Why are the unions being so obstructive?

I just don’t get why the unions are dead set against any proposals to open schools?

People are mixing in shops and on public transport; football matches and TV studios are back in action.

Why on earth are we continuing to deny an education to our children?

At least get a concrete plan in place for September, and stop this never-ending delay because “it might not be safe”.

So much for being guided by the science. How many of the teaching union representatives are professional scientists in any discipline?

Yes I agree that many teachers do in fact want PPE.

I work with schools/ teachers and have had regular video calls with them on a daily basis. They are working/ available.

Schools in NI today announced a 1m distance rule from September, and hopefully that will be scrapped by the start of the new term if figures continue as they are- only a few deaths in the past 10 days there.

What age group do you work with? I'm with Reception and I honestly couldn't imagine wearing a mask. So much interaction would be lost and many would be quite scared. I imagine older children would understand more.

Y1. I don't want to wear a mask, but I know many of my colleagues do. I'd quite like to have the choice to though.

I don’t really understand it to be honest.
I’m not in the uk but where I live schools have been back in for weeks, and there has been no increase in cases, in fact we’ve had a decrease. Here schools have split year groups in half and have a rota system with the absent half logging in via google classroom to ‘see’ the lesson. It has worked well, even with lower age groups. Here we are being told that children don’t spread the virus much so it’s lower risk for schools to be back.
