Anyone have Karndean flooring?

Considering it but wanted to hear some opinions from those who have it. Is it hideously expensive and is it hard wearing? Thanks

I have it and I love it. It’s very unforgiving on toys/phones/children’s heads though. It’s so easy to keep clean and very hard wearing. We have it in living room and entrance hall/hallway. One scratch so far from a dragged oak sideboard.

jackparlabane · 31/05/2020 22:04

Very hardwearing, needs to be fitted properly but not necessarily by an authorised (expensive) fitter. If you look on Ebay you can find firms that sell it that are much less expensive (like 1/3 the price)
Ditto Amtico.

TigsytheTiger · 31/05/2020 22:07

I have it in my living room/diner and hallway. Love it, very hard wearing and great with pets. Worth the money in my opinion.

We have it, I love it. Extremely hard wearing, looks like new after five years! We have it running through the hallway into the kitchen dining room and in the downstairs toilet.

Highly recommend.

Cherrysoup · 31/05/2020 22:08

I have the LG version (just happens that a factory was kitted out to produce it and LG took it over). It’s slightly textured.

All I’d say is ask to take home a square to see if it’s the right colour. We originally wanted white ash, which would have made the kitchen look like a beach house. We settled on a warmer wood lookalike. Love it. They screed underneath and the product is very thin, so basically it’s very hard as a pp said.

FenellaMaxwell · 31/05/2020 22:09

We do, it’s brilliant. 3 years in, including a dog and a toddler riding bikes and scooters all over it, and there’s not a mark on it.

Tatum1234 · 31/05/2020 22:12

Yes love it, had it down for over 10 years and it’s still looking great.

oohnicevase · 31/05/2020 22:14

Yes and love it!

Inacountrygarden · 31/05/2020 22:17

Had it in my kitchen for over 10 years. It’s great...very low maintenance and rarely gets mopped Blush

UrbanDoughnut · 31/05/2020 22:17

Ooh sounds very positive

Does it need specialist cleaning? Or can I mop it?

It'd be for a large kitchen diner, study, hallway and downstairs loo

Which my husband thinks will be 4K. No idea where he's pulled that figure from as we've not measured yet or costed it out

How much in general have you paid?

We have it in the kitchen and to be honest I've been a bit disappointed. It's one of the few things we haven't done in the house ourselves and whilst the materials weren't that expensive, the labour was extortionate. Its ok, but I don't think its anything special. I think the Quickstep laminate and vinyl that we put down ourselves in most of the rest of the house looks as good and has lasted at least as well as the Karndean at much lower cost.

Inacountrygarden · 31/05/2020 22:23

I started off thinking I needed a specialist product but have just been using a general floor cleaner on the rare occasion I mop it. Can’t remember how much we paid over 10 years ago but I know it wasn’t cheap, well worth it though.
I ordered it online and got a local chap to fit it.
I’ve also got it in my study.

AnneBullen · 31/05/2020 22:25

We have a long run of from front door through extension to back door. When the light shines on that long run it can look a bit filthy and in retrospect I would have gone with a herringbone pattern in order to break up the expanse a bit. We do have a few scratches but nothing noticeable.

It’s about £100/sq m for supply and fit.

Solongtoshort · 31/05/2020 22:31

It was in our house when we moved in we had it cleaned and resealed when we first moved in and will have it done again when the kitchen gets painted hopefully at the end of the year, not that it needs doing just so it all looks nice. You can buy the cleaning kit from John Lewis l believe , but lm too -lazy- busy to do it myself.

halfmoonbay · 31/05/2020 22:42

I have it, been down around 3 years, still love it. I had 35 square metres supplied and fitted, I think it was around £2000, worth every penny.

corryj · 31/05/2020 22:43

We have Moduleo - similar ( but cheaper, I believe) than Karndean.
We chose it as we preferred the oak colour to the karndene one.
The fitter laid a ply base over whole floor, before glueing the stips of flexible flooring down. We went for a herringbone pattern. It's beautiful! We were £800 for supply and fit for a hallway . Well worth it. Definitely ask for a sample, or if not we had a rep come out with boards made up to actually see it insitu .

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 31/05/2020 23:06

We have it in the hall and kitchen. We are happy with it. You aren't supposed to steam mop it (mopping is OK) but I do and it is holding up fine.

JessicaDay · 31/05/2020 23:16

Moved into a house about a year ago with it fitted throughout the ground floor.

Thought it would be great- easy to mop clean it. Looks good.

Hate it though. Really hard underfoot. Very unforgiving- gives me sore feet if I stand in the kitchen too long for example.

CoronaIsComing · 31/05/2020 23:20

We do, but I can’t give you a review of it as we only moved in 2 days ago! It looks great though!

TARSCOUT · 31/05/2020 23:28

We have it at work and it doesn't look much different from lino. You should use the specialised cleaning fluid only. Eventually you will need to use the stripping fluid on it due to build up of dirt ( yes even with daily mopping). Once you do that for first time you need to do it every year. It does have c20 years longevity but you have to work to maintain it.

TheHighestSardine · 31/05/2020 23:33

Love it. Had the kitchen done seven years ago, looks good as new, crazy hardwearing and easy to clean. We've still got most of the contents of the bottles of Karndean cleaning fluids that the floor came with, which we only use very occasionally for a deep clean. The rest of the year (or three) we just wipe it with a cloth and mild detergent.

It has its downsides: it's softer and warmer than marble, but not by much! We have dropped bowls and glasses on it and sometimes they survive. Given the choice we'd definitely do it again rather than lino.

UrbanDoughnut · 31/05/2020 23:38

I don't think it being so hard would concern me. Currently we have large pale grey tiled flooring and that's pretty unforgiving! Always have to wear slippers with a hard back for example.

I'm picturing a sort of pale ash throughout. Or maybe a warmer cherry wood colour. We have black granite worktops so hopefully either or will look good.

Anyone got any pics of it in situ they can show me? No worries if not!

I think we will end up going for it as the majority of you seem to love it

I hate mine. The product can’t have been laid properly as it has tiny starburst cracks in lots of the tiles which must mean there are small stones or bumps underneath pushing through. The upper coating has been ripped on one tile by a small shard of glass. Yes these tiles can be replaced but you need the same batch, a bit like wallpaper. We didn’t have the same batch and a tile we have replaced has a different sheen on it, very noticeable. Why would you have a completely different shine on one batch of tiles from another? The worst thing is the company itself. They do not respond to any complaints, you have to go through your “expert” fitter and if he doesn’t respond to you then you are f*cked. Terrible company. Terrible product.

Poetryinaction · 31/05/2020 23:50

We have it in our hallway from the previous owners and it's horrible. I am a floor snob and always replace floors first. I really hate lino, vinyl and laminate. Elsewhere we have wood now, and you can really see the difference. We will replace it when we get a chance. It just looks plastic-y and low quality. I'm not a snob about many things, but having looked at 100s of houses, I really think the floor makes a massive difference.

UrbanDoughnut · 01/06/2020 09:52

Oh not sure now I've read the last few messages! Does it look cheap and plastic-y then? I thought it looked the opposite and that's what appealed to me.
