My Ds, age 13 has had this appear on his back, it wasn't here at the start of the year, any ideas? I am going to make him a docs appointment. Have also found some milder ones above his knee after looking.

So good to have this page to turn too. My son 15 has these just appeared with these on one shoulder only, it looks like he has been clawed by a lion. I thought they were stretch marks although not in your typical spot and this just confirms boys get them in different places.

Hi, may I know your son condition now? One of my twin (13yo) also have it. I went to 2 different doctors and they said it’s stretch marks, they referred us to go to dermatologist.

I used mama mio oil for stretch marks, pricey but worked.

Hi, sorry for the late reply Mommytwins and Minnyme the paediatrician said it was just stretch marks in the end due to growing so fast, they also said he’s hyper mobile and he was experiencing pain in his joints, so they referred him to physio but we have been waiting for around a year!
The stretch marks are alarming aren’t they! DS won’t let anyone see him without a T-shirt on now because he is so self conscious of them, he developed more on his back and lots around his knees and thighs.

It's stretch marks. My teenage Ds has them terribly, more extensive than your son but not as deep looking. Nothing to worry about ,

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 30/07/2021 17:11

DS had the same when he started training at the gym, bright red and quite alarming looking, but they aren't noticeable at all now even if you look closely.

Tiredofitall21 · 30/07/2021 17:15

Yes, they did worry me! But yes was just stretch marks, he grew rapidly, he’s 6 foot 1 now so I’m hoping all his growing is over with! My bank balance couldn’t cope with any more growing!

MrsDThomas · 30/07/2021 20:07

Wow I’ve never seen that on a back before, and hadn’t realised teens could get them. I have a 13 yr old DS so ill know to check ! He’s growing so much! Thank you

I just got the same looking Marks on my back in around the same area as well. It wasn't there one day and the next they were. How fast can they show up?

Boreed · 30/10/2023 02:57

This seems to have been a while ago, but they are stretch marks, these marks are common in adolescents who grow faster than the skin can handle. This causes what you see, other than surgery, there is no way to fully get rid of these. This is because they are essentially scars, they will eventually turn a whitish color after some time.

It looks like a rash you can get by eating mushrooms that haven't been cooked well enough. It's called shiitake dermatitis.
