Considering it but wanted to hear some opinions from those who have it. Is it hideously expensive and is it hard wearing? Thanks

We are pleased with ours.

It looks good compared to laminate, plasticky compared to wood.

Think ours was also about £2k for 35sqm. We just mop it. Excuse the pile of DS’s shoes.

Also excuse the fact it’s filthy - was doing the garden last night!

We have Amtico in the kitchen and utility room and Karndean in 2 bedrooms, with a third bedroom about to be fitted with Karndean too. We like it! I can see no difference in quality between the two makes.

Ideally I’d have wood planking except in the kitchen and utility room, but would worry constantly about scratches, particularly in high traffic areas. And there is of course the cost of wood too! The bedrooms don’t really get the wear to become scratched but the kitchen and utility room do. The tiles are imitation slate and when the washing machine is pulled out from under the worktop for cleaning or maintenance, the tiles scratch very noticeably being plain grey. However, they seem to have a self-healing property because in no time the scratches fade.

We don’t clean the floors according to the manufacturer’s instructions, but after 10 years they are still looking good. I think we’ve only ever stripped them back once in that time and we just mop them with diluted Flash. It takes the shine off, but in no time the tiles regain their shine.

I prefer Amtico and Karndean over laminate because I don’t like the feeling of a floating floor and most laminate looks pretty cheap and nasty to me.

I have it all downstairs. If you can go to their showroom in Evesham and get samples (full size).
I got mine fitted by an independent fitter, very reasonable & he bought it direct at trade price.
I had plank throughout and herringbone in the lounge, as they didn’t do the shade I wanted in herringbone the fitter got Karndean to cut it for me, did cost a little more though.
I love it.

We had it installed throughout three rooms and hallway in jan 2018. Still looks great, but I did make a scratch in the living room when I dragged out the sofa. It is possible to get those two affected planks removed and replaced, but we haven't bothered yet.

I think it was £40-45m2 installed from the Van Gogh range through a local approved fitter.

We have it at work and it doesn't look much different from lino. You should use the specialised cleaning fluid only. Eventually you will need to use the stripping fluid on it due to build up of dirt ( yes even with daily mopping). Once you do that for first time you need to do it every year. It does have c20 years longevity but you have to work to maintain it.

^^ not my experience at all! Had mine for seven years and I mop it once a week with soapy water. Totally does the trick. Mine looks good as new.

It was quite expensive at the time, but fortunately I had a redundancy payment to spend on it.

So glad I’m not a ‘floor snob’! 😂

We had amtico fitted late last year throughout downstairs following an extension and new kitchen. It looks lovely and seems hard-wearing.

It's not good doing pilates on it at the moment but it's really easy to keep clean.

Photo attached of new garden room extension and kitchen with amtico flooring (excuse cat litter tray!)

Looked at Karndean but opted for modules as preferred their finishes. We went for Montreal oak for our open plan city centre apartment and it looks fabulous. We used the blue underlay on existing screed floor with no problems. Very happy with result.

Can I jump on and ask how it is in bedrooms? Would you recommend? I've only ever had carpets upstairs

Grantanow · 06/03/2022 15:39

We have in our large kitchen and like it. No cleaning problems. We mop it. It needs to be laid on a flat floor so we had a floor levelling compound applied first.

Jemimapuddleduk · 06/03/2022 15:51

We have it downstairs and in our bedroom and love it. As mentioned up thread, not great if a child falls on it- my 7 year old needed stitches to his forehead, but was just bad luck and no different to having tiles etc. I use rubber brush or vac (on the hard wood setting) to pick up dust and hair. Then use mop or the spray and mop thingy. You can’t use steamers!

Jemimapuddleduk · 06/03/2022 15:52

We really like it in our bedroom. Will try and add a pic.
