Moving to Wales.

just wondered if any suggestions or advice from anyone.

Looking at North wales, village life.
Must have some land, not a lot but enough for chickens and an area for the odd horse to graze/ van to park.
Hopefully detached stone cottage to renovate.
Would like see/mountain views.

Right I'm struggling with areas, did look at Ruabon but it says Wrexham and that's England.
We like Colwyn Bay but unless I'm mistaken it all seems to be houses with gardens, rather than country cottages.
It's this sort of area though, preferably with a train station in the area.
Bus route, would be good, but I know they aren't reliable.
Looking at up to 200k for 2/3 bedrroms. Or potential for a third/ guest room.
Any suggestions greatfully appreciated.

Yes supermarkets deliver rurally. Look by county. Flintshire is cheapest, then Denbighshire then Conwy.

Get a map so you can see where they are. There are many, many villages across the counties.

You will do better if you learn to drive.

Train stations at

Llandudno
Llandudno Junction
Pensarn (limited service)
Rhyl
Prestatyn
Flint
Shotton

I grew up in the colwyn bay area, and now my parents live in fflintshire. I also think you'll need to learn to drive if possible.
The type of home you're after for the budget will not be well connected with public transport I don't think.

TheHarryFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 04/06/2020 18:47

You will struggle without being able to drive in rural Wales. I did it for years. Is there a reason you can’t learn to drive before you move? It really will make all the difference to your quality of life.

Conwy has a lot of more rural properties. You really are going to struggle to get your farmhouse on a bus route though.

MikeUniformMike · 04/06/2020 19:08

I wouldn't recommend it unless you learn to drive even if your OH drives.

Where I live, not in Wales, not rural, all facilities are within walking distance and public transport.

In a village, there won't be a doctor's surgery, dentist, walk-in clinic, library, sports centre, supermarket, corner shop, pub and so on, so you'll need transport to get there.

Llysfaen and Llanddulas are villages near to Colwyn Bay and there is a regular bus service.

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 05/06/2020 19:54

Magnolia
I lived in llysfaen for a few years.
Lovely old stone cottage.
Excellent view of the sea

Devlesko · 05/06/2020 19:57

Ooh, those houses are beautiful, I want to come now.
Llandulas sounds familiar I must have seen signs in colwyn Bay.
The driving isn't a problem honestly, my dh does all the driving anyway, and I'd make sure I wasn't too far away from essential services.
We lived in the country in Norfolk/Suffolk for about 12 years and I was fine, and short journeys i enjoy cycling.

I'd still learn to drive.
I can think of women who didn't learn to drive and were either widowed quite young or their husband became disabled at a relatively young age.

If you can and are prepared to cycle, then that's fine but be aware that country lanes can be dangerous.

Tiggles · 05/06/2020 20:24

Check out Minera, Coedpoeth and bwlchgwyn. Are on bus Route to wrexham. Have stone cottages on outskirts they would have land.

MikeUniformMike · 05/06/2020 20:35

Good luck with the placenames. Grin
I couldn't live in some places because of the mangling the names get.
Coedpoeth and Bwlchgwyn would be on that list, as would Bagillt, Rhuallt, Caergwrle and Caerwys.

Devlesko · 06/06/2020 12:28

I'm having fun on rightmove and thank you so much for the advice and information.
I don't drive due to health reason, but can manage a bicycle.
Maybe I'll get an ebike Grin
Some lovely sounding villages, I'll look at the suggested areas now, thanks again Thanks

Just bear in mind regarding cycling unlike East Anglia we have hills. Lots of hills and mountains.

MagnoliaJustice · 06/06/2020 17:37

@Devlesko an electric bike is a good idea, and you'll need a sturdy one to get up the hills - when you're out househunting, call into We Cycle in Llandudno Junction Smile

My mum lives in Gwaenysgor... she uses either Dyserth or Prestatyn for food shopping as there’s nothing in her village.

How about Llanrwst area?... Little bit more Welsh speaking, but friendly. Cheaper too than say Betws up the road due to tourism.

MaidenMotherCrone · 06/06/2020 18:31

@DoorKnobber I'm friends with your Mum's postman. His name is Stan Grin

DoorKnobber · 06/06/2020 19:50

😀 @MaidenMotherCrone... I’ve met him a few times, he’s nice! Just a bloody pain that parcels end up in Rhyl if she’s not in!
