I couldn't be more BORED with losing weight.

Seriously, I'm so over it now.

Started back in February with a quite depressing 63lbs to lose. Yep, 63 bloody lbs.

On the plus side, I've managed to lose 33 of those lbs. but I've still got 30 to go. And I'm just bored of it all now.

I'm attempting a spot of visualisation so I've filled a jar with 30 glass pebbles and I'll transfer them one by one into another jar as I lose them. If I lose them. Motivation is a bit low today when I think about how far I still have to go

For the record, I eat about 1400 calories a day and walk 15,000 steps a day. The old adage of 'way less and move more' actually works - just wish it didn't take so long

Any other tips for motivating myself?

Well done op! Thats a brilliant lose in that time! I've lost about 50lbs with 20lbs still to go and I totally get where your coming from its so boring at times.

Ignore the banana I also go the pebble in a jar thing and it's absolutely not about rewarding yourself like a child it's as you explained a visual on your weight loss.

You've come to far don't give up now!!

IKEA888 · 31/05/2020 20:23

well.done!
what about changing it completely for a week.
no carbs... eat as much protein and fruit and veg as you like.
Then back to calorie counting

Frustratedandworried · 31/05/2020 20:35

You are doing amazing! Grin I'm on a 60lb weight loss journey but only a few weeks in so I'm currently only 13.4lb down and so bored! Hope I stay motivated like you

Some amazing ideas here which I'm going to put into practice tomorrow

I detest exercise. Hate all forms of it. Walking is the least hated and I do it with a friend in the morning and my youngest in the afternoon so it's less dull. I do have Peloton though so I may shake things up a bit and do some classes this week.

The only reason I've chosen calorie counting this time round is because you can eat what you fancy. I do keep it healthy but there's room for a treat if need be. I've never felt deprived i don't think - and my severe sugar cravings went after the first three weeks.

I had two shocks that prompted me actually sticking to it. One was going away with my husband at Christmas .. we went to Sweden and walked a lot. I had to get a fucking knee support as it hurt so much, I just really struggled but hid it as best I could as I just didn't want to ruin our weekend by basically saying ' I'm so fat I cannot cope with all this walking'

And I had some blood tests. They came back with some abnormal results and for the first time I saw, in black and white, the invisible damage I was doing to myself. I had high cholesterol and was pre diabetic. I couldn't believe I'd been so stupid

So I started on February and I repeated those blood tests last month. And I've reversed both the diabetes and cholesterol with a loss of what was, at that point, about 26lbs.

So this keeps me going. Doesn't stop me sitting there in the evening though and thinking about having a third Solero of the day. Food addiction is so hard to break.

Thanks for some great tips though, I'll be doing them all

@frustratedandworried that's a really good start. Just think, you'll be job done by the end of the year quite comfortably. And this year will pass whether you diet or not. So keep going!

Dozer · 31/05/2020 20:50

You’re doing great!

Is it really boredom, or more wanting to eat more? Can relate to the latter!

I wrote down my reasons for eating well and exercising more.
If you have time) to cook trying new styles/cuisines.
Plan small, non food “treats”.

UrbanDoughnut · 31/05/2020 20:52

@toastypate you've done brilliantly. And you're right - mustn't give up now. It's just hard when basically, you're still quite overweight. The last 30lbs doesn't make me slim , it makes me a normal weight. I could probably tack on another stone to lose and still keep going after that.

OP posts:
Dozer · 31/05/2020 20:54

Missed your last post! Fantastic that you improved your blood test results so quickly.

If boredom is an issue with walking, podcasts or audio books can be great - have you heard about the idea of “bundling” something you like with something good for you but less enioyable to you?

Do you like anything online like yoga, pilates? I enjoy those for a change.

There are some good short podcasts on binge eating.

UrbanDoughnut · 31/05/2020 20:54

Interesting to see a few people mention 'having a day off'

I'm trying not to think in those terms but maybe I should? I'm trying to think to myself that 'we just eat food. There is no having to 'come off' something or have a 'treat.' If I fancy a piece of cake, just have it and count it in.

I do avoid what I know are my trigger foods though. Cake is one. I never want one slice. I want the whole thing! So right now it's best to avoid that

UrbanDoughnut · 31/05/2020 20:56

@dozer I listen to music if I walk alone but I actually think the audiobook would be a great idea. I've ever given them a chance before because I always wondered what people actually do when listening to them... just sit and stare into space?! Grin But yes, I could walk and listen

OP posts:
Toastypate · 31/05/2020 21:16

@UrbanDoughnut I don't allow myself a day off either. I did at the beginning and once I had a taste of the old way of eating I struggled to get back to it.
My 20lb I still need to lose takes me to a BMI of 24.9 so would officially be normal or of healthy weight but I know I won't be slim. I still would have another 30-40lb to be slim, but since I've lost 50lb already I will get to normal and hopefully be happy for a while before gradually losing more

Bluewavescrashing · 31/05/2020 21:37

This isn't the healthiest idea but for a one off you could have a huge slice of cake or doughnut or whatever treat you really want, instead of lunch then have your usual dinner. Then you've satisfied that craving but haven't gone over your calories.

Theyweretheworstoftimes · 31/05/2020 21:39

What about some non food related treats? Bubble bath? Face mask, nail polish.

Weight loss is deathly boring but you are doing an incredible job.

What about taking a photo of you now and comparing it to a before photo?

Good luck you are smashing it

TheTiaraManager · 02/06/2020 19:11

Could you decide on a treat for the end? Perhaps a holiday or a piece of jewellery?

UrbanDoughnut · 02/06/2020 20:30

Thank you for the ideas and tips. Really helpful.

Ah, I'm a person of excess anyway (hence why I managed to gorge myself to over 15 stone!) so I'm already spending the equivalent of my mortgage each month on nice M & S food along with every treat known to man.

Instead I've decided to dig a bit deeper and grit my teeth and just keep going. I'm cutting back a little this week - my calories were creeping up just a touch - so this week I'm ...

Reducing my steps from 15k to 10k

Reducing my calories from 1400/1500 to 1200

Upping my water. I like grabbing a couple of cans of Coke Zero a day usually so I'm swapping that out for chilled water with slices of orange, lemon and lime in it.

3 quite small things I know but I've found over the past three months that the smallest tweaks can make a difference on the scales

I'd like to be 10 stone something (don't care what right now) by October - I'm sure I can do this!

OP posts:
Dozer · 03/06/2020 13:13

Diet soft drinks are v bad news IME, have cut right back on them during lockdown.

OrangeGinLemonFanta · 04/06/2020 11:30

Why are you reducing your steps?

UrbanDoughnut · 04/06/2020 13:46

@OrangeGinLemonFanta why not? Doing different things from time to time for short periods shakes things up

I'm down another 2.5lbs this week so I'll take that

OP posts:
MadMadMad · 04/06/2020 14:29

I am totally with you I have lost 40lbs since the beginning of January and still have another 28-30 to go and I am absolutely fed up. I am using MFP and a fitbit (for steps) but unfortunately I love all the things that are most unhealthy and don't especially like most healthy foods. I have also reached a plateau at the moment so will perhaps take some of your suggestions.
I appreciate that some people prefer to love the body they've got but for me I hate the way I look when heavier (the Christmas photos are awful) and I know I am not as healthy as I should be with a lot of aches and pains being caused by my weight. So for me weight loss, boring as it is, is the way to go.

wowfudge · 04/06/2020 16:19

You've done so well OP, as have many others on this thread.

I've lost 20lbs so far this year with about another 10 to go. I think I was in denial about how big I'd got tbh as I looked at my before photo at the weekend and was horrified. I couldn't stand looking at myself when I was bigger. Anyway, taking progress photos is a great way to spur yourself on.

If you've reached a plateau MadMadMad have you checked that you are accurately recording things in MFP? Sometimes some items only have the calories and not the macros, etc against them and it's easy to think something looks like it weighs x amount then you find it's actually quite a bit more.

GabrielleChanel · 04/06/2020 16:20

Hi op
Me too.
It's also really hard in lockdown I think
So well done to you

BlueWave · 04/06/2020 16:27

my god it is boring isn't it

I hate all forms of exercise and I love eating

the key thing for me, which I haven't quite figured out yet, is stopping eating being a treat for me, or the nice thing in my day. I see everyone saying have a day off and eat what you like but that is exactly my entire problem - I LOVE nice food so for me, losing weight has all been about changing my mindset which has been incredibly hard

I started running to lose weight and it worked. I did also find that cutting carbs had a big impact too (not down to the Atkins diet type levels but having carbs at breakfast/lunch and then not at dinner).

but goodness me, it is so tough. I could actually do it as a full time job it occupies so much of my mind not eating what I want and forcing myself to actually get off my arse and exercise. So yeah I feel your pain!

wowfudge · 04/06/2020 16:31

It's actually given me a focus I can control during lockdown. I've rewarded myself with things like skincare stuff and some new clothes. I've got into a whole new routine working from home which means I'm less stressed, well apart from the constant background stress of lockdown, and taking better care of myself. I'm sleeping for longer and mornings are calmer.

amusedbush · 04/06/2020 16:52

I'm bored too!

I've lost three stone and I have another three to go. Logically I know I can't just eat what I want because that's how I ended up at 17 stone in the first place Blush, but dieting is just such a bloody slog.

Blueuggboots · 04/06/2020 17:01

I'm getting recipes from a boot camp I pay £9/month for and there are also workouts most days of you want them. The food is gorgeous, good size portions, varied and most important to me, pretty flexible. I've already lost 4lb this week. I did it for 6 weeks last year (food wise, not workouts!) and lost 1st 2lb.
No calorie counting at all.
There's a Facebook support group that's really friendly too. She does retreats in Bali and Italy each year too if you've got spare money I haven't!
I'm not affiliated in anyway with it or the woman that does it, I've just enjoyed it a lot.
