Artificial plants - why? Stop

I don't get why anyone would buy an artificial plant yet there are suddenly lots of them (heading for landfill). If you really don't think you can cope with watering a plant, get a cactus or no plant.

'They're a bit Nandos' haha brilliant!

Thanks for permission to LTB. Please send prayers for me dealing with fake grass 😩

I have some lovely fake plants, can't have real as the damned cats eat them Angry

violetscone · 21/06/2020 10:45

Still beats having fake cats Grin

Apart from a few cases (like lady with dementia) I think fake plants just got 'trendy'. I'm reading a lot of interior design magazines at the moment and they seem to be dotting fake greenery around to add 'accents' to a room. So then there's a demand for them and then every shop starts selling them, so more people see them and start buying them...

It will die down eventually.

Do NOT get me started on fake grass (looks out at next door's fake lawn with is dotted with lumps of very visible and very smelly dog poo, which my natural lawn manages to disguise until I get out there with a bag...)

I have consistently failed with plants, plus my house doesn’t get a lot of sunlight so I’ve got some artificial ones in places that don’t get light. I’ve got a real plant in the bedroom window that’s doing well so I might try myself with a couple more real ones soon!

However, that’s not because you told me I should OP Wink

I like fake plants and fake grass. I absolutely hate real plants so no, I won’t be replacing my fake ones.

The “plastic issue” doesn’t bother me.

I love plants but I’m also the plant killer.

If you buy decent ones you honestly can’t tell if you squint when looking at them 🌸🌸🌸

Next door have an artificial lawn. They have a beautiful garden, mainly planted up with low maintainence shrubs and flowers, so can get a garderner in a few times a year for maintainence. They got the lawn put in as he was beginning to get to the frailer end of old age, and the amount of lawn space was too small and fiddly to justify paying a regular gardener every few weeks. It works well for their circumstances and on balance their garden is better for nature than just turfing the lot and losing the planting.

I've got houseplants about 20 years old. OK one is a spider plant that's gone through more lives than a cat. Find a spot they like. My orchid likes the humidity and warmth of the kitchen and regularly flowers. Better to water them when they look a little bit sad than over-watering.
