I think it's probably about time I replaced my falling to bits one.

i have one similar to this. It catches the cheese once you have grated it

lucysmam · 30/05/2020 13:07

That's similar to what I have already. The grater bit of mine has a plastic bit round it though, that's falling off in bits. It had a handle too but that came off years ago Blush.

I have one of these, which is really handy as the tub has a lid so you can grate then store a load of grated cheese in the fridge.

I also have a standard box grater which is getting blunt and in need of replacement.

The IKEA rotary one.

1forAll74 · 30/05/2020 13:25

My cheese grater, is just a flat stand up one, with a handle to hold, and has largish holes for grating. It is shiny stainless steel in new looking condition.I bought it in 1967, just before I was married. It is my little treasure !

QuitMoaning · 30/05/2020 13:30

Do you all have only one?
I have 5. 2 with the little boxes, I flat one, 1 traditional column one and a little whirly one which is useless.
I really only use the box ones but I am clearly a sucker for kitchen gadgets.

curtainsforme · 30/05/2020 13:39

I bought one like the IKEA one linked above but it was £2 in ASDA. I can't believe they are selling for £13.99 Shock

lucysmam · 30/05/2020 16:29

@QuitMoaning I have two - the broken one, and a mouse for parmesan.

I did order a dinky one for garlic ages ago but it never arrived :(

I've been looking at rotary ones but, it's a cheese grater & I sort of convinced myself a couple of quid one would do!

I have two. One with a plastic bowl underneath it to catch my cheese and one traditional stand-up one. I think its essential to have more than one.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 30/05/2020 17:26

A Magimix Blush though we do have a box grater for tiny amounts. I'm just lazy and grate a whole block at a time in the machine

lucysmam · 30/05/2020 18:06

LadyMonicaBaddingham I have a Bosch with a grater attachment. It irritates me having to wash its bits from grating cheese Hmm. I'm not fussed when I make a cake or dough or whatever else though Blush

I have a Microplane grater, and also a wet and dry attachment for my Bamix, which grates anything from breadcrumbs to cheese and chocolate.

Pippapotomus · 30/05/2020 21:56

I buy my cheese ready grated.

Chasingsquirrels · 30/05/2020 21:59

Mine is like this

blancheduboiss · 30/05/2020 22:44

We have a bloody Star Wars lightsaber shaped one thanks to dp! I’ll admit though, I do like quirky kitchen utensils, so I am rather fond of it Grin lowers tone

PersonaNonGarter · 30/05/2020 22:44

Microplane. They are the best.

MollyAtTheFolly · 30/05/2020 22:46

I've got the IKEA tub one.

I keep getting a grater advertised at me on Facebook - it's got Shredder from the 80s Turtles cartoon and I love it! It's something like $50 though Sad

sueelleker · 31/05/2020 10:32

I buy my cheese ready grated.
Me too, and I keep bags of it in the freezer. But if I run out I'll grate a bit off the blocks I buy for my husband's sandwiches.

jomaIone · 31/05/2020 10:42

@suelleker Why would buy blocks and bags of grated? So expensive and covered in a non clumping agent so not as good!

sueelleker · 31/05/2020 14:04

@jomalone I use grated for cooking; just grab a handful. I don't have any problems with it. My husband likes one specific local cheese in his sandwiches (Sussex Charmer)

littlemeitslyn · 31/05/2020 19:03

Just an ordinary one, but if I need a lot I use the processor but it's an arse to clean!

lucysmam · 31/05/2020 21:00

I'm not keen on ready grated cheese. Plus it'd get eaten faster...at least having to grate it as we want it slows down consumption a bit Grin

Maybe I'll just get another box type one for the moment.

I do still fancy a rotary one though...maybe I need two 🤷‍♀️

LottaHogs · 01/06/2020 06:51

A Joseph Joseph one - it’s amazing!

DXBMermaid · 01/06/2020 06:54

The microplane graters are the best. I have the box grater and a few handheld ones. I grate a lot of veg in this house as I have small children so use all of them a lot.

okiedokieme · 01/06/2020 07:03

Ikea, container one with two different sizes plus lid for storage.
