It’s WEIRD. Zero social distancing or masks or anything. The whole stadium just gave essential workers a standing ovation. It’s strangely emotional!

Kind of crazy to think this is one of the largest gathering of people at any point around the world right now.

What country are you in?

WhatWouldDominicDo · 14/06/2020 05:29

Where? New Zealand?

Hollyhobbi · 14/06/2020 05:41

Vietnam or New Zealand. Has to be one or the other.

I am very jealous. It’s hard to imagine life ever getting back to that in the UK.

pigeon999 · 14/06/2020 05:44

I would hate that, yuk even without CoVid!

Supermummy6 · 14/06/2020 06:07

Is it not dangerous with no social distancing?

flowerycurtain · 14/06/2020 06:09

Rugby match in New Zealand? My dh wants to emigrate now!!

ElizabethMainwaring · 14/06/2020 06:12

Are you going to give any more information please op?

FenceFuckery · 14/06/2020 06:13

@flowerycurtain has it.

It’s an amazing atmosphere. Everyone is in really high spirits and just having a great time!

Clearly NZ has done a great job of wiping out the virus within its borders which means things should be able to basically return to normal, but I personally would have held off on the really big super spreaders (like nightclubs and mass spectator events) for this year, based on the assumption that NZ will probably soon have to join a "travel bubble" with other countries that have suppressed or nearly suppressed the virus--S Korea, China, Oz, Hong Kong and the like. If that is the case, then the opportunities for the virus to enter NZ again are no longer going to be zero, and a single case could fan out and infect many people quite easily at a mass event with lots of shouting and no masks.. Yet having zero movement in and out of the country until a vaccine is available really isn't feasible, so some kind of travel bubble arrangement like this is likely to be essential quite soon.

devildeepbluesea · 14/06/2020 06:30

I'm jealous. What I wouldn't give to be at a match right now.

SpillTheTeaa · 14/06/2020 06:31

Definitely New Zealand. They pretty much have managed to get rid of coronavirus. Which it was like that here.

SpillTheTeaa · 14/06/2020 06:31

Wish not which

pigeon999 · 14/06/2020 06:32

Cheltenham races was the same with 60,000 two weeks later boom!

I would take the hand sanitiser op, and gloves.

squeekums · 14/06/2020 06:34

I'm so jealous hearing that. It will happen soon in Aus, well that's what I shall tell myself

AFL season started back in Aus this week. My teams game were allowed 2000 fans in the door. The stadium holds 50.000. Was the only game with fans I believe.
BUT damn that 2000 made some noise

longtimecomin · 14/06/2020 06:49

Which country OP??

Endless11 · 14/06/2020 06:49

I am jealous too. Next year, I am guessing, we will be able to do the same here (mass gatherings). I can’t wait for the communal delight when that happens.

Bluesheep8 · 14/06/2020 06:52

She said New Zealand. Personally, by the time that's allowed to happen here, I think I'd be too frightened to go.

whatswithtodaytoday · 14/06/2020 06:56

I think that first mass gathering people go to will be a huge moment - just to look around at all those people close to you and think 'We did it, we got through it'.

Personally I won't be going until there's a vaccine or the virus is all but eliminated, and I'll be such more careful about general hygiene for the rest of my life. But it will be thrilling to be among so many people again (and see live music!)

Endless11 · 14/06/2020 06:59

Yes live music Smile.

mrbob · 14/06/2020 07:09

I thought we might get there pretty soon in South Australia but we won't now that the government has decided to open our borders to Victoria Angry

Muppetry76 · 14/06/2020 07:16

London marathon has 40000 runners, all congregated in Greenwich Park at the start. Odds on it going ahead in October?

pigeon999 · 14/06/2020 07:18

CoVid is still alive and well, I am amazed any country would think this is a good idea! Confused

Newjez · 14/06/2020 07:22

If only the UK had a government like New Zealand.

GeriGeranium · 14/06/2020 07:25

@Muppetry76 - no way the marathon goes ahead. Nothing will be changed by October - except that we’ll be heading into normal flu season which always puts pressure on the nhs. Would be insane to hold it.
