Annual leave - what are you doing

Itwasntme1 · 07/06/2020 20:46

I have 36 days of annual to take this year - carried over lots from last year.

I usually take two solid weeks in July, but I haven’t even thought about it yet. No chance of booking a holiday or doing anything fun. But work is exhausting and stressful and I need a break.

What are you all doing about summer holidays and annual leave this year?

I’m taking time off as although we will not be going anywhere, we all need a break from managing homeschooling along with working so it will be nice just to have days having fun, whether, weather permitting outside, or playing games together.

KillerofMen · 07/06/2020 20:51

Yeah, I've booked some leave to prevent me going crazy tbh. It's relentless at the moment.

tumtitum · 07/06/2020 20:51

We are being told to book leave or they will book it for us!

Keepyourginup · 07/06/2020 20:51

Same here - lots of leave to take especially after cancelled Easter holidays. You can now carry 10 days over to next year (and have 2 years to use it). I've provisionally got 2 weeks in August booked ..... hopeful we can go somewhere/do something... otherwise it feels like a waste to me and I will end up cleaning/ironing/house-working!

AwfulSomething · 07/06/2020 20:52

I couldn't care less about a holiday but having time off work is vital, like you my job is exhausting and stressful....every minute away from it is like a holiday! Book your leave

Twospaniels · 07/06/2020 20:52

While we’re in lockdown and WFH I have taken a day off every other week. (I work on 4 days per week so every other week I work 3 days).

The trouble a lot of businesses will have is that when everyone goes back, they will all want to take their annual leave, and not everyone can be off at the same time!

ZoZoBo · 07/06/2020 20:57

I have 2 weeks coming up this month but with my holiday cancelled and nowhere else to go I have deferred one week until August when I will have a staycation somewhere local. I’m also planning to take a day a week over July and August. I’ll still have loads of leave left in September

Itstartedinbarcelona · 07/06/2020 20:58

I have taken quite a bit already in lockdown. It’s lovely just not having to log on and be able to read in the garden and relax as well as catching up on housework.

bluebluezoo · 07/06/2020 20:58

I’m taking a week off and am going to blitz the house, have a proper clear out. Might hire a skip.

It’s an utter tip after god knows how long of 4 of us cooped up.

rookiemere · 07/06/2020 20:59

I took the last week of May off. It was school half term and because of the bank holiday and not working Friday, I could have a whole week for 3 days.

We're in Scotland so I couldn't do a lot, but I told DH I was on holiday and refused to spend the week doing housework. Thankfully the weather was amazing so spent most of the time sunbathing or walking the dog.

We've got two separate weeks off in the summer - one to a UK rental and one - rather optimistically but totally cancellable- to Majorca. If those destinations don't come off, we'll definitely do something with the time. The good news about lockdown is that it doesn't really matter where we go or what the accommodation is like, simply not being home will make it enough of a break !

AnnieCartwright · 07/06/2020 21:00

I'mon annual leave now. Had to cancel our original plans, but we need the time off to just rest.

myself2020 · 07/06/2020 21:02

We have to take at least half of our annual leave until end of july. I’m using mine 1 day per week to take the edge of the childcare/home schooling/fulltime work situation

Hersetta427 · 07/06/2020 21:02

I cancelled mine - had 7 workings days booked over May half term and 4 over Easter. I usually have 3 weeks off in August (in 2 chunks) but no idea if I will need them as I only ever take holiday from work when we are actually going away. So as we haven't gone away, I haven't betaken any leave.

MsInsomniac · 07/06/2020 21:04

I sold 2 weeks back to them. I’d already done a weeks worth of additional hours since lockdown (and that’s only the ones I’ve counted) so I’ve changed leave already taken to toil and sold the leave! It’s only going towards paying off the credit card Though, it won’t be enjoyed ...

ShadowMane · 07/06/2020 21:06

I've got 15 days booked for my dream holiday this summer, USA road trip, ..... like its going to happen....! ffs

MinesaPinot · 07/06/2020 21:07

We had a cruise cancelled in April so took a weeks leave and cancelled a week. We've got a couple of long weekends in July where things have been cancelled but are keeping the booked leave. We're due to go to Greece at the end of August but are waiting to see what is happening. If not we'll keep the time off and hopefully be able to get out or have a few days away in the UK.

We've been told we're still only allowed to carry up to five days over which have to be used up by the end of Match next year.

wendz86 · 07/06/2020 21:09

Our company are making us take 40% by end of June and we aren't allowed to carry any over. I have taken a few days as found working and home schooling stressful.

heymammy · 07/06/2020 21:11

I'm still taking 2 weeks a/l that I have booked in July. It's still the school holidays for the dc so will be nice just to spend relaxed to with them and not having to leave them to their screens whilst I work.

CokeEnStock · 07/06/2020 21:11

We've been told to book 60% of AL before end of June. I have been taking Friday pm off for weeks, whilst working from home, need to take the last week of June off. This is this thing that has pissed me off the most about everything, though I appreciate this is selfish and precious.

PinkBuffalo · 07/06/2020 21:12

I cancelled all mine to rebook when things are open again.
I ,live by my Own if I take leave now that would be a long time for me to not talk to anyone.
To get honest I am problematic taking Leave anyway. I like all my days to stay the same and taking leave disrupts that greatly and can upset me.
But when things get better I desperately need my haircut (I have very short hair and it has become a nightmare!) and also my gym will hopefully reopen at some Point and that will be a real stressful, situation for me because I am now not used to going to gym. So a few days off where I can possibly ease myself back into The daytime classes seeing my coaches again and maybe investing in some PT might be good.
I am autistic, it is really hard and I am the only one they have to tell off for not taking leave normally but this has just made it all worse as I desperately still need the routine of going to work After everything else stopped at the moment so nothing has been mentioned of me taking leave (much to my relief!)

hayfeverhellish · 07/06/2020 21:17

Taking odd days and have 2 weeks in the summer and another in the autumn. Doesn't matter that nothing is open etc as leave has to be taken regardless, we can't have everyone off next spring and we have rules about that on normal years let alone this one!

whichteaareyou · 07/06/2020 21:20

I work in the NHS and we have been told repeatedly we have to take our AL and not leave it all until lockdowns over because it won't be granted.

ListenLinda · 07/06/2020 21:21

Just had a week of annual leave this past week. No plans. Kids were going to nursery, DH still at work, been bliss to get the house properly deep cleaned, tidy the garden and enjoy a couple of hours outside without having to stop the baby trying to go back inside.

I needed a week of just not logging on. Looking forward to ‘going back’ tomorrow though!

Ghostlyglow · 07/06/2020 21:22

I had a week booked in May which I cancelled. The next week I have booked is in July and I'm going to take it. I'd planned a few days in London, and in the very outside chance that lockdown has eased and I can travel there by train, then I will go. I will probably be staying at home though, I guess, just not working.

Nacreous · 07/06/2020 21:22

I can't usually take leave March-May anyway, but I was supposed to be on leave this week coming and that's cancelled.

I have two weeks booked at the start of July though and am clawing my way through to then.

I don't mind not going anywhere, just want to be at home and not trying to cope at work.
