Are dyson fans worth the money?!

DH thinks they’re hugely overpriced. But it’s going to be really hot next week and I’m tempted to invest as I struggle to sleep in hot weather. (I keep a fan on all through the year in fact - have a ground floor central London bedroom and can’t keep the window open. My current fan is a bit rubbish and very old.)

Are they worth the money? Anyone here have one? Is there a better brand?

We can see this thread is a few years old so some of the guidance may be out of date, but we’ve recently updated our best tower fan and best desk fan pages with plenty of Mumsnetter-approved recommendations, including advice on whether a Dyson is the right pick for you. We hope it helps.

Yes we have 2. On cold it is the only thing which helps me sleep when hot

No. MIL has one and I found it worse than our £15 old school style free standing one from Tesco.

I got one to help with my hayfever, havent noticed any benefit in that respect but I do find the fan perfectly good. It's not too loud and blows enough air out to cool without making me feel like I am in a gale.

In hindsight not sure I'd have paid £500 for it though.

We have a hot/cold one in our bedroom. It is a fan, not aircon. But I like it in summer as it's quieter than a normal fan.

If I'm struggling with puffy eyes / catching chest I find they are part of the thing that helps in a room. Also works well in my office to keep the temperature at an even level. If you want a straight up blasting fan for the breeze this isn't what I would get.

Depends on your moral point of view of Dyson - I’d never buy any of his products

Fallenbehind · 20/06/2020 17:02

CarrieBlue this is DH’s stance!

I wouldn’t be without my Dyson fan. Most ordinary fans will swirl dust and pollen around the room, but the Dyson is an air purifier, so the filter traps these particles and just throws out clean air. It makes a huge difference if you have hay fever/allergic rhinitis etc. Expensive, yes. But worth it in my opinion.

We’ve got two and I think they’re brilliant.
