Me and my partner have loved the name Hope for years, I have found out I’m pregnant with a little girl. Now it is getting closer I can’t stop myself thinking about what nicknames she may have or what kids may pick on.
What if everyone calls her hopeless or no hope. What are your thoughts ?? HELPPPP X

I think it's a really lovely name and my DN who is 15 is called Hope.

howlatthetrees · 29/05/2020 20:24

My nan is called Hope, if I had a daughter she’d be called Hope after my nan. It’s a beautiful name

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 29/05/2020 20:25

Hope is a lovely name. Nice to see a couple of references to Thirty Something, I keep hoping one of the free tv channels will start streaming it so I can watch it again.

Yes. Very pretty name.

midwestsummer · 29/05/2020 20:28

I think it is a very classic and attractive name.

cheeseismydownfall · 29/05/2020 20:28

Personally I don't like and names that a child has to live up to, or imply something about them (or what their parents would like them to be). I think children should be able to make their name their own, and that is harder when you choose a name that is also a word in your native language.

UnderTheBus · 29/05/2020 20:33

It doesnt invite obvious nicknames. I dont think a child would think of the nickname "hopeless" and it's not really that bad even if they did.

Smellbellina · 29/05/2020 20:34

No I think it’s awful, especially when used ‘for a reason’

AlwaysCheddar · 29/05/2020 20:35

Nope!

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 29/05/2020 20:38

I don't like it personally but I dont like any of those sort of names. Hope, Faith, Charity etc

june2007 · 29/05/2020 20:42

Phoebe and todds baby in Neighbours was called Hope. (Yes I know I am sad.)

LockdownLoppy · 29/05/2020 20:44

I know of one Hope, she is 23 now. She struggled at secondary school and I am aware she was called Hopeless by some. She is a happy and successful adult.

ItchyScratch · 29/05/2020 20:49

If you have a short one syllable surname then no.

Otherwise go for it

icansmellburningleaves · 29/05/2020 20:51

Beautiful and classy name. Good for a child or adult.

Suzysleep · 29/05/2020 20:51

@june2007 I named my baby doll Hope as a child after Pheobe and Todd's baby Blush Lovely name

Pieceofpurplesky · 29/05/2020 20:56

I love the name and have taught a couple of lovely ones.
I also teach a Faith and a Charity ...

TheFallenMadonna · 29/05/2020 21:00

My DD's friend is Hope. No nicknames.

SoftBlocks · 29/05/2020 21:01

No.

weegiemum · 29/05/2020 21:42

I know a little Hope who is about 3. She is the smartest, funniest little thing. Every time I hear "hope" I think of her. It's a fantastic name !

MrsXx4 · 29/05/2020 22:00

My niece is called Hope, she is 13 and fabulous, she has no nicknames. It’s a beautiful name.

ItsReallyOnlyMe · 29/05/2020 22:03

My DD's best friend at school was Hope. No nicknames - but when the teacher was marking if people were there or not and said 'No Hope today ?' that always raised a few giggles !

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 29/05/2020 22:06

My husband suggested Hope for DD- i Hated it, kept thinking if all you have left is Hope times are bad

ViciousJackdaw · 29/05/2020 22:42

Makes me think of Fiz from Coronation Street - her DD is called Hope and has behavioural difficulties. Her father was a murderer too.

SpiderPlantSally · 29/05/2020 22:47

I think it's a lovely name and very pertinent for a baby born this year. Wouldn't be surprised if it rises up the name charts though, for that reason.

Electrical · 29/05/2020 22:55

I don’t like it because of how it sounds, a blunt noise that’s barely even one syllable, it’s more of a noise, than a full word. Plus I’d think ‘hope for what?’
