Moving to Wales.

just wondered if any suggestions or advice from anyone.

Looking at North wales, village life.
Must have some land, not a lot but enough for chickens and an area for the odd horse to graze/ van to park.
Hopefully detached stone cottage to renovate.
Would like see/mountain views.

Right I'm struggling with areas, did look at Ruabon but it says Wrexham and that's England.
We like Colwyn Bay but unless I'm mistaken it all seems to be houses with gardens, rather than country cottages.
It's this sort of area though, preferably with a train station in the area.
Bus route, would be good, but I know they aren't reliable.
Looking at up to 200k for 2/3 bedrroms. Or potential for a third/ guest room.
Any suggestions greatfully appreciated.

Oh, forgot to say, Llandudno is the furthest down we could go, due to family visiting.

Near conwy is nice.

Mrskeats · 04/06/2020 15:47

Wrexham is Wales. My ex lives near Ruabon. You have been warned.

donkeyoatey · 04/06/2020 15:49

Wrexham is definitely in Wales, not England.

CottonSock · 04/06/2020 15:51

Inland from rhyl can be nice too, and good value. Just going into rhyl not always nice. E.g dyserth

mencken · 04/06/2020 15:52

Wrexham is in Wales. Parts of it are REALLY rough.

Llandudno always looks nice although you probably don't want to be on the actual coastal bit due to the tourist mayhem in normal summers. I think there was a thread about it on here, although good luck with the crap MN search.

some areas will cause you problems if you are not a Welsh speaker. Check climate too, Snowdon makes for a lot of rain.

MagnoliaJustice · 04/06/2020 15:56

Look in the Conway Valley for village properties or above Prestatyn, Meliden is lovely.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 04/06/2020 16:02

I posted recently about hoping to move to the Llandudno area although more the outskirts/Conwy area than the town itself. It is so beautiful in that area.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 04/06/2020 16:05

Wrecsam (Welsh spelling not typo) is definitely in Wales.

Troels · 04/06/2020 16:17

Look inland from Abergele. Worth a try. Or Further in again, like Blaenau Ffestiniog, rubbish narrow roads to get there but has trains and buses and lots of mountains.
It'll cost a lot, but around us (Conwy Valley) detached cottage with a bit of land for chickens and a pony is about 400k and up, for 3 bedrooms.
Dh and I used to live on 1 acre, chickens etc. But can't afford that here, our limit is 220k so we have a 3 bed semi with a nice garden and fantastic views, walk to train and bus.

Devlesko · 04/06/2020 16:20

Aw, thank you some lovely replies.
i know ideally we need to go and have a look, but not really possible atm.
It's hard to know what areas to search on rightmove, you see a nice houe and have no idea of the area.
We have friends in Colwyn Bay, and it is beautiful when we visit, but i don't drive, not usually a problem as tbh I've never needed it.
Now, we are looking at a change in lifestyle so will need to be near bus/train routes, but obviously I know they aren't going to be brilliantely reliable or running often.
Do the supermarkets deliver to the more rural/county areas.

Ffestiniog.

Wow, of course I remember, it's beautiful. Went on a steam train as a child, it was a huge journey up a mountain iirc, was only very young.

Troels

That's my limit too, better narrow my ideas.
By land though, I don't mean we'll be keeping a horse, just somewhere for one to graze when we have visitors, who will stay perhaps a couple of nights, but have a horse with them, and a wagon. Chickens would only be a few.
I really just meant not the type of area that only has houses with small gardens, more like towns, where obviously a horse couldn't visit. Grin

Good luck. If you don't drive you'll be struggling. Wrecsam is in Wales as is Rhiwabon.

Most areas are nice but AFAIK they are not known for bus and train routes. Look at the train map for Wales.

You probably could get something for your budget.

GypsumFantastic · 04/06/2020 16:59

You’ll struggle find your rural stone cottage with land that’s accessible by public transport.
Wrexham is in Wales.

MikeUniformMike · 04/06/2020 18:03

Quite over budget and no paddock but large plot.

MaidenMotherCrone · 04/06/2020 18:23

For your budget you are going to struggle.

MaidenMotherCrone · 04/06/2020 18:25

Flintshire is cheaper.

If you want to live somewhere rural you need to learn to drive, buses are infrequent

CottonSock · 04/06/2020 18:44

That's lovely.
