What would you do if you won £300k

GMB's prize is £300k. I'm planning what I'd do if I won that money. Obviously I'd need to actually enter but I'd pay off my share of the mortgage (or all of it and get 3/4 transferred to me). I will then put some aside for the baby. I'd try and secure a sabbatical for a further six months to a year when my maternity leave finishes and I'd buy a new estate car with a winter pack so I never have to scrape my car windscreen ever again (I work weird hours so would be really helpful and I'm lazy!).

I would buy a cheap investment property so that I could use it to ensure a house deposit for my DC when they are older.

Pay £150k off our mortgage

Use the remainder to replace out conservatory with a proper extension, and use that as a kitchen-diner, while converting the current kitchen to a snug.

Perro · 15/06/2020 08:09

Buy a small house to rent out and finally replace my old car. Go on holiday and buy a few treats with the rest.

earthyfire · 15/06/2020 08:15

It would just about pay off my mortgage but I wouldn't. I'd probably move and put towards another house.

But myself a beautiful little cottage somewhere rural, rent out my current house and not worry about money any more. Sigh.

CountFosco · 15/06/2020 08:53

Mortgage and pension. Although I'd be tempted to spend a bit updating our attic room into a really nice office space for DH and myself.

Lordfrontpaw · 15/06/2020 08:56

Pay off our mortgage. Pay off my sister’s mortgage. Book another sister a stonking holiday (she is terminally ill and going blind). New car for BIL as his just went kaput. Get the place decorated.

I might book myself on the course I’ve been dreaming about for years.

GreyGardens88 · 15/06/2020 08:58

Buy a house (£250k)
Spending spree on some nice new clobber not primark (£3k)
Winter holiday me and DP (2k)
Slap up holiday for next summer taking family (10k)
Premium Bonds/emergency fund (35k)

Wanttobeateacherinscotland · 15/06/2020 08:59

Buy a lovely new house outright!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 15/06/2020 09:03

New car,liposuction,shopping spree,jewellery,holidays

bronzedgodesswannabe · 15/06/2020 09:04

Use £150k to move back into the city we were priced out of
And then buy a flat/small house to rent out

trilbydoll · 15/06/2020 09:08

Max out premium bonds, then I might win £million one day Grin some on the mortgage although it isn't enough to clear it. Not sure about the rest, there's lots we want to do to the house do probably slowly work our way through the list without worrying about saving up for stuff.

NoRoomInBed · 15/06/2020 09:08

For that kind of money I can get a 6 bedroom house here 😊 that would be nice. Maybe a holiday when I can.

anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 15/06/2020 09:46

Move to a bigger and better house on a naice estate which is about £300k here. We'd have about £60k equity from selling ours so I'd pay off the car loan and credit cards then with the remaining £42k I'd furnish and decorate the new house and have a few lovely holidays and maybe put £10k in savings

Crustaceans · 15/06/2020 09:52

I’d pay off the mortgage, replace a bathroom and let DP use the rest to buy some old Porsche (the amount of time he spends thinking about how this is extraordinary).

BellaVida · 15/06/2020 09:59

Do a loft conversion, new flooring throughout the house, landscape the garden and get a summer house. Plan an amazing holiday for when this is all over. Buy myself a new bike. Put the rest in the bank and have a long think how to invest it!

TerrorWig · 15/06/2020 10:03

I could pay off all my personal debts, and my mortgage and have enough left over for a new house.

So that’s what I’d do Grin

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 15/06/2020 10:04
  1. Clear mortgage.
  2. Clear 2 x young relatives' student loans.
  3. Finally rip out stupid unused, unwanted bath to make lovely massive walk in shower.
  4. Rest in savings.
HunterAngel · 15/06/2020 10:05

£300,000 would buy a decent house around here so would definitely go for that! Being mortgage free would help me save for that dream holiday I would otherwise never be able to afford

StealthMama · 15/06/2020 10:06

Pay off the mortgage and get a much less stressful Job on less money.

Travel lots. Before baby is school age.

God I want this so bad!

edwinbear · 15/06/2020 10:07

That would pay off DC x 2 school fees all the way through to 18. I'd pay them up front so I knew they were paid whatever happens.

Zenithbear · 15/06/2020 10:10

It's clear that £300k would be very helpful to most people. Wish the national lottery would read this thread and share out the prizes more. Either no one wins or one person wins £10 million. Shame.

Redcrow · 15/06/2020 10:17

Buy a house (probs 200k incl decorating and furniture etc) live off most of the remainder while I continue to study and put some into each of my girls bank accounts (probs 20k each)

dalrympy · 15/06/2020 10:19

Pay off the mortgage. Possibly buy investment property and let it out.

Might not be quite enough for both...

Ideally pay off best friends debts.

Some sort of holiday when it's all possible again!
