Rishi Sunak on Andrew Marr

I always rated him. Always said he seemed honest (ok uses a few of the government lines!) but didn't white wash the situation.

Then Cummings happened and he came out in defence. Changed my mind!

But just watched him in Andrew Marr show.

He seems to be all over ALL the information - not just his area of expertise.

But what impressed me most is he said how good Witty and Vallance are. How they have countries interests and that if course science and medicine if their first priority.

He then - and this impressed me the most - said that the government are following the science because it's a pandemic but any decisions made are not Whitty and Vallances. They are not responsible . The government make decisions and they solely should be held to account.

Even said he believes what he's doing for economy is right but accepts his choice is a risk. And that if the risk doesn't pay off he it's him accountable.

Said Spads advise. We make decisions.

I really felt he was honest, truthful and also empathetic to the population.

He's restored my faith in him!

Did others get the same impression or did I miss something Wink

Yes I think it's a case of who would be best to lead Tory party if we are going to continue with a Tory government.

And I can certainly think of that whilst not necessarily thinking I'd vote for Tory government. I'm watching Starmer closely as someone usually more to the left.

I actually have spent more time looking at politics since being stuck with Braverman as an MP and having Corbyn and Boris as a choice of PM!

He's just a typical Tory. Married to a billionaires daughter and public school educated. Second gen immigrant and a Brexit voter.
Complied with the disgraceful mandatory tweeting for DC and then celebrated Nando's opening.
What a superstar.

Why did you rate him op?

Be honest.

I like Rishi. Comes across very well, approachable and incredibly well dressed. I'd vote for him.

SouthWestmom · 14/06/2020 18:10

What about his politics?

Oblomov20 · 14/06/2020 18:11

I like him. But his voting record is disgusting. His lack of respect for the disabled makes him 🤮

randomer · 14/06/2020 18:14

@ a kissandsmile, my comment was a dig at the blonde buffoon. The bar is set so very low.

Fuck me. A millionaire is well dressed. So you will vote for him on the basis he wears an expensive suit.

How can you still like him if his voting record sickens you???
SouthWestmom · 14/06/2020 18:44

Well I just don't know. His voting record is pro reducing welfare, pro Brexit, anti trade union, typical Tory. But he looks really cute in a suit. So, on balance, I really hope he is our next PM.

iirc he dodged the question about financial support for people who can’t work due to test, track and isolate.

itsgettingweird · 14/06/2020 19:09

I was honest in my post.

I felt he came across as honest. Not using too much if the party line propaganda language and liked that he said of mistakes are made it government and not the scientists.

But the jury is out on whether he's sincere or just much better at public speaking that his counterparts.

I thought he answered that. It'll remain the same as isolation during the lockdown. SSP from day 1 or company sick pay.

It's shit I'll admit as some industries may mean isolation is more likely.
But reality it shouldn't as it's within 2m for 15 minutes.

In fact as someone who works in a school I'm probably the in biggest risk category for isolation. Along side care staff and hospital staff. But they wear PPE again?

Egghead68 · 14/06/2020 20:37

True he did say there’s SSP but then moved on very quickly.

Oblomov20 · 15/06/2020 07:56

ssd I meant never having heard of him before, when I first saw him on tv he seemed reasonable. But when I did look him up I found him incredibly disappointing.

I still think he presents well and so most people will be fooled by him.

AKissAndASmile · 16/06/2020 18:37

I know @randomer (well, I hoped but with the state of politics these days you could have been being serious, I guess! Grin)

SomewhereEast · 16/06/2020 19:13

I'm solid Labour/Remain, but I do have a little soft spot for Dishy Rishi. He seems vaguely competent & doesn't give off any serial killer vibes, which is good going for a Tory
