Sick of the bleeding!!!!

I had the implant put in my arm back in January. In early March, i started bleeding, and it hasn't stopped since, not even for one day. Im absolutely fed up!!! Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any advice? I would get it removed and try something else instead but I've already tried most other forms of contraception and didn't like it or it didn't agree with me. Argh I'm so fed up!

If you’ve been bleeding moderately heavily all that time I really think you need to speak to your GP.

HelmutShmacker · 17/06/2020 12:53

They said it may settle down in a few more weeks but not sure I can stand it much longer!

I had this, I was prescribed the pill alongside for 3 months. That stopped the bleeding but it started again afterwards. I decided to have a coil fitted instead but covid put a hold on that. I've just had an appointment through for a coil at the beginning of July and ironically the bleeding has stopped by itself!

I've already tried the coil and it made me bleed unreal amounts, I had it swapped for a copper coil and it made no difference Confused pleased your bleeding has stopped of its own accord though!

DD had the implant in December and has had bleeding on and off since. GP put her on the pill which helped, but the overload of hormones made her feel suicidal so she had to stop taking it. She's giving the implant another couple of months and then, if no improvement, she says she will ask for it to be removed.

I had the mirena fitted in January for heavy periods and mood swings, and have only just stopped bleeding. It was light, but it really pissed me off after 3 months, so I know how you feel. I did, however, stop feeling murderous every month!

Littlegoth · 17/06/2020 13:16

I bled on the implant for 9 months and had to beg them to remove it. Never again.

HelmutShmacker · 17/06/2020 13:17

If the bleeding was light I could maybe put up with it but it's so heavy! I've made a telephone appointment with my GP for tomorrow, I will ask about the pill to see if it helps

DD had this with the implant. They put her on a contraceptive pill as well, and it regulated the bleeding, or stopped it altogether if she didn't take a break.

She was on the implant because she kept forgetting to take her pill, in case you're wondering why she didn't just take the pill!

HelmutShmacker · 17/06/2020 13:25

Do you have the implant too @Holothane?

I had mine taken out about 4 months ago for the same reason. I put up with it for a year as it was put in just after I had ds, so thought it might settle, but it wouldn't and I was exhausted by the time it came out. I was nearly constantly bleeding, it would slow to spotting for a day or so at a time and then come back full force, so you have my sympathies. I have had 2 before this one and they were both amazing - first one no bleeding at all, second one just normal periods. I won't have another.

HelmutShmacker · 17/06/2020 13:42

@TheMostHappy were they happy enough to remove it for you?

Holothane · 17/06/2020 15:28

No mines the minera coil.

Paranoidmarvin · 17/06/2020 16:10

I have been bleeding for over a year. Doctors have tried a few things but nothing works. It has stopped a few times lately but it keeps coming back.
They think I am peri menopausal and this is just a thing my body is doing at the moment. I cannot tell u how sick I am of it.
I have also had two bouts of thrush which has lasted for a month each time.

Fed up would be an understatement

Cosypyjamaface · 17/06/2020 16:14

I had the same issue. Had pretty much non-stop bleeding for a year. I kept thinking well I'll leave it a bit longer in case it settles down. At the one year mark I was so fed up and drained I had it removed.

HelmutShmacker · 17/06/2020 16:18

Was anyone else told that non stop bleeding was a side effect? I was told I may get light spotting but for most women their periods stop completely. I know I sound melodramatic but om sick of being a woman at this point, it's one thing after the other

@HelmutShmacker if you have a local sexual health clinic you may find them a lot more help than your GP surgery for various options

HelmutShmacker · 17/06/2020 19:39

Thanks @veggie

I’m so pleased to find this thread! I had the more a fitted at Christmas due to heavy periods. Bled for weeks and then seemed to be fairly normal for a few months but now I’ve been bleeding constantly for 4 weeks. It was getting me down so much I’ve been referred for a scan. GP won’t remove it at the minute.
I was given the pill but I took 2 and they made me sick so I stopped.
I’d rather go back to heavy periods than have constant bleeding. I’ve been aneamic for nearly 2 years now

TheMostHappy · 17/06/2020 20:45

Yes no questions asked. I said I didn't want to go on the pill as well and the doctor agreed that it would be just as well to take it out.

NoAdventureNoTime · 17/06/2020 20:53

Eurgh I had this too. Non stop bleeding for a year. Asked at the GPS to have it removed, I'm glad I didn't ask for it to be looked into as i'd already decided I just wanted it out. Op go back to the gp asking for it to be taken out, not with a how can I fix this type of question or you'll have more of the same.

lockdowndreamer · 18/06/2020 05:07

OP, I had this with the Mirena coil. Soon after the fitting I started bleeding heavily. I was told to wait like most people here but I had a bad feeling about it as blood was looking too fresh and there was just so much of it, it was absolutely scary.
I refused to listen to my GP to keep waiting and as I had a private insurance at the time I have arranged to see a gynaecologist consultant within a day or so (I was bleeding for about 2 months by that point!). I had a scan same day and it turns out I had polys which together with the Mirena was a disaster. I could see in the scan a constant flow of blood, like the tap was open. I will never forget it. I ended up with a surgery 2 days later to remove the polys and have never gone back to a coil.

Can I ask how sever is your bleeding? Does it look fresh? How are you feeling otherwise? Can you be anemic? By the time I saw the consultant I was severely anemic. That can massively impact your mood and energy levels. I was raging pretty much all the time. Not a way to live.

I would say listen to your instincts. To me it felt wrong to bleed for so long. Even if everything is ok inside, I struggle to understand why would anyone put up with such prolonged periods of bleeding? If this for contraception then the irony is that it works well as who can have sex or be in the mood anyway?

Pixxie7 · 18/06/2020 05:31

It’s a common side effect of all progesterone only contraception.

JosieB68 · 18/06/2020 06:49

I feel your pain OP
I had a similar experience, bled for months, tried the pill alongside the implant. Asked my GP to get it removed early, put up with it for 18 months until finally it was removed. I now use the contraceptive patch and I have experienced occasional spotting between periods but I can live with that.
My advice would be get it removed.
