I finally got one! (Well I have it pre-ordered). It’s for DH. I need to decide on a game to get but just wondering if there’s anything else I need to get like an adapter or anything??

Just noticed that cdkeys are doing Nintendo Online (normally £18) for under £13 - www.cdkeys.com/nintendo/switch/nintendo-switch-online-12-month-365-day-membership-switch-cd-key

If you intend to take it around with you, s carry case is a good investment. You might also want a screen protector.

Paper Mario is much loved in this house. Ds4 bought the new Luigi's mansion game when it came out and likes it even more than the original.
Can't recommend Mario Odyssey highly enough. All the Mario games in fact.
We are a Nintendo family, tbh and have been since about 1990. The games are much more family friendly than either Xbox or PlayStation.

Oooh great thread!

Dd current favourite is a game called Cuphead, the artwork in it is fab, 1930s cartoon style. It’s not often I appreciate a computer game!

TheHighestSardine · 14/06/2020 11:37

Cuphead is so beautiful, all hand animated, but the game is too hard for me :(

KimberWozRobbed · 14/06/2020 11:41

Yeah get a screen protector and a decent size sd card.

TheHighestSardine · 14/06/2020 12:17

A carry case and screen protector are worthwhile if it's going to travel, but no need for an SD card until you have too many games to fit (5-10 easily on the base machine, many more if you're using game cards). They're next-day from Amazon and get cheaper the longer you leave it!

If it's going to be used on a TV a lot then a Pro Controller is a very good buy, expensive but much kinder on the hands than the 'take the ears off and put them on the handle' that comes in the box. Do that later though, no need for it straight away.

We recently got splatoon 2, animal crossing and overcooked 2, all really good games

Have bought a switch for me, DS8 and DD5 as a joint Xmas present. I am beyond excited about giving it to them, especially as DS has been saving for one for months and is a bit despondent about how much they cost. It's been a tough year and I've had to say no to a lot of things so I cannot CANNOT wait to see his little face.

Have been reading these threads about which games to get and have suggested animal crossing, snipperklips and Mario Kart to relatives. Also thinking Pokemon Let's Go as DS is a pokemon nerd and Minecraft and a friend suggested Switch 123 (i think that's the name).

After seeing this thread I am definitely getting the online membership too, but do I need family membership for the three of us or would individual do? I've been reading up
And I can't work it out...

If he's mentioned Zelda then get him that, it's widely said to be one of the best games ever made (make sure you get Breath of the Wild, there are other Zelda games).

I was never into games before but got totally sucked into BOTW. Good value too as it takes months to complete all of it.

What games you want will depend on what kind of games/themes you like.

We have a switch (me, dc aged 12 and 8), and the most played games have been:

Mariokart - we all love this, and we’re still competitive over rankings etc

Pokemon lets go - again, we’ve all enjoyed this, and ds in particular (he also has Sword, but dd and I haven’t really played that due to lack of time!)

Animal crossing - another major obsession for ds, and I love it too.

Lego games (we have Harry Potter, City, and Jurassic World) - loads of gameplay in these, so many side tasks and puzzles and bits to collect and go back to complete etc.

Mario party - lots of fun here too, not one I’ve played so much but the dc do, and also with other family when they come to visit

Zelda - these are my favourites, as I’m a Zelda fan from back in the 90’s. I have Breath if the Wild (amazing game) and Links Awakening too which makes me smile as was one I completed with my mum back in the day on a Gameboy original!

Some of the cheaper small games on the eshop can be lots of fun too - Astrobears cost me 89p I think, and has been played loads.

Tetris and Puyo Puyo are worth a nostalgic look, and the 51 Worldwide games is a lot of fun too - I got my uncle hooked on Yahtzee when he was last over!

You need to look at what style of game you want - platform, puzzle, racing, sport, and go from there, taking into account any theme that might be preferred.
