I hope this unimaginative thread title doesn't put off all the amazing posters from this group!

As we transition into this new phase things could get interesting....

From September school will be mandatory, and no child should be out of school 'unless it has been agreed'.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 02/07/2020 17:08

Talked about hopes and dreams a lot: implying that having a few months off-school would be THE END OF THOSE DREAMS.

THE END I TELL YOU.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 02/07/2020 17:10

@BatSegundo yes, I'm keeping them at home. Unless there's a vaccine, or Trump is right in thinking it'll just disappear. Poof.

What do you think you'll do?

(Nice talking about it in here and not with Tory bots Thanks).

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 02/07/2020 17:11

@OrganTransplant123 so sorry to hear your news Sad. Virtual handhold from me Thanks

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 02/07/2020 17:14

GW claimed it would be 'misleading' to imply schools had any impact on the spread in Leicester.

FuzzyPuffling · 02/07/2020 17:15

My daughter is very keen to get back to school more than one day a week. But then, she is a teacher!

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 02/07/2020 17:24

GW reiterating 'every single child will be back to school in September'.

No, they won't.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 02/07/2020 17:29

'There May be doe children that - due to their underlying conditions - may not be able to return to school' GW.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 02/07/2020 17:30

some children

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 02/07/2020 17:31

We're advising (people from the shielded group) do go back to school in September, unless they are in a high risk area' JH

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 02/07/2020 17:35

'Will Headteachers be penalised.. for authorising absences out of sympathy for concerned parents?'

GW talks about pushing the compulsory education message. Unless there is a 'good and proper medical reason for them not being in attendance'.

The End.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 02/07/2020 17:37

I so, so want my two to go back.

But that means either them putting me at massive risk, or me not being able to go near them. Both would be massively detrimental to their mental health. Unacceptable.

Sorry to fill up the thread, but that briefing was so important to so many of us on here.

rugbymummy · 02/07/2020 17:45

Thank you @MilesJuppIsMyBitch. I could cope with your drip feed. Couldn’t have coped with looking at them. What’s a ‘high risk area’?
Thing is, even if my consultant says no you can’t go and writes a letter, my youngest will be in a bubble of 240. I can’t make him miss school. I couldn’t do that to him.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 02/07/2020 17:52

By high risk area I think they meant places like Leicester now. So they're going to keep an eye on local case levels.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 02/07/2020 17:53

rugbymummy we all have to do what is right for us and our families. It's so, so hard. Thanks

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 02/07/2020 17:57

I got the feeling that they're ramming the GO TO SCHOOL message so hard to prevent the worried well from keeping their kids off.

Although it's hard not to feel sympathy with anyone who's worried atm, given the global pandemic and all.

Anyway, I'm off to make dinner, and to try to think about something else for the rest of the evening Wine

Anewuser · 02/07/2020 18:01

Thank you @MilesJuppIsMyBitch, we should have got you to condense all the previous briefings.

SandysMam · 02/07/2020 18:16

@OrganTransplant123 sorry am just de-lurking...I have severe kidney problems, really recommend you follow Queen of Dialysis on Twitter and watch her Ted Talks on YouTube. I have found her really inspiring and a big comfort on my “kidney journey” hate that term but you know what I mean. She lives really well on dialysis, can’t have a transplant because of her type of condition but ran the London Marathon last year and is so positive.
She follows lots of others in the U.K. kidney community too, makes me feel less alone, might be worth a look Flowers

finished31 · 02/07/2020 18:39

Oh OrganTransplant123 that's just rubbish for you. I know they
always look at renal function and did warn me it could be something concerning down the line.

Sending
Hugs x

Is2020OverYet · 02/07/2020 20:32

@Scarby9 I've had my prescriptions delivered for years, mostly because I'm really rubbish at remembering to order repeats. The chemist I use lets you set up a reminder, then you order online and they deliver. They even leave them in the village shop to collect if you are out when they call.

So I doubt no longer shielding will make any difference to that for your DF. Horrible situation to be in though.

Is2020OverYet · 02/07/2020 20:40

I'm having a bit of a wobble tonight. Our office will reopen in September, and although they are great and HR have reassured me that I can continue to work from home for as long as I want, the idea of the office reopening has really made me anxious. I miss face to face colleagues so much, but I'm petrified of the idea of being in the office.

Took the DC for a walk after work, which made me feel a bit better. They've gone back to school this week and are absolutely loving it, which is really nice to hear. They've had a tough time with me shielding.

outnumberedwoman · 02/07/2020 23:26

Hi everyone. Well I got my letter in today's post. Confirms that from July 6th some restrictions are easing and from July 31st no more shielding. There was also a thanks for all I have done these past few months in staying home to protect myself. It read a bit like well thats the end of that and clear off! And of course staying home was nothing to do with protecting the nhs so it wasnt overloaded! The wording just perpetuates the thinking that the whole country locked down for us and we owe them a debt of gratitude! Feels a bit depressing to be honest.

Was watching the briefing today but had to turn it off because it wasnt doing my blood pressure any favours. Will wait to see what comes out from NI but I am not hopeful. It is just so very worrying and I am sick of being made to feel like I am over reacting or a hypochondriac for being concerned about the return to school. I don't have any answers but I just cannot shake the feeling that it isnt safe and the plans to get all kids back in autumn have completely overlooked health to get the kids back in so parents can get back to work.

brainstories568 · 03/07/2020 12:15

To whomever was talking about prescription delivery.... Boots do free delivery regardless of who you are, have you tried them? Mine have always come in a box small enough to fit through the letter box if we aren't in. You just sign up online, get them to request your script and then you can either collect it from your local Boots (which is a what I usually do) or they'll deliver it for free, but I've only been doing that since March. You can also set reminders so it emails you in X months time, then you just tick the "yes all still the same" box and it requests it again.

I'm sorry that a lot of you are having a hard time trying to work out what's best for your family - Boris and Matt clearly don't know. I guess our saving grace is that I'm on the sheilding list due to chemo which has an end date, so I assume after that point I'll go back to being a "normal" 30 something year old with a baby/toddler and brain tumour.

OrganTransplant123 · 03/07/2020 18:45

Thanks @SandysMam I’ll look her up at some point. I need to wallow for a bit then I’ll pull my socks up! Not sure I’ll be running any marathons though!

Thanks @finished31 it’s not just my immunosuppressants that have upset my kidneys, the original condition I have that ruined my liver is probably equally, if not more, at fault. I don’t want to give you the impression it’s just tacrolimus damage and you to worry unnecessary.

All the threads of people excited about haircuts, pub visits and meals out are alarming. I suppose people want to get back to normality.

Madhairday · 03/07/2020 22:13

Anyone coming out of more extreme shielding ie within the family this weekend - as the letter says we don't need to social distance at home from Monday? I want to hug my kids :) I feel ok with it so going to tomorrow. It feels so strange after being cooped up pretty much in my study for 14 weeks to be part of the family and house again, so lovely! Part of me feels a bit afraid though although I know the infection rate is so low now, but it's just how it's been hammered into us over and over again I guess and going back to 'normal'-ish seems a bit scary. Anyone else in this position?
