DDs spotty skin

DD (12) started her periods 6 months ago and is increasingly becoming spotty. Mostly her forehead and upper back.
I’m trying to keep her hair off her face. And we wipe her face with wipes.
I don’t want to use anything too harsh, but she has got her period this week and it really seems to flare up at this time.
DH and BIL suffered terribly and BILs kids were the same, id like to get some control of it before she goes back to school.
Can anyone recommend something I can get easily (possibly online!)

Watching with interest! My DS is getting a spotty nose and I don't want to use my skincare products on him! I was going to look in the supermarket this week for some clearasil wipes or something with salicylic acid in

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 29/05/2020 20:42

I use T Zone facewash and that seems to help as I'm otherwise prone to zits.

HattieMid2 · 29/05/2020 20:42

Definitely ditch the wipes as they don't cleanse the skin at all.
Try a gentle face wash to start with, aloe Vera is good or tea tree if her face isn't too dry.
And tea tree body wash for her body.
Hope it clears up soon Smile

Valderma soap is good, antibacterial but gentle. Better than all the spot gels/face washes/etc

I had spots for about thirty years and I don’t think I ne’er found anything that helped!! Things I like now for the odd breakout is the yellow nappy cream you can buy that begins with M. That seems to dirty most things out whilst masking the redness. Diet is important. If she’s eating a lot of refined carbs and sugar that will definitely exacerbate it.

DonLewis · 29/05/2020 21:15

The wipes won't be helping at all.

She needs to not overwash her face, but she does need to keep it clean. We like the teen nip and fab range, especially the salicylic ones.

The very best thing you can do imo is get her into good habits. Hot cloth cleansing, followed by a salicylic cleanser and a gentle moisturiser.

We've tried everything for teen ds. Dermalogica, biore, everything from boots. In the end, he did have a course of lymecycline which helped enormously, especially with his back. But for the face, these are the things that help him the most.

itsnotmyparty · 29/05/2020 21:18

Washing with a fragrance free bar soap. Followed by The Ordinary Glycolic Acid and their moisturiser, rather than a greasy heavy moisturiser. Also have some salicylic acid for times when she is prone to getting them

When I was a teenager with bad skin I used the simple cleanse and toner and then put a thin layer of sudocrem on. I'm not sure this is medically recommended but read it in a mag! Anyway i had lovely skin in no time.

WotnoPasta · 29/05/2020 21:33

We have been using sudacreme. It’s worked when it was the odd spot.

Ive been using Garnier Organics toner (thyme I think) on my son. Its working really well.

timetest · 29/05/2020 21:38

If it’s more than the odd spot and does not respond to over the counter products, go to the GP and push for a dermatologist referral.

AnneOfCleavage · 29/05/2020 21:42

Put a clean pillowcase on every other day - the oils from her hair can irritate the face and exacerbate spots.

We've literally just discovered the Carbon bar soap (£6 from Boots chemist). It's amazing and I'm also using it too. Saw an advert on fb and the reviews were raving about it so I tentatively bought it. We have tried all sorts of washes and lotions and misceller water etc and nothing has worked but this is great. Apparently you can break out a bit before it clears you up but it hasn't happened to us and we've been using it a month.

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/05/2020 21:47

Drs.

She has pus coming out of her skin, if changes to diet worked we could just knock antibiotics on the head and prescribe a veg box from Riverford.

If it’s a family thing you need to get going on it before she gets really bad.

croberts1208 · 29/05/2020 22:01

I'm not sure how you would feel about this due to her age but I found the pill to be the best thing to clear my skin when I was a similar age.

7ofNine · 29/05/2020 22:11

Surely they wouldn't put a 12yo on the pill?

cataline · 29/05/2020 22:15

Our 12 year old had a very spotty nose and forehead. We also try to keep his hair out of his face as much as possible!

He uses a clearasil face wash/ hot cloth cleanser on alternate nights and freederm spot gel nightly and it's made a huge difference.

pippistrelle · 29/05/2020 22:16

Effaclar face wash. I bought some for my daughter after reading many recommendations on here. Does the trick for her.

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/05/2020 22:17

No they’d try a topical antibiotic, then an oral one if that didn’t work.

emsyj37 · 29/05/2020 22:17

Online consultation with a doctor. Burn the wipes!!! Differin gel.

Bagelsandbrie · 29/05/2020 22:19

Definitely no wipes.

Face wash and oil free moisturiser.

My dd is 16 and has struggled with acne for the last few years. She’s been on all sorts of medication and is finally on Roaccutane and that’s the only thing that has made any difference at all to be honest. But yes anything with oil in and wipes make it worse.

Confusedcorona · 29/05/2020 22:21

The face wipes are awful. Get rid now.
Use a good cleanser (look for salicylic acid and glycolic/lactic acid) and remove with wet cotton pads, rather than just water.

She can look for acne serums with salicylic acid.

Exfoliating is really important.

I am a skin care professional, feel free to pm me.

Hotwaterbottlelove · 29/05/2020 22:27

I'd also recommend changing the pillow case every two days and making sure she isn't going to bed with very greasy hair.

WeakandWobbly · 29/05/2020 22:28

Good advice
