I'm in so much pain! I can't exercise, it's painful to even walk at the moment. I have socks, splints, insoles, I'm doing stretches and nothing is shifting it.
Soery, but of a pity post, but fed up Sad

You totally have my sympathy.
I've had it for years on and off.
It all started after a night volunteering at the Moonwalk when I stood on cobblestones for hours!
I'm relatively pain free at the moment.
I went to a physio and she gave me a series of exercises - the best of which was to put my bent up toes against a wall. I also roll with a spiky thing that I freeze, scrunch a towel with my toes and wear 'sensible' shoes - just bought some Ecco walking sandals with a formed footbed.
I found that I also had to wear trainers for karate whereas previously I'd practise bare foot. I do Irish dance as well and the shoes are useless but if I stretch my feet while waiting for my turn to dance I'm OK.
Prior to PF my life was made miserable by shin splints - my physio says my calk muscles are insanely tight and my balance, strangely, is shit which means I grip the floor with my toes even when wearing shoes.

Thorilicious · 06/06/2020 22:26

Thank you for all the ideas and support. I find the heel bounces give me a bit of relief, as does the spiky laundry ball I use.

It was the squidgy memory foam Skechers I was told to avoid, Go Walk. Others might be OK.

PF is miserable, I sympathise. I tried a steroid injection but it didn't work and was agonisingly painful too. What did work was custom made orthotic insoles from a physiotherapist who specialises in foot problems. Expensive but well worth it.

ConcentricCircles · 06/06/2020 22:45

OP - Do you experience sharp pains in your feet when you first get up in the morning?

If so, When you first get up out of bed , don't just suddenly leap out and onto your feet. Sit on the edge of the bed and gently stand, allowing your full body weight to slowly transfer from the bed to your feet.

Over night, your feet would be relaxed and healing processes would be happening. If you suddenly jump onto them in the morning, you can undo the work your body has been undertaking.

Proudboomer · 06/06/2020 23:02

I have PF and have switched to only wearing orthopaedic shoes and trainers. My brand of choice is vionics and they have been a life saver.
I did try Skechers for a while but found the different shoes pretty hit and miss.
Another thing I have found is a hard massage to my calf muscle really helps. I dig my fingers right into the muscle and have even used a rolling pin to roll the muscle.
My PF is pretty bad after breaking my ankle but both of the above do help.

Larkspurandhollyhocks · 06/06/2020 23:20

Means you learn to run like The Terminator as well. I was so fast compared to previously, it was alarming.

Yes, PF is the bane of my life just now. I've had it mildly for a couple of years, but it's got far worse since lockdown. Trying massage and stretches, which help a bit for a wee while, but I will persevere. I've also bought a pair of clogs. I've only had them a couple of days, but I think the small heel is helping. My favourite Birkenstocks are too low. Just want to have happy feet again! 👣

Hi OP, This time last year i was unable to walk without extreme pain due to plantar fasciitis. And I mean crying pain. These guys were recommend on another thread last year. I use a cricket ball instead of their expensive roller ball. Does the same thing. I've also found that stretching my legs before bedtime helps. I lie on my back and lift one leg as far as i can, then point and relax for ten reps. Repeat on other side. It's only constant exercise that has kept me mobile for the last year. Hope this is of some use and that you find what works for you.
Whatelsecouldibecalled · 07/06/2020 01:44

You probably have already tried but if not google KT tape for it. There are videos on how to tape on YouTube and you can buy the tape on amazon. Worth a go for a little relief along with sketchers and lot and lots of stretching. I found these things helped me

Paranoidmarvin · 07/06/2020 06:41

Had mine on both feet for four years now. What helps is getting the right shoes. Nothing specific but I found shoes like sketchers with soles that bend help. I bend every shoe I buy in half to see how bendy they are. If they don’t bend I don’t buy them. It’s still here. Went to Tesco today. Hobbled round the first half.

Also. I have just changed jobs. I was at a place that had carpet all the way through. And my feet were better. I’m now somewhere that is mostly hard wood flooring and my feet have got worse.

chromis · 07/06/2020 06:55

All the adive PP have said about the shoes.
Exercise-wise I could still cycle, and do BodyPump at home.

Moondust001 · 07/06/2020 07:10

mine came on after a 5k run early on in lockdown. I've done half's and a full marathon and have been fine, then bam, just out of the blue, it started.

I am going to assume that that means you have not had any medical opinion on this, and are self-diagnosing. Please make sure that you get medical confirmation.

I should know better, but the same thing "suddenly happened" to me, and I self-diagnosed too. Stupidly. It seemed obvious. Only it wasn't - my tibial tendon was badly damaged, this led to a broken tibia... and to cut a long story short, I ended up having to have major surgery on my ankle which is now pinned together and I will never be able to walk properly again. You are probably right and it's "just" plantar - but please make sure.

Thorilicious · 07/06/2020 08:41

@Moondust001 I'm so sorry, that sound horrific.
Yes, I am self diagnosing, but I will make an appointment to check. Thank you for letting me know.

My dsis who had it severely, suggested crutches for a bit. Would that help? I do have a pair thanks to a previous injury from DH...

I saw a podiatrist, she measured me for insoles they have really helped been wearing them for a couple of years now. Skechers are all I wear they need to be supportive lace up not low at the front. Frozen water bottle rolled under the feet can help and exercises. It takes time and lots of it unfortunately. Very painful condition.

Smokeyrobinson · 07/06/2020 10:04

Oh poor you - it’s awful. I had it for a year. Terribly painful. Then one day it went away as suddenly as it came on.

Thorilicious · 07/06/2020 23:08

I have been wearing sturdy sandals all day, and my pf socks. I've been stretching loads and trying to pick up towels from the floor using my feet. It's really helped today, and I'm currently on low pain levels, so thank you all for your advice.

It’s horrible! Try this free workout that’s on YouTube. I found it did make a difference after a few weeks.
