If so what for, and how did it work out?

My car decided to break down and stop completely in a live exit lane on the M62 ie with cars coming up fast behind me trying to get off the motorway. I jumped out as fast as I could and on to the embankment and called 999. They picked me up off the cameras and sent out a rescue vehicle pretty quick.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 10/06/2020 21:46

Oh and also at work once, locum nurse was an alcoholic and was found, pissed, with vodka in a fruitshoot bottle. She ran off to her car when confronted so we called the police who drove to her house and waited for her.. caught her red handed. She lost her job, lost her licence. She obviously had problems but a drunk pissed nurse is not what you need!

Aragog · 10/06/2020 21:47

I can't remember if we me if Dh who called but we called the police after a break in in the middle of the night a few years back. Police came fairly quickly and the local police cane the next day too to check in and bring us some home security pack they had.

Dh called the time before we'd been broken into (different house) whilst we were out in the middle of the day.

Bluntness100 · 10/06/2020 21:51

Yes, recently because someone broke into the garage.

They didn’t come out,,

Years ago though I was home alone, and my husband was in the forces, my house alarm went off in the middle of the night. I barracaded myself into the bedroom, dialled 999 and said I was a female on my own and my house alarm had just went off.

They were literally there within five mins, it was in Scotland. Literally five mins, the station was just up the road though,

They shouted up to stay in my room when I hung out the Bed room window and they checked for signs of entry,

They then shouted up and told me to come down.

When I did they told me the house was secure and it was probably something triggered the alarm. Then they went and ruined it..

The female officer said to me as I was closing the door,,

”if it goes off again, do the same thing, lock yourself in the bed room and call 999. Because they sometimes set the alarm off, knowing you’ll call us out, then when it goes off the second time, you won’t Call us again , as you’ll think it is another false alarm, and thats when they get in”.

Friggen shit myself and didn’t sleep a wink after that.🤣

Many times but I've filled my life with wild people in the past.
Interesting one was when my housemate took psychotics and went mad smashing up the house and tried to attack me for no reason. Had to call them from the bathroom and climb out the window.
O later returned to find him asleep inside the glass coffee table

dublingirl66 · 10/06/2020 22:11

So many times !!!

First week at working walking. Home and a man was in a house attacking his wife - literally two mins later two cars were on the road by the house !! So impressed

A homeless man burned my dog with a cig - rang the cops got to say they were just amazing - wrote a letter to the station to thank them

Past few years rang a number of times due to DV they have mostly been good but had one femaile victim blame she was a right cow !!

So mostly positive I have to say
Thankfully !!!!!!

Just the once. I was walking home late at night and unfortunately came across a woman who had just been raped and I scared the rapist off. Police arrived very quickly along with police helicopter. They caught him later that night and it turned out he lived just around the corner from me. His capture led to also being charged for anothet rape that happened a year or 2 earlier that they didnt catch anyone for.

DanniArthur · 10/06/2020 22:21

I was walking past a house a few years ago and heard things smashing, shouting and a woman screaming so I called the police and hid in a graveyard opposite the house watching the police arrive about 10 mins later and an ambulance shortly after that. The woman was quite badly hurt and her partner was arrested. I'm glad I called and really hope she was able to leave him after that!

AgeLikeWine · 10/06/2020 22:25

Yes, when my car was stolen from outside my house. Plod could not possibly have been any less interested : ‘Here’s your crime number, call your insurance company’. Some months later, I got a call from CID informing me that the car’s tax disk had been ‘found’. I never heard another word about it.

Funny how they couldn’t possibly care less when your £25K car is stolen, yet if you ever do 36 in a 30 zone, the NIP lands on your doorstep within 48 hours....Hmm.

PurpleFrames · 10/06/2020 22:31

All my experiences have been bad. They treat you like a small child who is wasting their time. I don't doubt it's race-based.

Heartofglass12345 · 10/06/2020 22:32

Lost count of how many times when I was a teenager because my mum and stepdad were fighting. I remember them coming but not sure if it was always me who called them. They arrested him and told my mum to change the locks which she did, then let him back in. A few years later she stabbed him and nearly went to prison, I made her phone the police/ ambulance that night and the police were absolutely awful to her (he had punched her in the face first)
They are still married now!
Not once did they offer to help me (I was around 13 the first time) or inform social services or anything Sad

delilahbucket · 10/06/2020 22:33

So many times I've lost count. Repeatedly through work in retail with shoplifters amongst other things. Most recently two lads riding around on a seatless dirt bike at 3am. Police arrived within minutes and caught them.

Divebar · 10/06/2020 22:37

Several times - the first when I came home from work in the dark and discovered a young guy in my stairs holding my TV. Absolutely crapped my pants about going into my flat but they came really quickly and drove me around the area to try and find him. I also called when a yobby bloke smashed a car window with a for sale sign. He was extremely distinctive looking so I thought it was worth a punt but although they were pretty quick they couldn’t find him. The third occasion was when we were burgled - I’m not sure how fast they were for that but we did get a great deal of the property recovered a couple of months later by a different force - I consider that excellent service.

MidnightHangingTree · 10/06/2020 23:15

I called 101 once. I was driving home from work at 5pm and noticed a car parked on the dual carriageway slip road with its hazards on and no one with it. It was very memorable as it was just after the new numberplates had come out so the car was 2 or 3 days old maximum. When I drove back to work the next morning at 9am the car was still there in exactly the same place, hazards on and no one with it, so I rang 101. I wish I knew why a brand new car was just abandoned at the side of the road like that... I guess it was possibly stolen.

catfeets · 10/06/2020 23:23

Called a few times about my neighbour drink driving and almost running people over - they didn't give a shit.

Called 101 about another neighbour who was high on coke, threatening to kill someone. They told me to ring 999 to report the threat. The bloke who answered was lovely - was too worried about me being alone to let me put the phone down even though it wasn't me in danger. They came and arrested him and I went to bed. Woke up the next morning to a dozen missed calls through the night. It was the police letting me know they got the bloke and they thought he was a complete knob Grin. They also said he wouldn't be coming back to the street but sadly he did, and caused more trouble.

namechangenumber2 · 11/06/2020 00:11

A few time's -

As a teen , I spotted someone walking along with a pen knife (or something similar) being concealed in his hand - he was holding it backwards with the blade towards his wrist. The police came and I gave my details but didn't hear anything else.

A car hit a island and overturned. I called the police and in the meantime the driver/passengers climbed out and legged it! Police again took details but I didn't hear anymore!

Twice called on my Ex . I don't want to go into details but they didn't do much. We were going through court anyway so it was dealt with there

Gingaaarghpussy · 11/06/2020 02:40

Once when I was younger. My neighbour was an ex army knobhead, he believed he was in the right no matter what. He decided to get aggressive over hiw we went into our drive, to the point where he put a post in. He was getting nasty and was scaring me. The police came and spoke to him and he left me alone.
I've threatened to call the police a time or 2 where I live now. My neighbour is a pub, so there are sometimes obnoxious asshats. Most if the time though, the pub calls them and I entertain myself listening to the people trying to justify their actions.

Chimchar · 11/06/2020 08:08

@ParkheadParadise I'm so sorry to read about your daughter. 💔 x

heidbuttsupper · 11/06/2020 08:18

Yes. The morning my husband went missing, he was later found dead

CigarsofthePharoahs · 11/06/2020 08:21

Once.
It was a very busy three lane road junction. A car some way behind us decided to change lanes and caused a crash causing a domino effect up six cars. We were number six so had no real damage but others didn't fare so well.
The person who had caused the accident started behaving a bit erratically which I think was down to shock. They were talking about getting back in their car and heading off which would have been a very bad idea as their car was quite damaged.
I called because everyone else was stood around looking a bit lost, the road was very busy, there wasn't a proper refuge at the side of the road and there was car detritus all over the carriageway. DH didn't think I needed to call as no-one appeared hurt but I felt it was necessary.
I was right. Everyone calmed down when a police car arrived. A motorbike cop directed traffic and the policeman in the car got everybody organised. We were allowed to go very quickly as there was no damage to our car.

PurplePansy05 · 11/06/2020 08:27

This is going to sound so stereotypical, but here we go... I'm in Wales, was travelling just outside Cardiff, on a busy road. There are fields nearby (fenced off). A fence must have got broken and a poor sheep was running on the road, scared for her life. Everyone was braking, slowing down and trying not to hit her. I initially called 101, spoke to a lovely lady who said it's already been reported, the farmer and the police were approaching and that for future reference this is a direct danger to life situation and to report it as an emergency. I think even though it was on a single carriage road, they know that locally it's a busy one. I've learnt something from that.

HeronLanyon · 11/06/2020 08:39

Lots of times -
Historic burglaries - think have been burgled 5 times over the years different houses. One resulted in guilty plea plus lots of tics. (Taken into consideration).
Indecent exposure - police arrived in a minute and took me on drive round as they were concerned the guy was responsible for serious local sexual assaults. Didn’t find him.
Neighbouring office building burglary - police sent helicopter and officers - lads arrested with laptops and computers on the street.
Verbal threats (serious and completely out of the blue) by local man on street. Police arrived in 3 days spoke to him I asked I no charges as Mental illness involved.
Awful road rage incident - I was witness.
Dangerous dog incident - neighbouring garden (I was house sitting) dog in garden charging and growling at me went to court. Dog was Rehomed elsewhere. Owner fined and banned from dog ownership. Had been long history and other neighbours also threatened by dog.
Bad fight in my street - police there within minutes. Victim badly beaten. An arrest. No trial - guess dropped or guilty plea.
Lost wandering 3/4 year old Knew parent must be close and out of their mind but felt vulnerable talking to and trying to contain small child. In the end three of us stayed close and officers arrived within 10 mins. No sign of parent and child too frightened to speak. Awful. No idea what happened.
Non emergency number - for advice about local pathway being blocked off by local business. For help with remote injured seal/washed up dolphin etc - to get local help. Escaped herd of moorland ponies causing mayhem on lanes one awful galey night. I managed to get them into a field before officers arrived.
Good god ! Lockdown has been a bit quieter.

HeronLanyon · 11/06/2020 08:42

heidbuttsupper can’t read that without saying I am so sorry.

heidbuttsupper · 11/06/2020 08:43

Thank you @HeronLanyon

golddustwomen · 11/06/2020 08:46

Twice

Once at age 18 when a group of twats tried to mug me on the bus, spat at me etc - they came out but absolutely nothing was done.

Second time was when we got broken into. They were fantastic - I was inconsolable. They stayed outside our house for 45 mins after.
