had a transplant and scared shitless!

We are still in the very high risk group and need to be careful. I was on the understanding that if workplaces cannot accommodate the rule then surely furlough (until October) should apply.

IrisJoy · 23/06/2020 14:46

That's what I would hope @finished31 but there was some suggestion that schools are seem as different as social distancing can't be done there. I hope that means we are not expected to go back yet, much as I would like to go back in Sept with everyone else.

finished31 · 23/06/2020 14:57

@IrisJoy I think your LEA will need to risk assess for you. I'm sure the decision will be made already.

Stay safe. I miss my teaching days. Very hard but rewarding.

IrisJoy · 23/06/2020 15:13

Thank you @finished31 I have emailed my head today so presumably she will start looking into it.
Stay safe.

LucyTrainsDragons · 23/06/2020 16:51

No letter here yet!

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 23/06/2020 16:59

Can I ask a question? I am confused.
I'm shielding (had letter) so I can go out for a walk and in a fortnight I can go and see someone if we sit outside 2m apart. I'm not on my own so no bubble. But as of the 4th everyone else can go out and be 1m away from everyone else.
How do I manage to make people stay 2m away if I'm out for a walk now?

rugbymummy · 23/06/2020 17:22

Thank goodness @LucyTrainsDragons! I thought it was just me he’d left out 😂
@Pastmybest - I read it as from 4th everyone is 1m so when we meet up with 5 others from 6th (in theory) it’s 1m too. Extremely happy to be told I’m wrong!

WwMILd · 23/06/2020 17:29

@PastMyBestBeforeDate
Simple answer - you can’t!

We go out sillyoclock in morning as have a dog that needs walking. First time today went too late, and had to do lots of avoidance - and that was getting home by 7.30!
You need to know your area and where the ‘pinch points’ are, and avoid at all costs.

WwMILd · 23/06/2020 17:34

The 2m/1m thing I haven’t a clue about!

DS came around and we keep more than that anyway. I think now it’s down to advice people get from their consultants/doctors.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 23/06/2020 17:41

Thanks both. rugby I hadn't considered that the 1m applied to us too.
WwMILd the pinch point is on our way out of our estate so I'm a bit stuck. The local children have been out blocking the road and playing for weeks now (while mine are stuck in). I don't plan on going out much but I now have visions of having to yell 'Shielding' at everyone if I do!

IrisJoy · 23/06/2020 17:53

@WwMILd that's exactly what we have been doing. Out at 5 and back by 6.30am latest. So worth it though as it means we can get out. There are a coupe of walks we can do that almost guarantee we won't see anyone, and if we do are very easy to distance, so we have been doing those and I am very grateful for them. We had friends walking the dogs for the first week but I decided that was riskier than doing it ourselves carefully.
I assumed it was 1m for us too, but I will be keeping as far away as possible! Tbh I don't think I will be doing much differently, apary from being less cautious with my parents, who are being very carefully anyway. My DDs can't wait to give granny a hug.

AuntieSocia1 · 23/06/2020 18:02

Schools to return full time in Scotland with no social distancing. My brain hurts I really don't know what to make of it.

I was feeling so comforted by the social distance measures that I thought would be in place

Sorry I'm not replying to anyone my head is absolutely frazzled but I'll be back to read properly soon. So much confusion all round 🤯

@rugbymummy fingers crossed ours will arrive within the next few days. Our post has been a bit hit and miss lately so time will tell.

UnholyStramash · 23/06/2020 20:53

Just caught up with my reading. Phew! There seems to be such confusion over what shielders can and can’t do, especially in England. I think a lot of people in pub and hotel industries must be so concerned that only the bampots (those who think covid19’s just a bad dream and anyway they’re invincible) will come into their pubs and bars. I’m sorry so many of you working in schools are so worried - I hope you get clearer guidance from your doctors and find a way to stay safe and/or keep your loved ones safe.

I didn’t catch what Chris Whitty said today - I can’t now find the clip. Surely he’s not totally happy about this change in guidance?

I too noticed @Marievonder (I need to look back for the correct name) hasn't been on this thread, not since Thread 2. I hope you’re okay, Marie. I ate my last posh custard cream today.

I’m feeling quite depressed about the political shenanigans, especially from WM gov. I’m relieved to be on the employment scrap heap and in Scotland so some of the concerns don’t apply to me. I haven’t been for a walk again since Thursday. Must try harder. Had a lovely phone chat with my sons today, heard some of it with some help from DH. I know it’s fairly trivial in the great scheme but I need audiology services to reopen as I need my hearing aids repaired. I’ve retubed one myself but the other needs a professional. I had an appointment the week lockdown started - it was cancelled.

BeyondDreamsOfBeyondFourWalls · 23/06/2020 21:02

ExH will be seeing the DCs for a week soon - he's booked an air b&b just on the English side in case welsh openings are delayed. He'll be the first customer there since March and will be self-isolating from now until he picks them up to be on the safe side.

Very glad that - for all his faults - he takes me shielding seriously.

Anewuser · 24/06/2020 05:21

Happy birthday @Redcherries

AuntieSocia1 · 24/06/2020 07:44

@MarieVanGoethem lots of your fellow shielders would like to check you are ok. You are such a star at replying to everyone and giving support but please don't worry if you are not up to that right now. We'd be happy to just support you though any difficult times.

Or maybe you've won the lottery and currently lounging on a remote Covid 19 free island 🌴 we can dream!!!! Gin

Thank you for tagging @marievangoethem. Marie - can you let us know how you are if you are feeling up to it? Hoping you are OK and just taking a break from MN.

Redcherries · 24/06/2020 08:44

Oh wow, I’m a little choked, reading through catching up and finding birthday wishes @Anewuser and @AuntieSocia1 thank you xx in bed with coffee at the moment, planning on doing some gardening this morning then bubbles and music in the garden. We had an Aldi fillet steak in the freezer so we ordered a couple more from the local butchers to have with dauphinois potatoes and asparagus, my favourite meal. Should have been touching down in Singapore at half ten this morning but it is what it is and we’ll have a lovely day.

The 1m thing, my understanding is it’s 1m plus and only in mitigating circumstances where 2 m can’t be observed but you must aim for people not to be face to face, this was already a guidance for construction as it can be impossible to keep people 2 metres apart without risking their health in other ways (for example lifting heavy items) So I’ll be introducing the rule that if they have to lift things together they must both face the same direction of away from each other.

Yesterday I introduced a new training system with various courses, they’ve all been asked to take ‘infection control’ ‘ppe’ and handwashing courses this week before we return to work on Monday. Bit worried that one of the team has been poorly and might get a diagnosis that puts them into vulnerable or shielded depending on medication. They won’t want to stop working so if it is the case we will have to work a plan out together. Maybe one of those big inflatable balls each 😂

What’s everyone got planned today? It’s soooo hot here already!

@BeyondDreamsOfBeyondFourWalls It’s good he takes it seriously, so many don’t! Will you enjoy the break?

@UnholyStramash that’s not a small thing! Of course you can be peeved and fed up about something that’s having a negative impact on you because of all this rubbish. I hope you are able to get it repaired soon x

@MarieVonGoethem also sending love, hopefully your just taking a break from the melting pot of mumsnet xx
