I hope this unimaginative thread title doesn't put off all the amazing posters from this group!

As we transition into this new phase things could get interesting....

Quite rightly so...the "guidance" being offered is pathetic. This offers no constructive support or advice to people like us. I'm bloody disgusted.

iVampire · 13/10/2020 17:15

This thread

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4049103-Calling-fellow-shielders-What-Whitty-just-said

is less annoying (I started it yesterday)

There are some sticks and carrots to employers, but generally more permitted than last time (daily exercise, some social contact outdoors)

Nothing for people like me - with a teenager in school who could bring it home with her

And a big hint that one day their might be a tier 4?

AuntieSocia1 · 13/10/2020 19:18

Feels like a case of you should be shielding but don't expect any additional support oh and also you can't blame us for your shitty mental health because we are not telling you directly to lock yourself away....

Feeling very cynical right now, can you tell!

OP posts:
Egghead68 · 13/10/2020 21:33

That sums it up, yes.

TeaLibrary · 13/10/2020 22:58

I just feel like we've been thrown under a bus by the government who blatantly don't give a monkeys about the vulnerable.

Outnumberedwoman · 13/10/2020 23:09

@AuntieSocia1 you havesummed it up perfectly. Here in NI and the meeting of the executive that was scheduled for 11am finally got under way at 9.30pm and was quickly adjourned due to members throwing barbs apparently. I mean if ot wasnt so serioys it would be laughable. They are like kids in a playground who would be told to stop mucking about and just get on with it. They need their heads bashing.

Meanwhile DC1 informed me that today he ate in the canteen as opposed to his classroom as they have been doing. He said there were 2 other classes in there. He was excited because he got to see some of his friends that he hasnt seen in different classes. Now i am left asking questions about not bursting bubbles and how if this is the case how are the kids possibly being kept safe? It has been playing on my mind all day. Is this why wwith only one positive case in the school two bubbles are isolating because they were mixing?

I think I need to have a word with the head tomorrow. If the stormont government wont stand up, get off the fence and make a decision then we as parents will have to do it. Of course then its all on us no matter what happens which is what they want - someone to blame. They cant be blamed when they didnt actually tell us to do anything.

Teaistheanswer · 17/10/2020 16:51

Hello allSmile been reading all your messages. Love and hugs to all going through difficult times. It certainly feels very frustrating at the moment all round.
I've been teaching all week to free up teachers to catch up with assessments etc so it's been a yo-yo from one class to another, absolutely shattered and very glad it's the weekend.
Feeling rather low as I'm about to celebrate a big birthday and like many of you before none of the plans I made will be happening Sad my DSis decided she would come to stay as all other plans cancelled but she is in a high risk area so I told her I don't feel comfortable with that. Now dealing with the fall-out as she thinks I am massively over reacting and I'm now receiving the full cold shoulder treatment. Great, add guilt trip to all the other negative emotions this stupid virus has brought. I'm of the opinion no-one understands what it feels like to be vulnerable unless they are Sad

Egghead68 · 17/10/2020 17:26

Sad She’s not allowed to come and stay with you if she’s in a higher risk area so you could just blame it on the government rules I guess.
Hope you have as happy a birthday as you can Cake WineFlowers

Outnumberedwoman · 18/10/2020 13:28

@Teaistheanswer its tough when even those closest don't understand how we are feeling. I hope she calms down when she stops and thinks about it and realises you are just following the rules and its nothing personal against her.

In NI the numbers of cases are shocking and the number of people on ventilators is steadily rising and scary. We are in a lockdown as such. Pubs and restaurants etc are all closed since Friday night. Close contact services such as hairdressers all closed too. But retail shops are all open. So everyone will be out packing the shopping centres no doubt!

Schools finally closed on Friday too for two weeks so we shall see if that makes a big difference although I fear it will be offset by families going shopping as there is nothing else to do so may aswell take the kids into town! I hope I am wrong.

Teaistheanswer · 18/10/2020 14:23

Thanks @egghead68 and @outnumberedwoman Smile
Feeling a bit better today. I'm sure she'll eventually come round but the more I thought about it I know I've done the right thing for me and my decision isn't harming anyone. She was obviously quite happy to ignore gov guidelines Hmm

Outnumberedwoman · 18/10/2020 14:50

@Teaistheanswer unfortunately you cant make people understand if they dont want to. Lots of similar problems here in NI this week and the associated debates have been firey.

Teaistheanswer · 18/10/2020 15:06

I hope the new measures make a difference @outnumberedwoman but your point about out of one place and into another sounds very possible. Let's hope people see it as a chance to break the chain of events and bring the numbers down.

BeyondsConstantBangingHeadache · 19/10/2020 11:53

Apparently we have an announcement in wales today for our circuit break lockdown. Still insisting that - even with that - there's no need to reshield though.

Going to go and have a McDonald's today before TSHTF again. First one this year

My blood pressure is still uncontrolled, no one tell my nurse about the junk food please! Grin

Babysharkdoodoodood · 19/10/2020 13:25

I had the op last week, so totally lopsided now. Huge E cup boob on one side and flat on the other. Waiting for my drain to tail off for removal this week.

Still isolating and DH cooking. Nice break and I have oramorph so sleeping lots. DS is having lessons online this week and then half term. He goes to Solihull college so I'm glad about that, even though their numbers are less than ours. Really don't understand how the tier system works as we're in a lower tier despite higher numbers.

Work still not confirmed wfh but I've still got 5 weeks off. I've asked for a referral to Occ Health.

I would kill for a maccies right nowGrin

AuntieSocia1 · 19/10/2020 17:50

Sending lots of love @Babysharkdoodoodood sorry it's not a Big Mac though!!

So lockdown in Wales but no specific advice for shielders? I could be wrong as I'm struggling to keep up with everywhere's separate rules!

BeyondsConstantBangingHeadache · 21/10/2020 10:26

Baby shark, I'll be honest - it was better than sex!! Grin I bet the doctor would approve one for you as you're recovering, can you get delivery?

Yep lockdown in wales from Friday evening, but the advice for shielding people is basically a load of the same bollocks... www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/what-welsh-government-said-shielding-19128575
wash your hands, wear a mask, go shopping when it's quieter, but carry on working in hospitals/schools/supermarkets if that's what your job is and somehow the miraculous Covid-specific-forcefield will keep you safe

Babysharkdoodoodood · 21/10/2020 20:16

Ugh. So tier 2 now. Apparently no laptops available at work. So where's the one I handed back then?

There are officers and other dispatchers at home. Just my boss being an arse!

OH were useless. Powers to approve wfh have devolved to individual managers.

At leat I have my fit note until mid November and then I can extend it another few weeks.

Lemonlady22 · 21/10/2020 21:25

I was shielded for 5 months, haven't been out much at all since, no shops, no pubs, only to my sons to sit in his garden to see the grandchildren I hadnt seen while shielded. I have severe asthma and a neurological problem. My PIP has been stopped because I'm better?!? Only had a phone call reassessment, apparently I'm fine, and as for shielding they stated 'it was my choice to shield'. Sending them copies of my government letter and my consultants letter made no difference....its 'my choice'. Bloody disgusted by the shitshow called the DWP! If I'm fine why am I taking near on 20 tablets a day and use 4 inhalers and a nebuliser!

Teaistheanswer · 22/10/2020 09:48

@babysharkdoodoodood you've certainly been through a lot! Hope all is going as well as it can for you now Flowers

So, I am now self-isolating due to a positive case in my class bubble. Crossing everything that my social distancing, obsessive hand washing and cleaning have kept me safe. Feeling rather apprehensive all the same.
Great birthday present Hmm

Anewuser · 22/10/2020 18:05

@Teaistheanswer, happy birthday! Fingers crossed you'll keep well. I imagine it's a worry. We had a case in the bubble next to my class last week, already seems too close to home and one of our son's carers went off sick with 'symptoms.

Get well soon @Babysharkdoodoodood, you've hopefully been through the worst now. Hope your work sort out your laptop.

Teaistheanswer · 22/10/2020 18:35

Thank you @anewuser Smile
I know what you mean about too close to home. Was merrily plodding along in the new normal way then wham! Was messaging rest of my team today and we were all awake at 4! Fingers crossed everyone is ok.

BeyondsConstantBangingHeadache · 23/10/2020 10:59

DW had to spend two days in the RGH this week for an emergency appt and US scan, luckily allowed home overnight in between. One positive case in her waiting room each day, and a third person in there coughing their guts up before she left (she wasn't there long enough after they arrived to see if they were moved over to the other side of the red door). So we're on tenterhooks in the Beyond household now, having isolated for fucking months.

My cousin has a confirmed case, he's a young healthy person though and wouldn't have known he had it without the test

Happy birthday tea! 🎉🎉

Egghead68 · 23/10/2020 11:05

Happy birthday @Teaistheanswer!

Get well soon everyone suffering.

Teaistheanswer · 23/10/2020 11:21

Thank you @beyonddreamsofbeyondfourwalls - love the username by the way Smile
Thanks too @egghead68. It was certainly the strangest birthday.
My DD texted this morning, feeling a bit down and wondering if life will ever go back to how it was, she is vulnerable and although she didn't have to shield she remains super careful. I always try to keep positive but i struggled to think of something uplifting to say, it's feeling relentless at the moment.

Cloudburstagain · 27/10/2020 15:00

Hope you recover well @Babysharkdoodoodood

Hope you stay well @Teaistheanswer. I have not had a case in the classes I teach but all my children have been off due to cases in their bubbles.

Not looking forward to the next half-term in school, as an ECV teacher, with cases/deaths rising so much more. It was anxiety raising in September when cases were much lower!
