I finally got one! (Well I have it pre-ordered). It’s for DH. I need to decide on a game to get but just wondering if there’s anything else I need to get like an adapter or anything??

Is it the regular or the lite?

Drinkandknowthings · 12/06/2020 16:08

It’s the regular.

No, everything you need is in the box. Let him get used to it and then he can get peripherals himself as it is personal choice. There is a headset which converts it into virtual reality that I am thinking about getting. What games does he like? If you sign up for the Nintendo online it is £3.50 a month and you can play a bunch of retro games which is fun if he is into Starfox etc.

spiderlight · 12/06/2020 17:01

Our DS has one. His favourite games are Splatoon and Super Smash Bros.

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 12/06/2020 17:03

Mario carts
Zelda
Mario odyssey
Splatoon

Are all favourites in our house

Ooopsijustsnarted · 12/06/2020 17:05

They are great fun, we have 3 (cos apparently we can't share) everything comes in the box. Switch online or whatever its called is worth it. I love the retro games.

Drinkandknowthings · 12/06/2020 17:06

He’s mentioned Zelda and some Mario stuff. I might just let him pick himself.

Zelda: breath of the wild is one of the best games ever. I like Yoshi's Wooly World and Yoshi's Crafty World.

Starshollowwannabe · 12/06/2020 17:47

Our favourite is Mario Kart. We also like Mario Party and Just Dance

WarmSausageTea · 12/06/2020 17:57

Can I ask if anyone knows how/if the Switch works with Pokemon Go? I’ve got the Pokémon Go app, but it seems entirely independent. I don’t mind taking a punt on the switch game, but I’d rather not spend the money if it’s not much cop.

Thanks and apologies for the derail.

milienhaus · 12/06/2020 18:08

@WarmSausageTea You can trade pokemon from the app into Pokemon Lets Go Eevee / Pikachu to help complete your Pokédex, and it gives you access to Meltan morevv BBC easily in the app. Lets Go is a good game in its own right (better than Sword and Shield!), but it is just a remake of Pokémon Yellow really so depends how you feel about that!

milienhaus · 12/06/2020 18:08

*more easily

Dk20 · 12/06/2020 18:15

My favourite of the Mario games is Mario party, lots of mini games and you can set up a short quick competition or a longer one.
Dp loves SuperMario bros, ds favourite is super Mario odyssey.
Ds is getting Luigis mansion in the morning which I'm also excited about.
Mario kart wasnt a big hit here, we only played it a handful of times.

WarmSausageTea · 12/06/2020 20:10

Thanks @milienhaus - I’ve only ever played Pokemon Go on my phone, so I don’t even know what Yellow is Blush but I think I have to give Let’s Go a try.

TheHighestSardine · 13/06/2020 10:40

Zelda Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey are two of the most splendid games ever and you cannot go wrong.

If you go for the annual Nintendo Online (£19) and want to use digital download instead of cartridges, there's a slightly cheaper "buy a pair of vouchers" thing that basically gets you your Online back over two £50 games for £42 each, www.nintendo.co.uk/Nintendo-Switch-Family/Nintendo-Switch-Online/Exclusive-offers-for-members-1437882.html

TheHighestSardine · 13/06/2020 10:53

Mario and Zelda are £60 for the download, so the voucher savings are £36, or still £18 after the Online sub.

TheHighestSardine · 13/06/2020 10:56

Plus another £4.20 credit in points for buying the vouchers, it seems. I just bought a pair of vouchers and got Xenoblade and the new Paper Mario that's out next week :)

Dk20 · 13/06/2020 11:01

@thehighestsardine
You know all the tricks Wink can you come back with an update on the paper Mario once you have it please? Ds was looking at it yesterday and I wasnt sure about buying it.

Sandybval · 13/06/2020 11:05

The voucher is coming up as £84.99 on mine, is that the one?

Sandybval · 13/06/2020 11:08

Also yes I have one, I really like it. If you aren't sure which games, you can usually download and play a short demo on the online store. If you get Nintendo online you can also play loads of the old SNES games etc! There's lots of really cheap shorter games too on the store, some are terrible but some are okay.

TheHighestSardine · 13/06/2020 11:11

Should be £84.00 @Sandybval
ec.nintendo.com/GB/en/pretickets/70020000000081

Yes definitely @dk20 - there's a 5 minute trailer up and I am stoked!

Sandybval · 13/06/2020 11:13

Thank you! I have some credit on my account from my birthday, and can't quite decide what second game to get, if the vouchers last 12 months might invest and save some pennies.

Kpo58 · 13/06/2020 11:26

Certain games like Zelda Breath of the wild are worth buying in physical form as they hold their value and can be sold on for a decent price after you have finished with the game.

TheHighestSardine · 13/06/2020 11:32

That's very true. I've resigned myself to the fact that I never do sell games so might as well buy them digital.

The cartridges can be got new for less than the eshop - Zelda@£48 from Amazon is still more expensive than the download but can be resold for £25 to CEX or on ebay etc for £40+

8thArmouredBrigade · 13/06/2020 12:04

I adore my Nintendo Switch and I like to play Zelda Breath of the Wild.
I’ve completed the game once, although it took me about 10 months (I’m not the greatest gamer).
Zelda is a huge variety of lands to explore, quests to complete, puzzles to solve and as you progress your character gets stronger. The game is enthralling and will suck you into its world.
